This experiment evaluates wintering ability to maintain green color of lawn grasses during winter and investigates the effects of top dressing of fertilizer on improving green color during regrowth. Kentucky blue-grass could maintain green color and leaf chlorophyll content better than tall fescue and creeping bentgrass in winter. All three grasses in this experiment have shown the excellent wintering ability. In enhancing the recovery of green color at the early stage of regrowth, the mulching effect with rice straw was highly significant for creeping bentgrass. Green color recovery in grasses during its regrowth was better at the top dressing plots than at the plots without top dressing, but when fertilizer application levels were increased, green color in lawn grass did not significantly change. Although green color in tall fescue, Kentucky bluegrass, and Korean lawngrass could be maintained during summer, the green color of creeping bentgrass is reduced significantly with high temperature. Top dressing after winter and mowing improved leaf chlorophyll content and green color in tail fescue and Kentucky bluegrass significantly. However, Korean lawngrass did not respond significantly with increased levels of fertilizer.
The purpose of this study was to determine the vegetative growth of two cool season turfgrasses during summer season in Korea. Ten respective cultivars of Kentucky bluegrass [Poapratensis L.] and perennial ryegrass [Lolium perenne L.] were exposed to unshaded, 30% and 60% shade for 4odays. First mowing height was 7cm, and then clippings were harvested every ten days at the same height. Shading increased the total length of clippings of all cultivars of two turfgrasses, but fresh and dry weight were significantly decreased. The highest shoot length obtained at 30% shade in Kentucky bluegrass and at 60% shade in perennial ryegrass. 'Rugky', 'Sydsport', 'Wabash' and 'Baron' of Kentucky bluegrass and 'Repel', 'Omega II', 'Ovation', 'Linn', 'Bell' and 'Manhattan' of perennial ryegrass showed relatively high tolerance to shade. Especially, in 'Citation II' perennial ryegrass, fresh and dry weight were increased by 30% shade. The number of tillers generally decreased with increasing shade. In 30% shade, 'Midnight' Kentucky bluegrass and 'Omega II' perennial ryegrass were least reduced and 'Baron' Kentucky bluegrass and 'Pennant' perennial ryegrass were most reduced. The cultivars of lower growth habit in full sunlight showed shade tolerance compared to those of higher growth habit.
Tiller numbers per Unit area were increased as plant density heightened followed by little difference in tiller number in 110 days after transplanting(ll0DAT), this being caused by the immediate increment of tiller since' 90DAT During the growth period, the greatest number of green leaves per unit area was attained in 90DAT of both 160-density and 200-density plots, and in l00DAT of 40-, 80-, and I 20-density plots. Thus, the period to reach the maximum green leaf number with the high plant density was earlier than with the' low plant density. The increment of plant density increased the DM weight of ahoveground part and, with 40-densitytreatment. DNI weight was increased 6.1 times as much up to 110DAT as up to 7ODAT but 2 to 2.9 times with other ehe'nsity treatments. The' rate of increase in stolon length was greatest at the period between 80 and 90DAT when DM weight of stolon showed a large increment. Meanwhile, the average number of stolon was 1.7 at 70DAT but was increased up to 10 at 110DAT probably due to accelerative appeance of Ist stolon branch since 8.0DAT. DM weight of stolon was found to exceeded that of root after 90DAT Thus it was concluded that, when turfs is estahlished from sprig. it may be desirable for first mowing practice to be made at least within l00 days after planting.
As control of plant diseases, insects and weeds were heavily relied on pesticides, residues of pesticides in environment and food supply were recently focused by environmentalists and consumer groups. The reduction of pesticide use was implemented in Sweden, Denmark, Netherland, England, and United States. Therefore, it is very important to discuss environmentally sound systems of weed management including cultural, mechanical, and integrated weed control. Mechanical methods using tillage, cultivation, mulching, burning, mowing, solarization, and UHF are used as one of most effective environmentally sound weed management systems. Cultural practices favoring the crops are excellent weed management measures. Correct seedbed preparation for the soil and cultural system, and use competitive cultivars contribute to weed management. Increasing crop density by higher seeding rate or by narrowing row width and careful attention to optimum fertility to produce vigorous crop plants increase competitiveness of crops against weeds. Crop rotation breaks life cycles of weeds by alternating the crop it must associate with. Herbicides are efficient and profitable to control weeds, but must be part of a total weed management program with use of minimum rate. The best weed management will be an integrated approach including two or more methods to manage weed problems.
