  • Time-lapse crosswell seismic data, recorded before and after the cavity filling, showed that the filling increased the velocity at a known cavity zone in an old mine site in Inchon area. The seismic response depicted on the tomogram and in conjunction with the geologic data from drillings imply that the size of the cavity may be either small or filled by debris. In this study, I attempted to evaluate the filling effect by analyzing velocity measured from the time-lapse tomograms. The data acquired by a downhole airgun and 24-channel hydrophone system revealed that there exists measurable amounts of source statics. I presented a methodology to estimate the source statics. The procedure for this method is: 1) examine the source firing-time for each source, and remove the effect of irregular firing time, and 2) estimate the residual statics caused by inaccurate source positioning. This proposed multi-step inversion may reduce high frequency numerical noise and enhance the resolution at the zone of interest. The multi-step inversion with different starting models successfully shows the subtle velocity changes at the small cavity zone. The inversion procedure is: 1) conduct an inversion using regular sized cells, and generate an image of gross velocity structure by applying a 2-D median filter on the resulting tomogram, and 2) construct the starting velocity model by modifying the final velocity model from the first phase. The model was modified so that the zone of interest consists of small-sized grids. The final velocity model developed from the baseline survey was as a starting velocity model on the monitor inversion. Since we expected a velocity change only in the cavity zone, in the monitor inversion, we can significantly reduce the number of model parameters by fixing the model out-side the cavity zone equal to the baseline model.

  • The attachment of inducer in front of main impeller is a powerful method to improve cavitation performance; however, cavitation surge oscillation with low frequency occurs with blade cavity growing to each throat section of blade passage simultaneously. Then, one conceptual method of installing suction axi-asymmetrical plate has been proposed so as to keep every throat passage away from being unstable at once, and the effect on suppression of the oscillation were investigated. In the present study, cavitation behaviors in the inducer is observed with distributing multi-cameras circumferentially, recording simultaneously and reconstructing multi-photos on one plane field as moving a linear cascade. Observed results are utilized for discussion with other measuring results as casing wall pressure distribution. Then the suppression mechanism of oscillation by installing axi-asymmetrical inlet plate will be clarified in more details.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze application methods and structural characteristics of each element of environment-friendly European housing through classification of skin types. The results of the study are following. 1) The skins are classified by three types; single skin with multi layers, double skin with single layer and double skin with multi layers. 2) Most single skins with multi-layer are composed with wooden louvers, sun blinds and insulating windows. There are introduction of atrium and balcony, and variation sectional space composition according to cases. 3) There are two types of double skins; to put cavity between inner skin and outer skin and more extensional spaces such as balconies, corridors and stair halls. Solar walls and mechanical ventilators are often introduced to double skins with multi-layer. 4) The functions of the latest environment-friendly skins are vary from controllers and buffers of indoor environmental elements such as temperature, light, air and sound to equipments to perform essential functions to efficiently operate HVAC systems.

  • We studied emission characteristics of blue fluorescent multi-tandem OLEDs using $Al/MoO_x$ as charge generation layer(CGL). Threshold voltage for 2, 3, 4, and 5 units tandem OLEDs was 8, 11, 14 and 18 V, respectively. The threshold voltage in multi-tandem OLEDs was lower than multiple of 4 V for the single OLED. Maximum current efficiency and maximum quantum efficiency of single OLED were 7.6 cd/A and 5.5%. Maximum current efficiency for 2, 3, 4, and 5 units tandem OLEDs was 22.6, 31.4, 41.2, and 46.6 cd/A, respectively. Maximum quantum efficiency for 2, 3, 4, and 5 units tandem OLEDs was 11.8, 15.8, 21.8, and 25.6%, respectively. The maximum current efficiency and maximum quantum efficiency in multi-tandem OLEDs were higher than multiple of those for the single OLED. The intensity for 508 nm peak was changed and the peak wavelength was red shift by increase of tandem unit in electroluminescent emission spectra. These phenomena can be caused by micro-cavity effect with increasing of organic layer thickness.

  • The optical gain of InGaN/GaN multi quantum well (MQW) resonant-cavity light-emitting diode (RC-LED) with different Indium composition and well width in the multi-quantum well was investigated. The optimized optical gain was obtained by simulating active region InGaN/GaN with some test values of well width and Indium composition. By simulation tool, we could simulate on several cases, and then we got exact well width and Indium composition that makes optical gain maximum due to the short wavelength of 470 nm for blue light emission.

  • The numerical program has been developed for the purpose of the complicate geometries application using CIP method. The non-staggered, non-orthogonal, and unstructured grid system can be also used for the various geometries in the program. For validating CIP solver, the lid-driven cavity flow and solitary wave propagation flow are carried out. Test results show a good agreement with the verified results. The dynamic solver was used for the behavior of moving body. Interface process between the two solvers is introduced. The research was performed on the flow problem around torpedo and log and the flow problem in a tank in order to analyze the three phase flow problem Although the comparison to the verified results was not quantitatively performed, the trend of the results was reasonable.

  • In resin transfer molding, the preform similar to product shape is placed into a mold cavity. Rapid flow front without void formation is important for the composites processing. Multi-layered preform of sandwich is selected. Experiments is carried out using redial flow. An analytical modeling is performed and compared with experimental results. Accurate prediction of flow advance in the preform is of use for reducing the time consumption in the process and enhancing product properties of the final part.

  • The injection molding process has been developed as a very important technology for the automotive and electric industries in recent years. But, in the injection molding products with rib-web structures, partial deformation by thermal volumetric shrinkage called Sink Mark, is occurred. In this study, to make explicitly characteristics of sink mechanism, an experimental approach was taken by using multi T-shaped mold cavity and FEM simulation. As a result, pressure on the packing process and the rib thickness are the most effective on sink mark depth. On the other hand, melt temperature has no effect on sink mark depth fot the same rib thickness.

  • In a high speed train, multi-layered panels for floor, side wall and roof are important sound insulating part. As these multi-layered panels require high bending strength vs. weight, corrugated steels or aluminium honeycomb panel are generally used. However, with some inevitable factors, these panels show lower sound insulation performance than that of the plate with the same weight. Transmission loss(TL) often severely decreases in a particular frequency range because of the decrease of the critical frequency, occurrence of local resonance modes and cavity resonance modes, which are not shown in a plate. In this study, frequency range and cause of the TL drop are investigated on the corrugated and honeycomb panels.
