Evaluation of Pants Embedded with Motion Adaptable 3D Printing Fall Impact Protective Pads (동작 가변적 3D 프린팅 낙상보호패드가 통합된 팬츠의 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop protective clothing that could alleviate fall impacts. Fall impact protection pants for elderly women were designed, and motion adaptable hip pads and knee pads printed by 3D printing were integrated into the pants and evaluated. First, the design of the fall impact protection pants with variable motion was semi-loose fitting pants that could be worn and detached from the protective pad. A pad pocket was made in the lining inside the pants so that the protective pad could be fixed to the protective area. Second, in the evaluation of the appearance of the fall impact protection pants, the wearer group had a good score of 4.60 or higher for all questions on color, material, ease, and fit. In the evaluation of the insertion method of the protective pad, the flexibility of the pad, and the weight of the pad, the subjects' scores were 4.30~4.80. The fit of the fall impact protection pants was excellent in the texture and elasticity of the outside and inside of the pants. There was no discomfort due to the pad(4.60), and no difficulty in movement during wearing activities was reported. During squatting, it was evaluated as 4.80, indicating that the motion adaptable hip joint and knee pads were highly effective during operation.

Analysis on Active spring effect in human-body having redundant actuation with application to motion frequency (여유구동을 지닌 인체의 능동스프링 현상에 대한 해석과 운동주파수 제어방식으로의 적용)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze how the human body having more muscles than its degree-of-freedom modulates an effective stiffness using redundant actuation, and to apply this concept to the design and control of advanced machines which requires adaptable spring. To investigate the adaptable stiffness phenomenon due to redundant actuation in the human body, this paper derives a general stiffness model of the Human body. In particular, for a planar 1 DOF human arm model, a planar 2 DOF human arm model, a spherical 3 DOF shoulder model, a 4 DOF human arm model, and a 7 DOF human arm model, the required nonlinear geometry ad the number of required actuator for successful modulation of the effective stiffness are analyzed along with a load distribution method for modulation of the required stiffness of such systems. Secondly, the concept of motion frequency modulation is introduced to show the usefulness of adaptive stiffness modulation. The motion frequency modulation represents a control of stiffness and / or inertia properties of systems. To show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, simulations are performed for 2 DOF anthropomorphic robot.

  • This paper presents the ROBOT MODAPTS(Modular Arrangement of Predetermi- ned Time Standards) technique which can be applied to the robot motion analysis. Robot motions are easily divided into several movement activities and terminal activi- ties by means of the ROBOT MODAPTS technique Each link of robot arm is numbered such that finger is 1, hand is 2, elbow is 3, and so on. The robot motion time of each link is counted by multipling its given number to some time values observed at the finger movement. We can easily estimate robot teaching task time with this technique. This technique can be applied efficiently to establishing an adaptable robot motion ergonomically.

Design of motion-adaptable 3D printed impact protection pad (동작 가변적 3D 프린팅 충격보호패드의 설계)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a 3D mesh-type impact protection pad with excellent motion adaptability and functionality by applying 3D printing technology. The hexagonal 3D mesh, which constitutes the basic structure of the pad, comprises two types: small and large. The bridge connecting the basic units was designed as the I-type, V-type, IV-type, and VV-type. After evaluating the characteristics of the bridge, it was found that the V-type bridge had the highest flexibility and tensile elongation. The hip joint pad and knee pad were completed by combining the hexagonal 3D mesh structure with the optimal bridge design. The impact protection pad was printed using a fused deposition modeling-type 3D printer with a filament made of thermoplastic polyurethane material, and the protection pad's performance was evaluated. When an impact force of approximately 6,500N was applied to the pad, the force attenuation percentage was 78%, and when an impact force of approximately 8,000N was applied, the force attenuation percentage was 75%. Through these results, it was confirmed that the 3D-printed impact protection pad with a hexagonal 3D mesh structure connected by a V-shaped bridge developed in this study can adapt to changes in the body surface according to movement and provides excellent impact protection performance.

  • An actuator system is a type of motor designed to control a mechanism operated by a source of energy, in the form of an electric current by converting energy into some kind of motion. As audio actuators, transforming electric voltage signal into audio signal, speakers and amplifiers are commonly used. In applications of industry, high output power systems are required. For these systems to generate high-quality output, it is essential to control output impedance of audio systems. We have developed an adaptable power supply for driving active amplifier systems with variable loads. Depending on the changing values of resistance of the speaker which produces audible sound by transforming electric voltage signal, the power supply source of the active amplifier can generate the maximum power delivered to the speaker by an adaptable change of loads. The amplifier is well protected from the abrupt increment of peak current and an excess of current flow.

