Yamada's mountain ordering is to be said as an upward system, because the area and volume of the mountains become the larger as more than two lower order mountains constitute the higher order mountain. However, his mountain ordering shows some limitations to totally understand the mountain systems and to systematically manage the various kinds of mountainous informations. Because the independent third, fourth and so on, as well as the second lower order mountains are included in the higher order mountain. In order to solve the problem above, the downward system is suggested as the alternative of his upward system. The downward system means that the higher order mountain is classified into the second lower order mountains, and the second lower order mountain is classified into the third lower order mountains and finally the 2nd order mountain classified into the 1st order mountains. The method to classify a certain mountain systematically into all mountainous elements and the new nomenclature to be used for the classified elements are developed, using the downward system above. And the structure of database could be also suggested for the integrated and systematic management of mountain informations.
In this paper, we propose a design of the implementation for a search and rescue system for mountain climbers and evaluate the performance of the system. Search and rescues of people in emergency situations in mountain areas have been difficult due to lack of information about their location. In the proposed design, several small and commonly-available RF-based sensors, some amount of storage and processing devices are used. Infestations offer geographically intermittent coverage at high speeds. The proposed mountain climber tracking system use the directed diffusion scheme combined with infostation system. We also analyze the performance of the proposed system with NS-2 simulation package. From the performance analysis results, we expect that the proposed system will be very useful to early detect climbers' locations in emergency situations in Korea mountain areas.
The objectives of this research are to develop hazard prediction map S/W for mountain river road. This mountain river road disaster happens by debris flow, landslide, debris accumulation and this cause are locally rainfall and heavy rainfall. System is constructed to GIS base. This research app lied to Kangwondo. We developed protocol to analyze calamity danger in mountain district area and examined propriety system. Furthermore examined the DB required and expression plan for hazard map creation SW construction by mountain rivers road.
Background: This study was conducted to assess the physicochemical water quality and the altitudinal distribution of low-temperature and mountain epilithic diatom (LTMD) community in Buk and Hangae streams that are located in Seorak Mountain with the height of 1708 m in Korea. And the community characteristics of LTMD found in the Buk and Hangae streams were compared to that of LTMD from the Han River system. Results: The physicochemical water qualities of Buk and Hangae streams were determined to be very clean. As a result of analyzing the community composition, 135 taxa of epilithic diatoms were determined, and 22 taxa appeared including Hannaea arcus var. subarcus which are known to have low-temperature and mountain ecological characteristics in the literatures. The relative frequencies of LTMD were 37.0~0.9% range from the upper to lower regions. Although Diatoma tenuis, Eunotia minor, and Gomphonema affine are known to be ubiquitous in streams and lakes, in this research, the three taxa were added into low-temperature and mountain epilithic diatom, since D. tenuis and E. minor appeared only in altitudes above 600 m, and G. affine had the highest relative frequency during spring and fall in altitudes above 700 m, when water temperature was around $10^{\circ}C$. Conclusions: Among the 24 taxa of low-temperature and mountain epilithic diatom (LTMD) (including the 3 taxa added in this study), 14 taxa (Diatoma hyemalis, D. mesodon, D. tenuis, Hannaea arcus, H. arcus var. subarcus, Ulnaria inaequalis, Eunotia bilunaris, E. implicata, E. minor, E. muscicola, E. silvahercynia, E. septena, Delicata delicatula, and Gomphonema affine) represented the characteristics of LTMD very well; they grow best in water temperatures below $15^{\circ}C$ in Buk and Hangae streams and Han River system.
A three-dimensional linear model and the Advanced Regional Prediction System (ARPS) were used to simulate parabola-shaped disturbances and clouds in the lee of a bell-shaped mountain. The ARPS model was compared in the x-y plane against the linear model's analytic solution. Under similar conditions with the linear theory, the ARPS produced well-developed parabola-shaped mountain disturbances and confirmed the features are accounted for in the linear regime. A parabola-shaped cloud in the lee of an isolated bell-shaped mountain was successfully simulated in the ARPS after 6 hours of integration time with the prescribed initial and boundary conditions, as well as a microphysical scheme.
Climate data were obtained over an eight-year period (July 2013 to June 2021) using an automatic weather observation system (AWS) installed at the foot of Mt. Geumo in Chilgok, Gyeongbuk. Using climate data, the statistical and meteorological characteristics of the local circulation between the Nakdong River and Mt. Geumo were analyzed. This study is based on automatic weather observation system data for Dongyeong, along with comparative climate data from the Korea Meteorological Administration (Chilgok) and the Gumi meteorological observatory. Over the eight- years, mountain and valley winds have occurred 48 times a year on average, with the highest occurring in May and the weakest winds in June and December. When mountain winds occurred, the temperature in the nearby lowland region more strongly decreased than when valley winds blew. However, the potential to use mountain winds to improve urban thermal environments is limited because mountain winds occur infrequently in summer when a drop in nighttime temperature is required.

First purpose of this study is to build Korean mountain ridgelines based on GIS by using spatial information and analyze natural environment around mountain ridgelines built before. Second purpose of this study is to integrate Korean ridgelines and natural environment built before and then provide the integrated information related to ridgelines for public. To do so, fist of all, Korean mountain ridgelines including Deagan, Jeongmeak, Gimeak, Jimeak, are built as spatial information. Second, Encoding of mountain ridgelines is conducted to analyze main and divaricate ridgelines systematically as grades of ridgelines. Third, based on spatial information, present condition using natural environment including geographical information, ecological zoning map, environmental conservation value assessment map, is analyzed. Finally, as a method integrating and using the aforementioned three information, the system providing integrated information based on GIS is proposed, To build the GIS data of Gimeak and Jimeak, they should be analyzed in more detail than Beakdu Deagan and Jeongmeak, so existing methodology to build mountain ridgelines based on GIS is improved. According to the distance of each mountain ridgeline, they are separated into five grades, and encoding of each mountain ridgeline based on Beakdu Deagan is applied to all mountain ridgelines to figure out the present condition of ridgelines themselves. In addition, according to the distance of each mountain ridgeline, it is separated into three areas: core, buffer, median zone. Based on three zones, the way to make use of the information efficiently related to mountain ridgelines is proposed. This study systematizes Korean mountain ridgelines which did not have systematic structures and then analyzes systematic mountain ridgelines. Based on this analysis, this study finds the way to makes use of information related to mountain ridgelines effectively.
Due to the rugged terrain, metro lines in mountain city across numerous wide rivers and deep valleys, resulting in instability of high-pier bridge and insecurity of metro train subjected to fluctuating crosswind. To ensure the safe operation in metro lines in mountain cities, running safety of the metro train over the high-pier bridge under crosswind is analyzed in this paper. Firstly, the dynamic model of the wind-train-bridge (WTB) system is built, in which the speed-up effect of crosswind is fully considered. On the basis of time domain analysis, the basic characteristics of the WTB system with high-pier are analyzed. Afterwards, the dynamic responses varies with train speed and wind speed are calculated, and the safety zone of metro train over a high-pier bridge subjected to fluctuating crosswind in mountain city is determined. The results indicate that, fluctuating crosswind triggers drastic vibration to the metro train and high-pier bridges, which in turn causes running instability of the train. For this reason, the corresponding safety zone for metro train running on the high-pier is proposed, and the metro traffic on the high-pier bridge should be closed as the mean wind speed of standard height reaches 9 m/s (15.6 m/s for the train).