This study was conducted to evaluate overwintering of hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth), biomass, and inorganic N concentration in soil to verify the adaptability of eight cultivars of hairy vetch into country. Winter survival rate was higher for the hairy vetch cultivars, such as Hungvillosa or Ostsaat, than those of Minnie, Oregon common, and TTF1, which affected amount of biomass of each hairy vetch, with higher biomass observed in Hungvillosa or Ostsaat cultivar. There were no significant difference for the mineral nutrients of each hairy vetch cultivar. Inorganic N concentration in soil was increased at 10 days after mowing by application of Hungvillosa and Ostsaat cultivars that had highly produced N content from the raw materials.

This study examined the growth performance and field evaluation of the dual herbicide-resistant transgenic creeping bentgrass plants. The effect of glyphosate treatment on the herbicide resistance of the transgenic creeping bentgrass plants was determined, and the non-transgenic control plant withered at the concentration $11{\mu}g/mL$ or higher whereas the transgenic creeping bentgrass plants survived the treatment at the concentration of $3,000{\mu}g/mL$, and the increase of the plant length was repressed as the glyphosate treatment concentration was increased. At field evaluation, glufosinate-ammonium and glyphosate were simultaneously treated to investigate the weed control effect. The results showed that more than 90% of the weeds withered four week after herbicide treatment, while the transgenic creeping bentgrass plants continued to grow normally. Therefore, the dual herbicide-resistant creeping bentgrass plants may be able to greatly contribute to the efficiency of weed control and to the economic feasibility of mowing in places such as golf courses.
Antibiotic activity of selected biocontrol agent Trichoderma harzianum ABGS-95 showed 59% to P. graminicola, 65% to P. aphanidermatum and 57% to Rhizoctonia solani compare to non-treated control. ABGC-95 showed resistant to major agrochemicals such as metalaxyl+mancozeb, etridiazole, propamocarb, toclofos methly, terbuconazole, pencycuron and flutolanil. The biocontrol agent T. harzianum ABGC-95 grew vigorously in low nutrient media and water agar. And sand mixture with wheat bran or mowing debris of zoysia grass also provided good growth of the organism. Application of sand mixture of Trichoderma spp. into aeration cores in golf showed most effective biocontrol of pythium blight. Top dressing application of T. harzianum ABGC-95 reached 83% control efficient while spray application of same biocontrol agent showed only 69% control. The biocontrol agent ABGC-95 successfully suppressed the population density of Pythium spp. in soil. The population density of total Pythium spp. in ABGC-95 treated soil was sustained almost same population at beginning(early May) up to end of August, while the population in untreated control plot was increased 5 times that of beginning and even 10 times in pathogen accumulated soil.
The objective of this study was to observe the differences in growth of creeping bentgrass turf to 'polymer coated urea fertilizer' and 'uncoated urea fertilizer', and to analyze durability of fertilizer effect with the 'polymer coated urea'. The experiment was initiated on June 3, 1996, at the Iowa State University Horticulture Research Station, north of Ames, Iowa. The experiment was conducted on an area of 'Penneagle' Creeping bentgrass(Agrostis palustris) maintained at fair-'way mowing height (1.3cm). The study was repeated at the same arrangement beginning on July 25, 1996. Visual quality data, clipping fresh and dry weight, and nitrogen(N) content in the clippings were taken weekly. Quality of the turf increased with increasing N rate. While quality ratings were higher for turf receiving polymer coated urea than for turf receiving uncoated urea at several times following treatment, but not significant. Fresh and dry clipping weights were quite variable during the trial. Visual quality rating and clipping yields improved with increasing rates of N but these differences were not statically significant between polymer coated and uncoated urea treatment. The durability of fertilizer efficiency in polymer coated urea was not last longer compare with uncoated urea from two weeks after treatment. Higher rates of N application increased the concentration of N in tissue but no significant differences between turf plots receiving polymer coated and uncoated urea. Key words: Polymer coated urea, Creeping bentgrass, Fertilizer, Turfgrass.

This paper presents an integrated underwater navigational algorithm for unmanned underwater vehicles, using additional two-range transducers. This paper proposes a measurement model, using two range measurements, to improve the performance of an IMU-DVL (inertial measurement unit - Doppler velocity log) navigation system for long-time operation of underwater vehicles, excluding DVL measurement. Extended Kalman filter was adopted to propagate the error covariance, to update the measurement errors, and to correct the state equation when the external measurements are available. Simulation was conducted with the 6-d.o.f nonlinear numerical model of an AUV in lawn-mowing survey mode, at current flaw, where the velocity information is unavailable. Simulations illustrate the effectiveness of the integrated navigation system, assisted by the additional range measurements without DVL sensing.
