In this paper, we propose an automatic lower extremity vessel extraction based on rigid registration and bone elimination techniques in CT and CT angiography images. First, automatic partitioning of the lower extremity based on the anatomy is proposed to consider the local movement of the bone. Second, rigid registration based on distance map is performed to estimate the movement of the bone between CT and CT angiography images. Third, bone elimination and vessel masking techniques are proposed to remove bones in CT angiography image and to prevent the vessel near to bone from eroding. Fourth, post-processing based on vessel tracking is proposed to reduce the effect of misalignment and noises like a cartilage. For the evaluation of our method, we performed the visual inspection, accuracy measures and processing time. For visual inspection, the results of applying general subtraction, registered subtraction and proposed method are compared using volume rendering and maximum intensity projection. For accuracy evaluation, intensity distributions of CT angiography image, subtraction based method and proposed method are analyzed. Experimental result shows that bones are accurately eliminated and vessels are robustly extracted without the loss of other structure. The total processing time of thirteen patient datasets was 40 seconds on average.
Objective: There is a lack of studies using the 3D-2D image registration techniques on the mechanism of a shoulder injury for ice hockey players. This study aimed to analyze in vivo 3D glenohumeral joint arthrokinematics in collegiate ice hockey athletes and compare shoulder scaption with or without a hockey stick using the 3D-2D image registration technique. Method: We recruited 12 male elite ice hockey players (age, 19.88 ± 0.65 years). For arthrokinematic analysis of the common shoulder abduction movements of the injury pathogenesis of ice hockey players, participants abducted their dominant arm along the scapular plane and then grabbed a stick using the same motion under C-arm fluoroscopy with 16 frames per second. Computed tomography (CT) scans of the shoulder complex were obtained with a 0.6-mm slice pitch. Data from the humerus translation distances, scapula upward rotation, anterior-posterior tilt, internal to external rotation angles, and scapulohumeral rhythm (SHR) ratio on glenohumeral (GH) joint kinematics were outputted using a MATLAB customized code. Results: The humeral translation in the stick hand compared to the bare hand moved more anterior and more superior until the abduction angle reached 40°. When the GH joint in the stick hand was at the maximal abduction of the scapula, the scapula was externally rotated 2~5° relative to 0°. The SHR ratio relative to the abduction along the scapular plane at 40° indicated a statistically significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05). Conclusion: With arm loading with the stick, the humeral and scapular kinematics showed a significant correlation in the initial section of the SHR. Although these correlations might be difficult in clinical settings, ice hockey athletes can lead to the movement difference of the scapulohumeral joints with inherent instability.
Objective: The aim of this study is to propose a unit touch gesture model, which would be useful to predict the performance time on mobile devices. Background: When estimating usability based on Model-based Evaluation (MBE) in interfaces, the GOMS model measured 'operators' to predict the execution time in the desktop environment. Therefore, this study used the concept of operator in GOMS for touch gestures. Since the touch gestures are comprised of possible unit touch gestures, these unit touch gestures can predict to performance time with unit touch gestures on mobile devices. Method: In order to extract unit touch gestures, manual movements of subjects were recorded in the 120 fps with pixel coordinates. Touch gestures are classified with 'out of range', 'registration', 'continuation' and 'termination' of gesture. Results: As a results, six unit touch gestures were extracted, which are hold down (H), Release (R), Slip (S), Curved-stroke (Cs), Path-stroke (Ps) and Out of range (Or). The movement time predicted by the unit touch gesture model is not significantly different from the participants' execution time. The measured six unit touch gestures can predict movement time of undefined touch gestures like user-defined gestures. Conclusion: In conclusion, touch gestures could be subdivided into six unit touch gestures. Six unit touch gestures can explain almost all the current touch gestures including user-defined gestures. So, this model provided in this study has a high predictive power. The model presented in the study could be utilized to predict the performance time of touch gestures. Application: The unit touch gestures could be simply added up to predict the performance time without measuring the performance time of a new gesture.

In the standard location strategy such as IS-41 and GSM, Home Location Register(HLR) and Visitor Location Register(VLR) databases are used to manage the location of mobile terminals. The primary goal that location management schemes investigate is to reduce the cost of database access and the traffic for signaling network. When mobile terminals move frequently, one of problems in the standard location management scheme is that HLR database is highly updated and the traffic in signaling network can be occurred significantly due to high message transfer rate between HRL and VLR. As a solution to these problems, this paper proposes the location management scheme using VLR Gateway(VG) to reduce the both traffics of HLR update and signaling network which are resulted from location registration requirements of mobile terminals whenever they cross their registration area boundary. VG is a kind of database that is placed between HLR and VLR. It integrates one or more registration area defined in a system into one group and plays a role on behalf of HLR in a integrated registration scope so that the call delivery and the movement of mobile terminals are possible without HLR access in the scope. In order to evaluate performance of IS-41 and proposed scheme, we simulate two schemes based on wide range of call to mobility ratio. Its experiment result shows that in the proposed scheme total database cost increased slightly whereas HLR and signaling traffic decreased remarkably.

