Immunoglobulin (Ig) G4-related disease is a recently recognized systemic fibroinflammatory condition characterized by a lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate rich in IgG4-positive plasma cells with elevated circulating levels of IgG4. The disease can either be localized to one or two organs, or present as diffuse multi-organ disease. Furthermore, lesions in different organs can present simultaneously or metachronously. In the pulmonary manefestations, lesions associated with IgG4-related disease have been described in the lung parenchyma, airways and pleura, as well as the mediastinum. We report a case of IgG4-related disease presenting as massive pleural effusion and thrombophlebitis.

Recent developments and improvements of multiple technological elements including mass spectrometry (MS) instrument, multi-dimensional chromatographic separation, and software tools processing MS data resulted in benefits of large scale proteomics analysis. However, its throughput is limited by the speed and reproducibility of the protein digestion process. In this study, we demonstrated a new method for rapid proteolytic digestion of proteins using acoustic technology. Tryptic digests of BSA prepared at various conditions by super acoustic for optimization time and intensity were analyzed by LC-MS/MS showed higher sequence coverage in compared with traditional 16 hrs digestion method. The method was applied successfully for complex proteins of a breast cancer cells at 30 min of digestion at intensity 2. This new application reduces time-consuming of sample preparation with better efficiency, even with large amount of proteins, and increases high-throughput process in sample preparation state.

Films consisting of a silicon quantum dot superlattice were fabricated by alternating deposition of silicon rich silicon nitride and $Si_3N_4$ layers using an rf magnetron co-sputtering system. In order to use the silicon quantum dot super lattice structure for third generation multi junction solar cell applications, it is important to control the dot size. Moreover, silicon quantum dots have to be in a regularly spaced array in the dielectric matrix material for in order to allow for effective carrier transport. In this study, therefore, we fabricated silicon quantum dot superlattice films under various conditions and investigated crystallization behavior of the silicon quantum dot super lattice structure. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra showed an increased intensity of the $840\;cm^{-1}$ peak with increasing annealing temperature due to the increase in the number of Si-N bonds. A more conspicuous characteristic of this process is the increased intensity of the $1100\;cm^{-1}$ peak. This peak was attributed to annealing induced reordering in the films that led to increased Si-$N_4$ bonding. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis showed that peak position was shifted to higher bonding energy as silicon 2p bonding energy changed. This transition is related to the formation of silicon quantum dots. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and electron spin resonance (ESR) analysis also confirmed the formation of silicon quantum dots. This study revealed that post annealing at $1100^{\circ}C$ for at least one hour is necessary to precipitate the silicon quantum dots in the $SiN_x$ matrix.
An unusual autumn storm developed rapidly in the western part of the East sea on the early morning of 23 October 2006. This storm produced a record-breaking heavy rain and strong wind in the northern and middle part of the Yeong-dong region; 24-h rainfall of 304 mm over Gangneung and wind speed exceeding 63.7 m $s^{-1}$ over Sokcho. In this study, MTSAT-1R (Multi-fuctional Transport Satellite) water vapor and infrared channel imagery are examined to find out some features which are dynamically associated with the development of the storm. These features may be the precursor signals of the rapidly developing storm and can be employed for very short range forecast and nowcasting of severe storm. The satellite features are summarized: 1) MTSAT-1R Water Vapor imagery exhibited that distinct dark region develops over the Yellow sea at about 12 hours before the occurrence of maximum rainfall about 1100 KST on 23 October 2006. After then, it changes gradually into dry intrusion. This dark region in the water vapor image is closely related with the positive anomaly in 500 hPa Potential Vorticity field. 2) In the Infrared imagery, low stratus (brightness temperature: $0{\sim}5^{\circ}C$) develops from near Bo-Hai bay and Shanfung peninsula and then dissipates partially on the western coast of Korean peninsula. These features are found at 10~12 hours before the maximum rainfall occurrence, which are associated with the cold and warm advection in the lower troposphere. 3) The IR imagery reveals that two convective cloud cells (brightness temperature below $-50^{\circ}C$) merge each other and after merging it grows up rapidly over the western part of East sea at about 5 hours before the maximum rainfall occurrence. These features remind that there must be the upward flow in the upper troposphere and the low-layer convergence over the same region of East sea. The time of maximum growth of the convective cloud agrees well with the time of the maximum rainfall.

