  • This paper deals with design of high speed linear switched reluctance motor(LSRM). First, we derived design factor from pole arc ratio of stator and mover, and calculated time constant using inductance and resistance. Second, we decided design parameter from design factor using time constant. Finally, analyze characteristics for LSRM using finite element analysis.

  • By enforcing skew of permanent magnet, detent force decreases, but lateral force that acts for vertical direction of moving direction occurs. This force deteriorates various performance of PMLSM as that acts to friction force between mover and LM guide. Therefore, in this paper, V skew model is proposed for lateral force's reduction and simulation results are compared to experimental value.

  • Control algorithms and implementation issues for a wind turbine simulator are presented for realistic emulation of variable wind characteristics using a lab-scale motor and generator set. When the average wind speed nd turbulence level is given, the torque reference of prime mover is decided through various blocks, such as random wind speed generator, blade characteristic curves, and tower effect compensation. The variable nature of wind can be implemented and tested by not only the computer simulation but also the hardware-in-loop-simulator (HILS). Some application examples of HILS include the development and test of turbine control software for more efficient and stable operation. Feasibility of the proposed simulator has verified by computer simulations and experiment.

  • This paper deals with dynamic characteristics of LSRM. Position choose mover of LSRM and inductance. When approved current in each phase by decided position, we made sure current and voltage according to turn-on, turn-off. In dynamic simulation of LSRM, through an experiment, we decided turn-on position of inductance profile. Also, we presented dynamic characteristic analysis model which is consisted at motor and sensor signal part, etc., and substitute circuit constant that get using magnetic equivalent circuit method, we confirmed current and voltage waveform.

  • Information of rotor position is necessary to drive Linear Switched Reluctance Motor(LSRM). Therefore, linear optical encoder is used to detect a mover position. Normally, since the price of encoder, which is used for linear motor is relatively higher than the one used for rotory motor and the cost of additional equipment increases with the length of motor. As a results, LSRM has a great part for the total cost. In this paper, as using reflective type photo-sensors, it replaced the expensive linear encoder.

  • This paper deals with a Double-type Transverse Flux Linear Motor which can be applied to high power system. This type can reduce overall system volume because it has a double flux path, and less number of phases and turns comparing with prototype for one phase. This machine is based on permanent magnet excitation, and the pole shape is designed to reduce attraction force between stator and mover poles. In the paper, the basic configuration of double type is introduced first, and the principle of movement is explained. After performing the characteristic analysis by 3-dimensional equivalent magnetic circuit network, the results are discussed.

  • Study of an accurate and robust braking control method is required as a technical improvement to the servo system. In particular, the braker exhibiting constant braking performance under speed variation conditions of the prime mover needs to be investigated. In this paper, the braking torque of the eddy current braker between the electromagnet stator and rotating disk is analyzed. The torque-speed characteristics and accurate disk construction are represented. From the computer simulation results, it was found that eddy current braking torque is linear or approximately constant over the desired speed range depending on the rotor material, disk construction, pole number and pole displacement of the stator. These relations are confirmed by experimental results.

  • This paper proposes inserted core type of slotless Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor(PMLSM) to improve its low thrust density. However, by inserting the core between windings of each phase, detent force is generated and it acts as thrust ripple. Furthermore, linear motors generate end effect making thrust ripple. So, this paper applies the neural network to minimize detent force and to maximize thrust. Also, sub-poles is placed at the end parts of the mover to compensate end effect. To confirm of calculation method's validity, the calculated results are compared with experimental results.

  • In moving coil LOA, the variation of mover position and the consequent changes of coil flux path affect the coil inductance because of unbalanced magnetic circuit. Furthermore, the armature field shifts and distorts the airgap flux density distribution due to the magnet alone by a certain amount, which cause the unbalanced reciprocating force. In this paper, we propose the reduction method of armature reaction and coil inductance. The proposed LOA has the shorted ring the saturated core, the double coil, and Halbach array.

  • This paper deals with a simulation and a position control for linear synchronous motor with Halbach array (HA) permanent magnet mover. The results of control simulation for HA-PMLSM having air-core primary are calculated using Matlab Simulink. The prototype of HA-PMLSM is tested DSP (TMS320F240 EVM).