In recent years, the maker culture has realized the concept of 'making' itself through the latest technology of high technology. It is rapidly spreading as a maker's movement by sharing the production methods and information of individuals through the Internet. Countries that are leading the makers' movement expect the maker's movement to be the driving force for new value creation and economic growth from the point of view of things and the Internet. We are developing various types of open IoT platforms that can register various Internet devices and services manufactured and developed through DIY and realize interoperable services. Typical open IoT platforms require specialized API analysis capabilities and difficult access to general users due to difficult platform registration conditions and procedures. In this paper, we try to construct an open IoT platform that can be operated as a real service by creating a simple Internet application device and service application from a general manufacturer's point of view.

A previous location area scheme was proposed for cellular network, in which the size of location area of a user is dynamically determined by is current mobility and call arrival rate as the burden of system reaches the minimum. This scheme, however, doesn't consider other individual's movement pattern respectively because of allocating location area with a system's fixed pattern. When mobile subscribers move fast, this scheme allocates especially so large location area to reduce the number of location registration that it makes much paging cost. In this paper, we suggest new dynamic location area management which allocates location area according to each subscriber's mobility regarding its current location as center point. This new scheme allocates fast subscriber larger location area, which resulted in reducing the number of location registration. And small area paging reduces paging cost.
Mobile IP is a base protocol to support host mobility in IP-based wireless network. It is well known that the protocol contains two main delay factors on a handoff process; one is to detect a host movement, and the other is to register the host's current location to its home network. This paper examines Layer 2(L2) handoff procedure in the IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN, and identifies these L2 triggers that can be usefully applied to Layer 3(L3) handoff. Then, the MCAA(Multiple-Casting using Anchor Agent) mechanism is proposed. It makes use of the L2 trigger and the network topology to construct an anchor agent dynamically, and the multiple-casting scheme to prevent an ongoing packet to be lost. Using a network simulator, the proposed mechanism has been evaluated the handoff delay and the packet lost point of view, in comparison with the regional registration protocol which is the most well known micro mobility support mechanism.
Point cloud content is immersive content that represents real-world objects with three-dimensional (3D) points. In the process of acquiring point cloud data or encoding and decoding point cloud data, the resolution of point cloud content could be degraded. In this paper, we propose a method of progressively enhancing the resolution of sequential point cloud contents through inter-frame registration. To register a point cloud, the iterative closest point (ICP) algorithm is commonly used. Existing ICP algorithms can transform rigid bodies, but there is a disadvantage that transformation is not possible for non-rigid bodies having motion vectors in different directions locally, such as point cloud content. We overcome the limitations of the existing ICP-based method by registering regions with motion vectors in different directions locally between the point cloud content of the current frame and the previous frame. In this manner, the resolution of the point cloud content with geometric movement is enhanced through the process of registering points between frames. We provide four different point cloud content that has been enhanced with our method in the experiment.

Objectives: Due to the uncontrolled increase of the mobile health applications and their scarce use by elderly for reason of absence credibility of measurements by lack scientific support, the aim of this study was to evaluate the differences between the biophysical measurements based on standard instrument against a mobile application using controlled experiments with elderly to propose an effective validation model of the developed apps. Methods: The subjects of the study (50 people) were elderly people who wanted to check their weight and cardiac status. For this purpose, two mobile applications were used to measure energy expenditure based on physical activity (Activ) and heart rate (SMCa) during controlled walking at specific speeds. Minute-by-minute measurements were recorded to evaluate the average error and the accuracy of the data acquired through confidence intervals by means of statistical analysis of the data. Results: The experimental results obtained by the Activ/SMCa apps showed a consistent statistical similarity with those obtained by specialized equipment with confidence intervals of 95%. All the subjects were advised and trained on the use of the applications, and the initial registration of data to characterize them served to significantly affect the perceived ease of use. Conclusions: This is the first model to validate a health-app with elderly people allowed to demonstrate the anthropometric and body movement differences of subjects with equal body mass index (BMI) but younger. Future studies should consider not only BMI data but also other variables, such as age and usability perception factors.
For a survey research in which the characteristics of the population of interest are investigated from a sample, representativeness of the sampling frame is one of the most important part to be considered. If the sampling frame fails to represent the population properly, statistical procedures based on the even efficient sampling design result in significant nonsampling biases and thus the statistical validities of the results could be damaged. But the construction of the reliable sampling frame that covers the population properly costs money and time and thus the sampling frame based on a census or a large scale survey is often used in practice. For example, the sampling frame based on the population households census is used for many household surveys in Korea. But due to the time difference between the census and a survey of interest, the sampling frame constructed from the census is expected to fail to cover the population of interest. Especially, one could expect a large amount of population and household movement in a large city like Seoul. Thus in our research, we considered the construction of new sampling frame and the procedure of sample selection for 2008 Seoul survey. We analyzed the sampling frame based on 2005 population households census and found that it does not represent the population properly. Thus, we proposed a new sampling frame based on resident registration DB for 2008 Seoul survey. We also proposed the sampling weights and estimator of the population mean based on the sample selected from the newly constructed sampling frame.
