  • For the study of the seismic-response control, it is necessary to use an experimental system with an earthquake simulator and control devices employing a hydraulic actuator system. However, such system is too expensive to prepare at the university laboratory. In this research, an economical experimental system is developed which has a small-sized earthquake simulator and an AMD using AC servo motors. An accurate mathematical model of the three-degree-of-freedom tests structure with an AMD is developed from the measurement of the input/output relationships of the structure. This paper demonstrates experimentally the efficacy of the frequency domain optimal control algorithm H$_2$in reducing the response of seismically excited building to verify the performance of the experimental system.

  • This paper introduces two types of magnetization, and reports the effect of the magnetization direction on the iron loss in a brushless DC (BLDC) motor using a 2-D time-stepped voltage source finite-element method (FEM). The iron losses were found to consist of hysteresis and eddy current loss, which were calculated from the time variation of the magnetic field distribution. To confirm the analysis, a prototype BLDC motor was constructed with a sintered ferrite magnet. The analysis and experimental results suggest that the magnetization direction has a significant effect in terms of the iron loss characteristics of the BLDC motor.

  • In order to investigate the formability of friction stir welded(FSW) tailor welded blanks(TWB) with respect to the base material's directional combination, aluminum alloy AA6111-T4 sheets were welded with three different conjoining types: RD-RD, TD-RD and TD-TD. Here, RD and TD represent rolling and transverse directions, respectively. For experimental formability study, three tests with gradual complexity were performed: the simple tension test with various weld line directions for uni-axial elongation, the hemisphere dome stretching test for biaxial stretching and the cylindrical cup deep drawing test. As a result, all three forming tests showed that RD-RD type samples exhibited the best formability, while TD-TD type sheets showed the least formability performance.

  • The analysis of the permanent type synchronous motor is performed by using the finite element method (FEM). The optimal design of the permanent magnet is presented for minimizing cogging torque in this paper. The cogging torque is expressed in terms of scalar potential computed by the virtual work formula. The minimization of cogging torque is achieved by using the ( ${\mu}$ + ${\lambda}$ ) Evolution Strategy (ES) and the selected flux densities are used to a constraint.

  • Synchronous Reluctance Motors(SynRM) with multiple flux barrier structures are considered in this paper. Since the stator of a SynRM is similar as that of an inductin motor, attention is focused here on the rotor structure. We have designed the parameter of SynRM and analyzed the characteristics of the electromagnetic energy conversion.

  • In this paper, We present the transient analysis method of induction motor by TDFE(Time Domain Finite Element) method. For simulation of transient performance, Maxwell's equations are solved using 2-Dimensional TDFE method, and the circuit equations from the stator and rotor are solved simultaneously. The time derivatives are discretized with Euler scheme and the Newton-Raphson iteration method is applied to a large system of equations which are representing the whole magnetic and feeding circuit equations because of the magnetic nonlinearity of the stator and rotor core. The presented method is applied to three phase induction motor. And we obtained the phase currents, torque and rotor position until the steady state.

  • As productions and deliveries of multiple products to multiple marketplaces have been increasingly popular, supply chain flexibility, which refers to an ability to deal with demand and capacity uncertainty, becomes an important issue in supply chain management. However, logistics costs have been largely neglected in the literature on supply chain flexibility structure. In this paper, we propose mathematical models to investigate the impact of the logistics costs on the optimal flexibility structure. We also conduct a simulation study and observe that logistics costs have a significant impact on the decision on supply chain flexibility structure. Such conclusion is also supported by the case study of a global car manufacturer, Honda Motors.

  • The Industrial Ethernet technology enables advanced control architectures and offers several advantages for high precision multiple motors actuation. This paper presents the implementation and analysis of a motor drive with EtherCAT, an industrial standard for real time Ethernet. Considering the characteristics of the implemented software and the network interface, the motion and time-response of motor actuation for the networked Mobile Inverted Pendulum have been analyzed. Using the analysis with the task execution times measured from the developed drive, the performance characteristics of the drive in respect of the maximum achievable throughput have been verified by comparing to the conventional RS232.

  • A criterion for the selection of spindle motor speeds in a hard disk drive (HDD) is investigated to guarantee stability and reduce nonrepeatable runout of a spining disk. Since the natural frequencies of the spining disk and the forced frequencies generated from the spindle motor depend on the rotating speed, careful consideration should be taken to avoid the resonance between the disk and motor. To do this, the natural frequencies of the spining disk are calculated and they are compared with the forced frequencies from the spindle motor.
