A Study on Downstream Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation Algorithm in Multi-OLT PON System (다중 OLT를 갖는 PON 시스템에서 하향 동적대역할당 알고리즘에 관한 연구)

  • A multi-OLT PON architecture is proposed to accommodate several types of services or multiple service providers economically in a single PON. The operation protocol and a dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme appropriate for two-OLT structure are proposed. Performance analysis shows that the proposed system is very efficient and can be used in the upcoming higher speed PON system.

  • In this paper, we propose the battery life time extension method in the multi-interface terminal by using the state information in an optical wireless integrated network architecture. When the bottlenecks occurs in the network, the terminal receives data packets via multipath. However, the battery life time is rapidly reduced because the power consumption of the terminal is bigger than single interface. For reducing the power consumption in the multi-interface terminal, the Optical Line Terminal (OLT) confirms whether the bottleneck phenomenon is occurred or not. And the network state information is transmitted to the terminal. The terminal turns one of the interfaces off to reduce the power consumption. In order to estimate the performance, we compare the power consumption between single and dual interfaces.

  • The EPON has been actively studied as one of the access networks for the economic configuration of FTTH. The EPON must support the dynamic bandwidth allocation to the subscribers in order to support the QoS due to its base on Ethernet technology EFM SG, which is actively working for the standardization of EPON, also recently decided to select DBA. Therefore in this paper, we designed a ONU buffer scheduling algorithm(AIWFQ) and a scheme of DBA(Class-based FCFS) for the OLT suitable for embodying MPCP of the EPON. In this paper, we proposed methods that the EPON system can make use of by measuring end to end process delay time and the buffer size in order to implement the algorithm by using the OPNET.

  • In this paper, we propose a new dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) algorithm for multimedia services over Ethernet PONs (passive optical networks). The proposed algorithm is composed of a low-level scheduler in the optical network unit (ONU) and a high-level scheduler in the optical line terminal (OLT). The hierarchical DBA algorithm can provide expansibility and efficient resource allocation in an Ethernet PON system in which the packet scheduler is separated from the queues. In the proposed DBA algorithm, the OLT allocates bandwidth to the ONUs in proportion to the weight associated with their class and queue length, while the ONU preferentially allocates its bandwidth to queues with a static priority order. The proposed algorithm provides an efficient resource utilization by reducing the unused remaining bandwidth caused by the variable length of the packets. We also define the service classes and present control message formats conforming to the multi-point control protocol (MPCP) over an Ethernet PON. In order to evaluate the performance, we designed an Ethernet PON system on the basis of IEEE 802.3ah "Ethernet in the first mile" (EFM) using OPNET and carried out simulations. The results are analyzed in terms of the channel utilization, queuing delay, and ratio of the unused remaining bandwidth.

  • In this paper we propose the hierarchical-based dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm for multi-class services in Ethernet-PON. The proposed algorithm consists of the high level scheduler in OLT and the low level scheduler in ONU. The hierarchical architecture is able to provide scalability and resource efficiency in Ethernet-PON which has the distributed nature of the scheduling domain, with queues and the scheduler located at a large distance from each other. We also propose three dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithms for the low level scheduler: Proportional Allocation algorithm, Maximum Request First Allocation (MRFA) algorithm and High Priority First Allocation (HPFA) algorithm. We implement the Ethernet-PON standardized in the IEEE 802,3ah using OPNET. We also evaluate and analyze the performance for the proposed algorithms in terms of channel utilization, queuing delay and the amount of remainder.

  • In recent, the communication networks of wind power farm are becoming crucial technologies for monitoring and controlling the large-scale offshore wind power farm. In this paper, EPON based communication network architectures are proposed in order to combat the problems of conventional Ethernet based communication network such as delay, data processing overhead and the fairness of data transmission among turbines in offshore wind power farm. The proposed architecture constructs the point to multi-point network by using OLT and ONUs installed in central control center and wind turbines respectively. The EPON based communication network architecture has low cost, high reliability, and fair transmission capability. To evaluate the performance of proposed architectures, the wind power farm based on IEC 61850 is modelled by using OPNET The simulation results are analyzed and compared with conventional Ethernet based communication network in terms of the overhead, delay and fairness of data transmission.

  • This paper proposes a hybrid optical lines composed of single-mode fiber(SMF) and multi-mode fiber(MMF) for gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network(GPON) using a WDM method with a single light source per each channel, and reports the results of transmission performance the proposed lines. The transmission link uses a direct modulated DFB-LD for high speed downstreams at the optical line terminal(OLT) of central office(CO) and a low cost SFP type transceiver for low-speed upstream in optical network unit(ONU). To split or combine the transmission channels, wavelength MUX/DEMUX are used in the optical line section, and MMFs not longer than 1 km are attached to the SMF lines at the ONU side of the WDM-PON links. We have performed the transmission experiment on the downstream of 2.5 Gbit/s, and 1.25 Gbit/s, and the upstream of 1.25 Gbit/s, and 622 Mbit/s which are recommended by ITU-T G.984.2. The transmission margin and feasibility of the proposed links have been tested to be suitable up to 2.5 Gbit/s transmission.