The demand for electric motor fuel cells has surged in the automotive industry, leading to a recent increase in the demand for square aluminum cans used as fuel cell battery casings. The air vent located on the bottom of the rectangular battery casing prevents large explosions by intermittent pressure release prior to the accumulation of abnormally high pressures. Conventionally, the square cup battery casing is produced via six-step deep drawing, with the outer shape of the vent being manufactured by welding to the square battery casing. On the other hand, this study directly incorporated the air vent outlet into the bottom surface of the rectangular casing. The product of a coupled finite element analysis technique applying the thickness and contour generated from the square cup multi-step deep drawing formation analysis was used as the forging input shape. The results yielded increased prediction accuracy and the advanced prediction of defects, such as swelling and fracture. Based on the results of the initial analyses, two of the generated forging shapes were determined to be suitable, with the optimal forging shape being determined by molding analysis. The results presented here were validated by mold fabrication and a subsequent comparison of the actual and analytical results.
The present study was performed to study the genetic relationship of productive life with production and type traits of Korean Holsteins at first three lactations. The data for the analysis from 56,054, 28,997, and 11,816 animals of first, second and third parity cows which were born from 2006 to 2011 were collected by Dairy Cattle Improvement Center, National Agricultural Co-operative Federation. Milk, protein and fat yields adjusted for 305 days and average somatic cell score considered as production traits and analyzed type traits were stature, strength, body depth, dairy form, rump angle, rump width, rear leg side view, foot angle, front attachment placement, rear attachment height, rear attachment width, udder cleft, udder depth, front teat placement and front teat length. A multi trait genetic analysis was performed using Wombat program with restricted maximum likelihood animal model composed of fixed effect of birth year, farm and the random effect of animal and random residual effect according to the traits. Heritability estimates of productive life were between 0.06 and 0.13. Genetic and phenotypic correlations between production and productive life traits ranged from 0.35 to 0.04 for milk, 0.16 to 0.05 for protein and 0.18 to 0.02 f 15-0034 (2nd) 150520 or fat. Somatic cells score showed a negative genetic and phenotypic correlation with productive life and also udder type traits, indicating that the selection for higher udder traits will likely to improve resistance to mastitis and persistence in the herd. Among all dairy form type traits, udder characters such as udder cleft showed a significant relationship with productive life. However, a specific change of heritabilities or correlations were not observed with the change of parity. Moreover, further studies are needed to further confirm the significance of the above traits and the effect of parity on above relationships in order to minimize both voluntary and involuntary culling rates while improving herd health and maintaining high yielding dairy cows.
This study was conducted to evaluate effects of dietary multi-carbohydrases (MCS) in a lactating sow diet on productive performance and immune responses of sows and their piglets. A total of 12 sows (218.37 ± 5.5 kg BW; 2 parity) were randomly assigned to 2 dietary treatments: a diet based on corn-soybean meal (CON) and CON with 0.01% MCS. The MCS contained xylanase (2,700 units/g), β-glucanase (700 units/g), and cellulase (800 units/g). Sows were fed the dietary treatments for 28 days (weaning) after farrowing. Blood samples were collected from sows on d 0, 3, and 7 after farrowing and randomly selected 2 nursing piglets in each sow on d 3, 7, and 14 after birth. Measurements were productive performance of sows, frequency of diarrhea of piglets, and immune responses of sows and their piglets. Sows fed MCS had lower (p < 0.05) their body weight change than those fed CON. Piglets from sows fed MCS had higher (p < 0.05) average weight gain and body weight at weaning day and lower (p < 0.10) frequency of diarrhea than those from sows fed CON. Sows fed MCS had lower number of white blood cells (WBC) on d 3 (p < 0.05) and TGF-β1 on d 7 (p < 0.10) during lactation than those fed CON. Similarly, piglets from sows fed MCS had also lower (p < 0.05) number of WBC on d 3 and d 7 and TGF-β1 and C-reactive protein on d 7 during lactation than those from sows fed CON. In addition, piglets from sows fed MCS had higher (p < 0.10) immunoglobulin G and M on d 7 during lactation those from sows fed CON. In conclusion, addition of dietary MCS in the lactating sow diet based on corn and soybean meal improved productive performance of sows and their litters and modulated their immune responses.
