  • Background: Mandibular setback surgery can change the position of the mandible which improves occlusion and facial profile. Surgical movement of the mandible affects the base of the tongue, hyoid bone, and associated tissues, resulting in changes in the pharyngeal airway space. The aim of this study was to analyze the 3-dimensional (3D) changes in the hyoid bone and tongue positions and oropharyngeal airway space after mandibular setback surgery. Methods: A total of 30 pairs of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images taken before and 1 month after surgery were analyzed by measuring changes in the hyoid bone and tongue positions and oropharyngeal airway space. The CBCT images were reoriented using InVivo 5.3 software (Anatomage, San Jose, USA) and landmarks were assigned to establish coordinates in a three-dimensional plane. The mean age of the patients was 21.7 years and the mean amount of mandibular setback was 5.94 mm measured from the B-point. Results: The hyoid bone showed significant posterior and inferior displacement (P < 0.001, P < 0.001, respectively). Significant superior and posterior movements of the tongue were observed (P < 0.05, P < 0.05, respectively). Regarding the velopharyngeal and glossopharyngeal spaces, there were significant reductions in the volume and minimal cross-sectional area (P < 0.001). The anteroposterior and transverse widths of the minimal cross-sectional area were decreased (P < 0.001, P < 0.001, respectively). In addition, the amount of mandibular setback positively correlated with the amount of posterior and inferior movement of the hyoid bone (P < 0.05, P < 0.05, respectively). Conclusion: There were significant changes in the hyoid bone, tongue, and airway space after mandibular setback surgery.

  • Purpose: To analyze the accuracy of tumor volume dose following field width change, to check the difference of dose change by using self-made moving car, and to evaluate practical delivery tumor dose when tomotherapy in the treatment of organ influenced by breathing. Materials and Methods: By using self-made moving car, the difference of longitudinal movement (0.0 cm, 1.0 cm, 1.5 cm, 2.0 cm) was applied and compared calculated dose with measured dose according to change of field width (1.05 cm, 2.50 cm, 5.02 cm) and apprehended margin of error. Then done comparative analysis in degree of photosensitivity of DQA film measured by using Gafchromic EBT film. Dose profile and Gamma histogram were used to measure degree of photosensitivity of DQA film. Results: When field width were 1.05 cm, 2.50 cm, 5.02 cm, margin of error of dose delivery coefficient was -2.00%, -0.39%, -2.55%. In dose profile of Gafchromic EBT film's analysis, the movement of moving car had greater motion toward longitudinal direction and as field width was narrower, big error increased considerably at high dose part compared to calculated dose. The more field width was narrowed, gamma index had a large considerable influence of moving at gamma histogram. Conclusion: We could check the difference of longitudinal dose of moving organ. In order to small field width and minimize organ moving due to breathing, it is thought to be needed to develop breathing control unit and fixation tool.

  • Understanding on nutrient solute movement during the course of freezing and thawing was attempted through laboratory and field obsevations. Small sectioned tubes with 5cm inner diameter, 0.2cm thick and 1cm long were connected to 30cm long soil columns for laboratory study. The columns were filled with soil, and treated with 20mmol/kg $KNO_3$ for upper 5cm. The upper end was set in the freezing section, and the lower end was set in the refrigerating section of a refrigerator. Temperature was controlled at $-7({\pm}1)^{\circ}C$ and $1.5({\pm}1)^{\circ}C$, respectively. After top 5cm soil was frozen, the columns were sectioned, and analyzed for $NO_3^-$, $NH_4^+$ and $K^+$. For field study, the 20cm inner diameter and lm long soil columns were installed in Chuncheon and Daegwanryung, where the altitude was 74m and 840m, respectively. The soils used were silt loam and clay loam. The top 20cm soils were treated with 50mmol/kg as $KNO_3$. The soil columns were taken during winter freezing and after thawing. By laboratiry study, upward movement of $NO_3^-$ and $K^+$ during the course of freezing was confirmed. The upward movement of $K^+$ was, however, one fifth to one tenth of $NO_3^-$. The upward movement of inorganic nitrogen as well as laboratory during the course of freezing, but large amount of nitrogen was lost from the profile after thawing in early spring. Leached nitrogen from the upper 20cm to lower part was 17 to 24 percents. The maximum depth of leaching during the experiment was 50cm for all soils. The net loss of inorganic nitrogen from the whole profile ranged 8.7 to 39.5 percents. The net loss was greater in Daegwanryung where temperature was lower and snowfall was larger than Chuncheon, and the loss was greater from the silt loam soil than clay loam soil of which percolation rate was small. The results implied that reasons for nitrogen loss during the winter might include surface washing by snow melt as well as leaching and denitrification.

