In this paper, we propose efficient motion vector refinement algorithm for frame-rate reduction transcoding. The proposed algorithm is to set the search range for motion refinement based on the incoming motion vector. The algorithm calculates the importance of motion vector of the skipped frame and then selects two motion vector to set search range. Through this process, we determine the accuracy of incoming motion vector and set the search range lot refinement adaptively by means of the accuracy. In experiments, we show efficiency of our algorithm to reduce the search points for refinement.

Although most current video coding standards set a fixed motion vector resolution like quarter-pel accuracy, a scheme supporting multiple motion vector resolutions can improve the coding efficiency of video since it can allow to use just required motion vector accuracy depending on the video content and at the same time to generate more accurate motion predictor. However, the selected motion vector resolution for each motion vector is a signaling overhead. This paper proposes a contradiction testing-based signaling scheme of the motion vector resolution. The proposed method selects a best resolution for each motion vector among multiple candidates in such a way to produce the minimum amount of coded bits for the motion vector. The signaling overhead is reduced by contradiction testing that operates under a predefined criterion at both encoder and decoder with a purpose of pruning irrelevant candidate motion vector resolutions from signaling responsibility. Experimental results verified that the proposed scheme is effective in reducing coded motion information by achieving its $Bj{\o}ntegaard$ delta bit rate (BDBR) gain of about 4.01% on average (and up to 15.17%) compared to the conventional scheme with a fixed motion vector resolution.
In this paper, we propose a new algorithm that is robust against the effects of objects that are relatively unaffected by camera motion and can accurately detect camera motion even in high resolution images. First, for more accurate camera motion detection, a global motion filter based on entropy of a motion vector is used to distinguish the background and the object. A block matching algorithm is used to find exact motion vectors. In addition, a matched filter with the angle of the ideal motion vector of each block is used. Motion vectors including 4 kinds of diagonal direction, zoom in, and zoom out are added additionally. The experiment shows that the precision, recall, and accuracy of camera motion detection compared to the recent results is improved by 12.5%, 8.6% and 9.5%, respectively.

This paper proposes a new motion vector smoothing and motion compensation method to increase the frame rate of videos. The proposed method reduces false motion vector smoothing by improving the weight with reflecting accuracy to overcome the limitation of the conventional motion vector smoothing using the adaptively weighted vector median. Also, to improve the interpolated image quality of the conventional OBMC(Overlapped Block Motion Compensation), a scheme that divides an original block into 4 sub-blocks and then generates the interpolated frame using the reestimated motion vector for each sub-block is proposed. The simulation results prove that the proposed method can provide much better objective and subjective image quality than the conventional method.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive search range decision algorithm for motion vector estimation in video coding. The performance of general motion estimation method in video coding mechanism is evaluated with respect to the motion vector accuracy and the complexity, which is trade-off. The proposed algorithm that plays as a role of pre-processing for motion vector estimation determines the motion search range by the local statistics of motion vector of neighboring blocks, resulting in more than 60(%) reduction of the computational cost without the loss of visual quality. Experimental results show the capability of the proposed algorithm.
In this paper, we propose a new method for reducing the computational overhead of fine-to-coarse multi-resolution motion estimation (MRME) at the finest resolution level by searching for the region to consider motion vectors of the coarsest resolution subband. At this time, if half-pel accuracy motion estimation (HPAME) is used in the baseband where influence a lot of effect to the reconstructed image, we can have the motion vector exactly But, this method causes to higher computational overhead. So we suggest the method to the computational overhead by using selective interpolation. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm gives better results than the traditional algorithms from image quality.

The higher precision is demanded in modem manufacturing and it requires the more accurate servo controller. Cross-coupling control (CCC) has been developed to improve contouring motion. In this paper we introduce a new nonlinear CCC that is based on contour-error-vector using a parametric curve interpolator. A vector from the actual tool position to the nearest point on the desire path is directly adopted. The contour-error-vector is determined by constructing a tangential vector of nearest point on desired curve and determining the vector perpendicular to this tangential vector from the actual tool position. Moreover, the vector CCC can apply directly and easily to free-form curves include convex and concave form. The experimental results on a three-axis CNC machine center show that the present approach significantly improves motion accuracy in multi-axis motion

In this paper, a new pixel decimation algorithm for the estimation of motion vector is proposed. In traditional methods, the computational cost can be reduced since only part of the pixels are used for motion vector calculation. But these methods limits the accuracy ofmotion vector because of the same reason. We derive a selection criteria of subsampled pixels that can reduce the probablity of false motion vector detection based on stochastic point of view. By using this criteria, a new pixel decimation algorithm that can reduce the prediction error with similar computational cost is presented. The simulation results applied to standard images haveshown that the proposed algorithm has less mean absolute prediction error than conventional pixel decimation algorithm.

In this paper, we proposed two new methods of half-pel accuracy motion estimation using spatial correlation of half-pel accuracy motion vectors and stochastic characteristics between pixel accuracy motion vectors and half-pel accuracy motion vectors. We confirmed two facts : One is that the probability of having same half-pel accuracy motion vectors with neighboring blocks is high when having same pixel accuracy motion vectors. And the other is that there is high correlation between neighboring half-pel positions. These new half-pel motion estimation technique are shown to decrease the bit rates for vector coding and computational complexity with similar PSNR.
Latest digital cinema is getting more interest on recent days. The combination of visually immersive 3D movie with chair movements and other physical effects has added more enjoyment. The movement of the chair is controlled manually in these digital cinemas. By the analysis of the digital cinema's video sequences, movement of the chair can be controlled automatically. In the proposed method first of all the motion of focused object and the background is identified and then the motion vector information is extracted by using the 9-search range. The motion vector is determined only for the movement of background while the object is stationary. The extracted Motion information from the digital cinemas is used for the movement control of the chair. The experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the existing methods in terms of accuracy.
