  • In this paper, numerical analysis of hydrogen recycle system has been conducted in order to enhance the efficiency of automotive fuel cell. Generally, the excess hydrogen is provided in the automotive fuel cell. Since the non-reaction hydrogen reduces automotive fuel cell efficiency, reuse of the non-reaction hydrogen can be helpful to improve the fuel cell performance. In case of PEM FC, the water vapor is provided to hydrogen from the cathode so that the mixture experiences phase change depending on the changes of pressure and temperature. The internal flow of the mixture in the hydrogen recirculation system of fuel cell was investigated for real flow conditions. The variation of performance, properties and mass fractions of mixture, hydrogen and water-vapor were investigated. This study was performed based on 80KW level automotive fuel cell's recycling system.

  • Coordinated multi-point transmission (CoMP) is a candidate technique for next generation cellular communications systems. One of the primary elements discussed in LTE-Advanced technology is CoMP, which can improve cell edge user data rate as well as spectral efficiency due to multiple input multiple output - orthogonal frequency division multiplex (MIMO-OFDM). We consider a system with multiple cells in which base stations coordinate with each other by sharing user channel state information (CSI), which mitigates inter cell interference (ICI), especially for users located at the cell edge. We introduce a new user scheduling method of ICI cancellation and the loss reduction of effective channel gain during the beamforming process, the proposed method improves the system sum rate, when compared to the conventional method by an average of 0.55bps/Hz in different number of total users per cell. It also outperforms the conventional method by approximately 0.38bps/Hz using different SNRs.

  • Heterochromatin protein 1 (HP1) was first described in Drosophila melanogaster as a heterochromatin associated protein with dose-dependent effect on gene silencing. The HP1 family is evolutionarily highly conserved and there are multiple members within the same species. The multi-functionality of HP1 reflects its ability to interact with diverse nuclear proteins, ranging from histones and transcriptional co-repressors to cohesion and DNA replication factors. As its name suggests, HP1 is well-known as a silencing protein found at pericentromeres and telomeres. In contrast to previous views that heterochromatin is transcriptionally inactive; noncoding RNAs transcribed from heterochromatic DNA repeats regulates the assembly and function of heterochromatin ranging from fission yeast to animals. Moreover, more recent progress has shed light on the paradoxical properties of HP1 in the nucleus and has revealed, unexpectedly, its existence in the euchromatin. Therefore, HP1 proteins might participate in both transcription repression in heterochromatin and euchromatin.

  • When the load in a multi-cell orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) system is allowed to excessively increase in face of frequent handover, the cell area becomes smaller than the designed size, and thus continuity of quality of service (QoS) for handover requests cannot be guaranteed. To efficiently support the mobility of a mobile terminal (MT), we should adaptively cope with the resource demand of handover calls. This paper proposes a twofold resource-reservation scheme for OFDMA systems to guarantee continuity of QoS for various mobile multimedia services during MT handover from lightly to heavily loaded cells. Our twofold scheme attempts to guarantee service continuity for handover and to maximize resource allocation efficiency. We performed a simulation to evaluate our scheme in terms of outage probability, handover failure rate, total throughput, and blocking rate.

  • A new neural network architecture for the recognition of patterns from images is proposed, which is partially based on the results of physiological studies. The proposed network is composed of multi-layers and the nerve cells in each layer are connected by spatial filters which approximate receptive fields in optic nerve fields. In the proposed method, patterns recognition for complicated images is carried out using global features as well as local features such as lines and end-points. A new generating method of matched filers representing global features is proposed in this network.

  • Calli obtained from basal disc explants of Allium victorialis var.platyphyllum wre grown in three kinds of nutrient media (MS, BDS, and B5), and the frequencies of mitotic index and the chromosomal aberrations were analysed. The mitotic index varied from 0.55% to 1.01% with respect to culture media and ages. The mitotic irregularities like micro-, bi- and multi-nuclei, chromosome bridge and laggards were noted in each types of calli. The chromosome number variations observed in metaphase stage were identified aneuploid and tetraploid. Structural variations such as dicentric chromosomes, centromere breakage and small chromosomes were observed. Relationship between basal medium and chromosomal variability was not observed in this study. But, in BDS medium, NAA and BA had a more effect on number variation than kinetin.

  • The human chromosomes 2, 7, 12 and 17 show genomic homology around Hox gene clusters, is taken as evidence that these paralogous gene families might have arisen from a ancestral chromosomal segment through genome duplication events. We have examined protein data from vertebrate and invertebrate genomes to analyze the phylogenetic history of multi-gene families with three or more of their representatives linked to human Hox clusters. Topology comparison based upon statistical significance and information of chromosome location for these genes examined have revealed many of linked genes coduplicated with Hox gene clusters. Most linked genes to Hox clusters share the same evolutionary history and are duplicated in concert with each other. We conclude that gene families linked to Hox clusters may be suggestion of ancient genome duplications.

  • A non-thermal micron size plasma needle is applicable for medical treatment because it includes radicals, charged particles, ultraviolet emission, and strong electric fields. The electric fields around the plasma needle device driven by a radio frequency wave are investigated in order to calculate the power delivered to the cell. A commercial multi-physics code, CFD-ACE, was utilized for the calculation of electric fields for the optimization of the needle structure. The electric field and energy absorption profiles are presented with the variation of the device structure and the distance between the needle and tissues. The living tissues effectively absorb the radio frequency power from the plasma needle device with the covered pyrex structure.

  • Multilevel inverters produce a staircase output voltage from DC voltage sources. Requiring great number of semiconductor switches is main disadvantage of multilevel inverters. The multilevel inverters can be divided in two groups: symmetric and asymmetric converters. The asymmetric multilevel inverters provide a large number of output steps without increasing the number of DC voltage sources and components. In this paper, a novel topology for multilevel converters is proposed using cascaded sub-multilevel Cells. This sub-multilevel converters can produce five levels of voltage. Four algorithms for determining the DC voltage sources magnitudes have been presented. Finally, in order to verify the theoretical issues, simulation is presented.

  • The similarity between two groups of displaying methods is demonstrated in two ways, analytically and experimentally. A variety of layouts of the integral photography and display devices based on the point light source model is classified and analyzed in terms of projections and common/separate image planes. In particularly, the transformation matrix is found. Simulation experiments based on the image processing were performed. The layouts, analytical formulas, and experimental results show the similarity of both groups for several layouts.