  • In esthetic treatment of bimaxillary protrusion, it is important to move backward the anterior teeth segment. For the backward movement of the anterior teeth segment, orthodontic force and segmental osteotomy have been applied on the clinical treatment until recently. These methods caused long treatment time, anchorage loss, the possibility of root resorption and the complication followed by segmental osteotomy. Therefore, corticotomy has become a major concern lately. This research has been conducted to study the efficiency of corticotomy in the treatment of bimaxillary protrusion comparing the profile change, canine retraction velocity and space closing time. The research compared and analyzed space closing time, canine retraction velocity and profile change in two groups of patients. Both groups were formed out of patients over 18 years old who visited the department of dentistry in Hanyang University for treatments. The experimental group who was treated by corticotomy and Skeletal Anchorage System(SAS). The control group who received orthodontic treatment using SAS. The following results are produced after analyzing both groups. The significant statistic difference in space closing time has been observed in the experimental group as compared with the control group(p<0.05). In the experimental group, the significant statistic increase in canine retraction velocity was also observed(p<0.05). There was no significant difference in profile change between the control group and the experimental group(p<0.05). As a result, orthodontic treatment using corticotomy has a reasonable efficiency in space closing time as compared with the existing orthodontic treatment. Therefore, it is concluded that corticotomy with orthodontic treatment can be reasonably applied to dentofacial abnormality.

  • Swallowing impairment is a frequent complication following stroke. The characteristics of swallowing impairment with stork patient can facilitate identification of individuals at risk of dysphagia would be of great helpful. The present study examined oropharyngeal swallowing impairment with subacute stroke patients using the Modified Barium Swallowing Impairment Profile(MBSImP). The 49 consecutive patients with the supratentorial stroke met inclusion criteria for the present study. A retrospective review was performed of patients who underwent the videofluoroscopic swallowing study(VFSS). Of Stroke patients, 95.9% exhibited abnormal function of lip closure. 98% and 57.1 % shown abnormal tongue function and lingual motion, respectively. Oral residue was present in 51% and delayed pharyngeal response was present in 89.9%. In addition, abnormal laryngeal and hyoid excursion was seen in 42.9% and 87.8%, respectively. Abnormal function of soft palate elevation was present in 18.4% and abnormal epiglottic movement was seen in 4.1%. 30.6% of 30.6% of these patients exhibited abnormal laryngeal closure. All of the stroke patients(100%) in this study exhibited abnormal pharyngeal stripping wave and pharyngoesophageal segment opening. Abnormal tongue base retraction and oral reside were present 91.8%, respectively. The results suggest that stroke patient is more likely to exhibit reduced swallowing functions including lip closure, tongue control, initiation of pharyngeal swallow, anterior hyoid motion, tongue base retraction, pharyngeal residue and pharyngoesophageal contraction. Therefore, these data could provide valid and precise information regarding physiological evidence to delineate symptoms of dysphagia in this stroke cohort. Future studies should explore the bolus effect in the swallowing impairment.