Streptomycetes is a group of Gram-positive soil bacteria that growas a branching vegetative mycelium leading to the formation of spores, and display a physiological differenti-ation related to the synthesis of many secondary metabolites including antibiotics. Their complex life cycle and multicellular differentiation require various levels of regulation and types of signal transduction systems including eukaryotic-type serine/threonine protein kinases and prokaryotic-type histidine/aspartic acid protein kinases. Akt kinase that was found in cells is a sorine/threonine kinase controlling signal pathway for multi-tude of important cellular events. The activation or inactivation of Akt kinase in the cell is one of the critical regulatory points to deliver cell proliferation, differentiation, survival or apoptosis signal. To find the regula-tory protein homologous to Akt in Streptomyces, the fluorescien-labeled synthetic peptide (FITC-TRRSR-TESIT) was designed from the consensus sequence of target proteins for Akt kinase. From the difference of the mobility between the nonphosphorylated and phosphorylated synthetic peptides on Agarose gel electro-phoresis, the Akt-phosphorylating activity was monitored. The cell-free extract prepared from Streptomyces griseus IFO 13350 and the Akt homologous protein was purified by ammonium sulfate fractionation and many steps of column chromatographies such as, DEAE-Sepharose, Mono Q, Resource Phenyl-Soporose and Gel permeation column chromatographies. As a result, the protein phosphorylating the fluorescien-labeled Akt substrate was identified and it's molecular weight was estimated as 39 kDa on SDS-PAGE.
In order to improve the antiobesity effect of Kochujang, 1% of sea tangle powder, alginic acid extract, and fucoidan extract were added to Kochujang. Sea tangle powder-added Kochujang decreased leptin secretion by only 12% compared to Kochujang, whereas alginic acid or fucoidan-added Kochujang significantly decreased leptin secretion by more than 60% in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Fucoidan, one of the active components of sea tangle, decreased leptin secretion by 56%, 60%, and 60% compared to the control in the concentrations of $1{\mu}M,\;2.5{\mu}M,\;and\;5{\mu}M$, respectively. To see the effect of fucoidan on TG formation during adipocyte differentiation, 3T3-L1 cells were treated with $1{\mu}M\;and\;5{\mu}M$ concentrations of fucoidan during adipocyte differentiation (from 'day 0' to 'day 6'). Oil red O staining showed fucoidan decreased the amount of TG droplets and $5{\mu}M$ fucoidan potently inhibited TG formation. To see the effect of fucoidan on lipolysis, differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes were treated with fucoidan. The secretion of glycerol, which is used to measure lipolytic activity, was increased by 21%, 37%, and 53% compared to the control in the concentrations of $1{\mu}M,\;2.5{\mu}M,\;and\;5{\mu}M$, respectively. Oil red O staining showed fucoidan decreased TG amount at $1{\mu}M\;and\;5{\mu}M$ concentrations. These results suggest that fucoidan decreases leptin secretion and TG accumulation by inhibition of adipocyte differentiation and induction of lipolysis. Since fucoidan is reported to have various biological activities in addition to an anti-adipogenic effect, it seems valuable to develop fucoidan-added Kochujang as a multi-functional Kochujang.
Objectives : Inchinohryungsan has been used for treatment of hepatobiliary diseases. This study was designed to investigate the effect of Inchinohryungsan pharmacopuncture on hepatocellular carcinoma in rats. Sprague Dawley(SD) rats of the control and experimental groups received intraperitoneal injection of 50 mg/kg DEN, weekly for 12 weeks. Methods : Rats were divided into 5 groups. Normal group was not induced hepatocellular carcinoma and not treated. Control group was induced hepatocellular carcinoma and injected with Inchinohryungsan pharmacopuncture into the root of tail. Experimental groups were induced hepatocellular carcinoma. BL group was injected with Inchinohryungsan pharmacopuncture into the $BL_{18}$ and $LR_{14}$, BG group was injected into the $BL_{19}$ and $GB_{24}$ and CSC group was injected into the $CV_{12}$, $ST_{25}$ and $CV_4$. Thereafter, the changes of the body weight, the liver weight and the weight of liver/100g body weight, WBC, neutrophil, lymphocyte and the activities of AST, ALT, ALP, LDH, AFP and SOD were measured. And gross anatomy, light and electron microscopy were performed. Results : The significant results were as follows, 1. The activities of LDH were significantly decreased in CSC group compared with control group. 2. The activities of AFP were significantly decreased in the BL, BG, CSC groups compared with control group. 3. The activities of SOD were increased in the BL, BG, CSC groups compared with control group and CSC group was significantly increased than normal group. 4. According to the gross anatomical observation, the control and BL, BG, CSC groups showed multi-nodular hepatocellular carcinoma. But the size and numbers of the hepatocellular carcinoma in experimental groups were smaller than control group. 5. The numbers of hepatic p53 positive cells were decreased in the BL, BG groups compared with control group. 6. According to the light and electron microscopical observation, the BL, BG and CSC groups were mildly improved than control group in morphological and histopathological changes. Conclusions : These results suggested that Inchinohryungsan pharmacopuncture may have some effects on hepatocellular carcinoma induced by DEN in rats.
