  • Induction motors are a workhorse for the industry. The condition monitoring and fault analysis are the main concern for the engineers. The bearing is one of the vital segment of the induction machine and the condition of the whole machine is decided based on the condition of the bearing. In the present paper, the vibration signal of the bearing has been used for the analysis. The first line of action is to perform a statistical analysis of the vibration signal which gives trends in signal. To get the location of a fault in the bearing the second action is to develop an index based on Wavelet Packet Transform node energy named as Bearing Damage Index (BDI). Further, Teager-Kaiser Energy Operator (TKEO) has been calculated from higher index value to get the envelope and finally Power Spectral Density (PSD) has been applied to identify the fault frequencies. A performance index has also been developed to compare the usefulness of the proposed method with other existing methods. The result shows that the strong amplitude of fault characteristics and its side bands help to decide the type of fault present in the recorded signal obtained from the bearing.

  • In field oriented control of Induction motors, speed sensor is required, which reduces the sturdiness of drive system and together with the expenditure of hardware for faultless transmission and processing of sensor signals it causes considerable expenses. These expensive sensors can be replaced by speed sensorless concept. And for good control, the knowledge of the rotor flux component or the rotor resistance are needs. Thus, this paper is based on a Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) that estimates the state variables that are required for the control by only measuring the line voltages and currents of the machine. the rotor time constant and speed estimated by the EKF show satisfactory agreement with the real values, with the simulation approaches.

  • The rotor faults of induction motors may cause bad effects on the performance of the induction motor. This paper proposes the detecting technique of these faults by analyzing the waveform of the induced current and voltage of search coil using numerical analysis and the experiment. Several defective rotor bars are simulated to analyze the fault conditions-broken bars and high resistance of rotor bars. In order to prove the usefulness of the proposed method, we made an prototype experimental apparatus. The waveform of the induced voltages in search coil has the obvious characteristics and it is easy to differentiate the normal rotor from the abnormal one. The experimental results show that the proposed method is useful to detect the rotor fault conditions.

  • Capacitor-run single-phase induction motor is cheaper than motors that use permanent magnets and is widely used in home appliances and industries based on relatively high durability and productivity. It can also be operated by line. However speed cannot be controlled because the line frequency is free. In this paper we dealt pole change method one of the method controlling speed of capacitor-run single-phase induction motor. The conventional pole change method is difficult to improve the power and efficiency of the motor because the composition of the pole change device is complex and do not have enough area of the windings because of windings not used according to the driving conditions. In this paper, we proposed the pole change method that is used main windings and auxiliary windings at 4 poles operation and used auxiliary windings as compensation windings at 2 poles operation. The proposed method was verified through finite element analysis.

  • The necessity and the importance of the remanufacturing are increasing day by day along with environmental problems. Many studies are being conducted on remanufacturing, but the research for cleaning is much lacking. This study aims to evaluate the effective cleaning method for remanufacturing of start motors, one of the automobile parts. The cleaning process consists of oil stain removal, drying and rust removal processes. In this study, the two processes were conducted except for the drying process which has little influence on cleaning. The methodology for cleaning agent selection, degreasing and rust removal process was presented. For each methodology, five analysis factors were calculated by two-way comparison according to the process, and the values were evaluated quantitatively by substituting them into the evaluation table. In the selection of cleaning agent, neutral system, ultrasonic cleaning in degreasing, and grinding in rust removal were selected as the best cleaning methods.

  • A driver-vehicle model means the integrated dynamic model that is able to estimate the steering wheel angle from the driver's desired path based on the dynamic characteristics of the driver and vehicle. Autonomous driving robot for factory automation has individual four-wheels which are driven by electronic motors. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of several four-wheel steering systems with the simultaneously steerable front and rear wheels are investigated and compared by means of the driver-vehicle model. A diver-vehicle model is proposed by using the PID control to velocity and trajectory of control autonomous driving robot. To determine the optimum speed of a autonomous driving robot, steady-state circle simulation is carried out with the ADAMS program and MATLAB control model.

  • This study developed a manipulator for robotic harvester to harvest cucumber. The manipulator was designed and built fur transferring an end-effecter from a fixed point to a specified cucumber. Its development involved the integration of a manipulating system with a PC compatible, DC motors, geared boxes, timing belts, and a motor controller board. Software, written in Quick basic. combined the functions of motor control with various circumstances. In order to move smoothly and rapidly the manipulator, it's shoulder link and elbow link were minimized by using rotational inertial moment without a motor and a geared box. After 30 replications of exercising the manipulator, it was concluded that the precision values of the X, Y and Z axes were less than 0.5mm, 7.25mm and 0.35mm, respectively. The precision data indicated the manipulator was not missing any steps fur the harvester to reach a target cucumber.

  • Semi-spherical CVT(SS-CVT) is one of friction drives, which transmits power via the friction force between a spherical shaped variator and output disks. The variator varies the speed ratio of SS-CVT continuously as well as transmits input power into the output shaft. Therefore two friction forces are normally applied on the variator; one is the longitudinal friction force for power transmission and the other is the lateral for shifting. In order to investigate the dynamic behavior of SS-CVT, we introduced a numerical model of 2-dimensional friction force using a function of slip ratio and slip angle. And a dynamic model, which describes the shifting mechanism of SS-CVT, is developed through 3-dimensional vector analysis. Finally we presented numerical results of the shift characteristics focused on the transient behavior of the variator's slip ratio and slip angle. The numerical results also show the typical CVT shifting characteristics of SS-CVT and stable shifting behaviors of the variator.

  • Space Science and Technology Laboratory at Kyung Hee University developed an 80cm Nasmyth telescope with the joint work of Space & Astronomy, Inc. It was set up at Muju county public astronomical observatory in Jeonlabuk-Do. Nasmyth focus system was selected for the telescope to use two focal points by a rotatable tertiary mirror. Focal ratios of the telescope are f10, f5 respectively. Support of the main mirror is made with Lasalle-system. This system uses 24-points in the back side of the mirror that are all resting on small counter-weights and side support is 10-points Boll link Flexible type with 2 Lasalle type. The mount is wheel & disk type Alt-Azimuth design using DC-servo motors. External high accuracy encoder has 47,600 sine-waves/rot. These encoders are used to make real-time corrections on all gearing errors.

  • Zoom tracking involves the automatic adjustment of the focus motor in response to the zoom motor movements for the purpose of keeping an object of interest in focus, and is typically achieved by moving the zoom and focus motors in a zoom lens module so as to follow the so-called "trace curve", which shows the in-focus motor positions versus the zoom motor positions for a specific object distance. Thus, one can simply implement zoom tracking by following the most closest trace curve after all the trace curve data are stored in memory. However, this approach is often prohibitive in practical implementation because of its large memory requirement. Many other zoom tracking methods such as GZT, AZT and etc. have been proposed to avoid large memory requirement but with a deteriorated performance. In this paper, we propose a new zoom tracking method called 'Approximate Feedback Zoom Tracking method (AFZT)' on DM36x-based IP network camera, which does not need large memory by approximating nearby trace curves, but generates better zoom tracking accuracy than GZT or AZT by utilizing focus value as feedback information. Experiments through real implementation shows the proposed zoom tracking method improves the tracking performance and works in real-time.