  • The purpose of this study was to test and compare the accuracy and reliability of soft tissue profile predictions generated from two computer software programs (Quick Ceph Image $Pro^{TM}$ (ver 3.0) and $V-Ceph^{TM}$(ver 3.5)) for mandibular set-back surgery. The presurgical and postsurgical lateral cephalograms of 40 patients (20 males and 20 females) were traced on the same acetate paper with the reference taken as the cranial base outline. The presurgical skeletal outlines were digitized onto each computer program and the mandible was moved to mimic the expected surgical procedure with reverence to the mandibular anterior border and lower incisor position of the actual postsurgical skeletal outline. The soft tissue profile was generated and the amount and direction of skeletal movement was calculated with each software. The predicted soft tissue profile was compared to the actual postsurgical soft tissue profile. There were differences between the actual and the predicted surgical soft tissue profile charges in the magnitude and direction, especially the upper lip. lower lip and the soft tissue chin (P<0.05). Quick Ceph had more horizontal measurement errors and thickness errors for the upper lip and lower lip, but V-Ceph had more vertical measurement errors of the lower lip (P<0.05). There was a positive correlation between the prediction errors and the amount of mandibular movements in the vertical position of Sn, the horizontal position of Ls and the upper lip thickness for V-Ceph, and there was a negative correlation in the horizontal position and the thickness of the lower lip for Quick Ceph (P<0.05). However all of the Prediction errors of both imaging softwares were ranged within 3mm, and this was considered to be allowable clinically.

  • The strong turbulence characteristic of typhoon not only will significantly change flow field characteristics surrounding the large-scale wind turbine and aerodynamic force distribution on surface, but also may cause morphological evolution of coast dune and thereby form sand storms. A 5MW horizontal-axis wind turbine in a wind power plant of southeastern coastal areas in China was chosen to investigate the distribution law of additional loads caused by wind-sand coupling movement of coast dune at landing of strong typhoons. Firstly, a mesoscale Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) mode was introduced in for high spatial resolution simulation of typhoon "Megi". Wind speed profile on the boundary layer of typhoon was gained through fitting based on nonlinear least squares and then it was integrated into the user-defined function (UDF) as an entry condition of small-scaled CFD numerical simulation. On this basis, a synchronous iterative modeling of wind field and sand particle combination was carried out by using a continuous phase and discrete phase. Influencing laws of typhoon and normal wind on moving characteristics of sand particles, equivalent pressure distribution mode of structural surface and characteristics of lift resistance coefficient were compared. Results demonstrated that: Compared with normal wind, mesoscale typhoon intensifies the 3D aerodynamic distribution mode on structural surface of wind turbine significantly. Different from wind loads, sand loads mainly impact on 30° ranges at two sides of the lower windward region on the tower. The ratio between sand loads and wind load reaches 3.937% and the maximum sand pressure coefficient is 0.09. The coupling impact effect of strong typhoon and large sand particles is more significant, in which the resistance coefficient of tower is increased by 9.80% to the maximum extent. The maximum resistance coefficient in typhoon field is 13.79% higher than that in the normal wind field.

  • In this paper, the speed control problem of moving camera is investigated for tracking the movement of the human-face. The camera system with pan-tilt mechanism sends an image to PC and PC sends back tracking coordinate to the camera. Then the camera tracks a human face in real time. The speed of the stepping motors for moving the camera must be controlled to the target region fast enough and smoothly, In this paper, a fuzzy logic controller is proposed for driving step motors. By creating driving acceleration and deceleration speed Profile, the speed of the motors is controled fast and smoothly. Experiments are performed to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Employing screen printing technology, aluminum is applied to the back side of the n-type silicon wafer to see the effect of the heat treatment parameters on the Voc of the solar cell, Heat treatment at $850^{\circ}C$ produces the highest Voc among various heat treatment conditions. Heat treatment at the temperatures higher than $850^{\circ}C$ results in lower Voc, which is due to the destruction of the Al-Si alloy emitter layer. The destruction of Al-Si layer observed to be caused by the vigorous movement of silicon atoms toward aluminum layer during the heat treatment.

  • This paper is concerned with the analysis on the surface stress profiles of perfectly plastic material in backward extrusion process. Due to heavy surface expansion appeared usually in the backward extrusion process, the tribological conditions along the interface between the material and the punch land are very severe. In the present study, the analyses have focused to reveal the surface conditions at the contact boundary for various punch shapes in terms of surface expansion, contact pressure, and relative movement between punch and workpiece which consists of sliding velocity and distance, respectively. Punch geometries adopted in the analysis include concave, hemispherical, pointed and ICFG recommended shapes. Extensive simulation has been conducted by applying the rigid-plastic finite element method to the backward extrusion process under different punch geometries. The simulation results are summarized in terms of surface expansion, contact pressure, sliding velocity and sliding distance at different reduction in height, deformation patterns, and load-stroke relationship, respectively.