Development of a Low-cost Monocular PSD Motion Capture System with Two Active Markers at Fixed Distance (일정간격의 두 능동마커를 이용한 저가형 단안 PSD 모션캡쳐 시스템 개발)

  • In this paper, we propose a low-cost and compact motion capture system which enables to play motion games in PS2(Play Station 2). Recently, motion capture systems which are being used as a part in film producing and making games are too expensive and enormous systems. Now days, motion games using common USB camera are slow and have two-dimension recognition. But PSD sensor has a few good points, such as fast and low-cost. In recently year, 3D motion capture systems using 2D PSD (Position Sensitive Detector) optic sensor for motion capturing have been developed. One is Multi-PSD motion capture system applying stereo vision and another is Single-PSD motion capture system applying optical theory ship. But there are some problems to apply them to motion games. The Multi-PSD is high-cost and complicated because of using two more PSD Camera. It is so difficult to make markers having omni-direction equal intensity in Single-PSD. In this research, we propose a new theory that solves aforementioned problems. It can measure 3D coordination if separated two marker's intensity is equal to. We made a system based on this theory and experimented for performance capability. As a result, we were able to develop a motion capture system which is a single, low-cost, fast, compact, wide-angle and an adaptable motion games. The developed system is expected to be useful in animation, movies and games.

Video Coding Using Wavelet Decomposition for Very Low Bit - rate Networks (초저속 전송 네트웍을 위한 웨이브릿 변환을 이용한 비디오 코딩)

  • The video coding for very low bit-rate has recently received considerable attention, but the conventional coding schemes with block based transform suffer from the blocky effect for the constraints of limited bit-rate. In this paper, we present a video coding system based on wavelet transform and multiresolution motion estimation/compensation for very low bit-rate video. The proposed scheme uses the wavelet transform which is flexible to represent non-stationary image signals and adaptable to the human visual characteristics. The wavelet transformed coefficients are coded by various coding modes in accordance with the sum of absolute error after motion estimation/compensation in wavelet decomposed domain. And simple buffer control technique is applied to handle constant image quality. It is shown that the presented scheme has more acceptable image quality without blocky effects than conventional block based transform video coding.

A New Technique to Escape Local Minimum in Artificial Potential Field Based Path Planning

  • The artificial potential field (APF) methods provide simple and efficient motion planners for practical purposes. However, these methods have a local minimum problem, which can trap an object before reaching its goal. The local minimum problem is sometimes inevitable when an object moves in unknown environments, because the object cannot predict local minima before it detects obstacles forming the local minima. The avoidance of local minima has been an active research topic in the potential field based path planing. In this study, we propose a new concept using a virtual obstacle to escape local minima that occur in local path planning. A virtual obstacle is located around local minima to repel an object from local minima. We also propose the discrete modeling method for the modeling of arbitrary shaped objects used in this approach. This modeling method is adaptable for real-time path planning because it is reliable and provides lower complexity.

  • The paper introduces dynamic generation technique of foot trajectories using CPG(Central Pattern Generator). In this approach, the generated foot trajectories can be changeable according to variable outputs of CPG in various environments, because they are given as mapping functions of the output signals of the CPG oscillators. It enables to provide an adaptable foot trajectory for environmental change. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, experiments on humanoid robot Nao is executed in the Webot simulation. The performance and motion features of CPG based approach is analyzed.

  • This study proposes an approach to the performance improvement of EMG(Electromyogram) pattern recognition. MFCC(Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients)'s approach is molded after the characteristics of the human hearing organ. While it supplies the most typical feature in frequency domain, it should be reorganized to detect the features in EMG signal. And the dynamic aspects of EMG are important for a task, such as a continuous prosthetic control or various time length EMG signal recognition, which have not been successfully mastered by the most approaches. Thus, this paper proposes reorganized MFCC and HMM-GMM, which is adaptable for the dynamic features of the signal. Moreover, it requires an analysis on the most suitable system setting fur EMG pattern recognition. To meet the requirement, this study balanced the recognition-rate against the error-rates produced by the various settings when loaming based on the EMG data for each motion.
