  • Recently, the technologies related to the swash plate type oil hydraulic piston pump are requiring extreme technologies to overcome the limit of high efficiency in cope with high speed and pressure, and are devoted to compact the unit, to gain low noise level, and to adopt electronic technologies, and the question regarding to maximize the mechanical efficiency, that is, to minimize the torque loss by minimizing the leakage loss in the relative sliding region but these are in trade-off relation that tribological responding is very difficult. Cylinder block-valve pate in high speed relative sliding motion has the characteristics that should be extremely controlled for the optimization of these leakage loss and mechanical efficiency, and pressure resistance designing of them is important for high pressure performance. But, studies on the stress analysis of these parts have not been performed briskly, so in this paper the stress distribution and the region where the highest displacement appears are described through the static stress analysis using CATIA V5. Through the future studies on these theme, it has the purpose of finding the suitable materials for the other parts as well as cylinder block and valve plate, in cope with high pressure operation through the stress analysis with the most similar conditions for the practical operation.

  • Recently, DVC (Distributed Video Coding) is receiving a lot of attention as one of the low complexity video encoding techniques suitable for various applications with computation-limited and/or power-limited environment, and is being actively studied for improving the coding efficiency. This paper proposes a rate-distortion based selective block encoding scheme. First, the motion information is obtained in the process of generating side information at decoder and received through the feedback channel, and then, based on this information, the proposed method performs a selective block encoding based on rate-distortion optimization. Experimental results show that the performance of the proposed scheme reaches up to 2.2 dB PSNR gain over the existing scheme. Moreover, it is shown that the complexity can be reduced by encoding parts of region considering rate-distortion cost.

  • The transit time of contrast agents and the parameters of time-intensity curves in ultrasonography are important factors to diagnose various diseases of a digestive organ. We have implemented an automatic parametric imaging method to overcome the difficulty of the diagnosis by naked eyes. However, the micro-bubble noise and the respiratory motions may degrade the reliability of the parameter images. In this paper, we introduce an optimization technique based on MRF(Markov Random Field) model to enhance the quality of the parameter images, and present an image tracking algorithm to compensate the image distortion by respiratory motions. A method to extract the respiration periods from the ultrasound image sequence has been developed. We have implemented the ROI(Region of Interest) tracking algorithm using the dynamic weights and a momentum factor based on these periods. An energy function is defined for the Gibbs sampler of the image enhancement method. Through the experiments using the data to diagnose liver lesions, we have shown that the proposed method improves the quality of the parametric images.

  • An advanced method of Relaxed Static Stability (RSS) is utilized for improving the aerodynamic performance of modern version supersonic jet fighter aircraft. The flight control system utilize RSS criteria in both longitudinal and lateral-directional axes to achieve performance enhancements and improve stability. The T-50 advanced trainer employs the RSS concept in order to improve the aerodynamic performance and the flight control law in order to guarantee aircraft stability. The longitudinal two modes are the short period with high frequency and the phugoid mode with low frequency. The design goals of longitudinal control laws is concerned with the short period damping and frequency optimization using lower order equivalent system and utilizing the requirement of MIL-F-8785C. Analysis of short period mode has been and continues to be performed This paper addresses the analysis of aircraft phugoid node characteristics such as damping, natural frequency, and analysis of aircraft pitch motion that impacted by angle of attack limiter and auto pitch attitude control law.

  • The optimal rib pattern design of B-pillar trim considering occupant head protection can be determined by two methods. One is the conventional approximate optimization method that uses the statistical design of experiments (DOE) and response surface method (RSM). Generally, approximated optimum results are obtained through the iterative process by trial-and-error. The quality of results strongly depends on the factors and levels assigned by a designer. The other is a methodology derived from previous work by the authors, called the sequential design of experiments (SDOE), to reduce the trial-and-error procedure and to find an appropriate condition for using artificial neural network (ANN) systematically. An appropriate condition is determined from the iterative process based on the analysis of means. With this new technique and ANN, it is possible to find an optimum design accurately and efficiently.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm using Lagrange interpolation method to realize trajectory planning for torque minimization of robot manipulators. For the algorithm, position constraints of robot manipulators should be given and the stability of robot manipulators should be satisfied. In order to avoid Runge's phenomenon, we set up time interpolation points using Chebyshev interpolation points. After that, we found suitable angle which corresponds to the points and then we got trajectories of joint's angle, velocity, acceleration using Lagrange interpolation method. We selected performance index for torque consumption optimization of robot manipulator. The method went through repetitive computation process to have minimum value of the performance index by calculated trajectory. Through the process, we could get optimized trajectory to minimize torque and performance index and guarantee safety of the motion for manipulator performance.

  • In an oil hydraulic piston pump, the cylinder block and valve plate in high speed relative sliding motion have the characteristics which should be extremely controlled for the optimization of leakage and friction losses, and pressure-resistance design of them is very important for high pressure performance. But the studies on the stress analysis of those parts have not been performed briskly. Therefore, in this paper, the stress and displacement distributions of the cylinder block and valve plate in the oil hydraulic piston pump with a swash plate type are discussed through the static stress analysis using CATIA V5. The stress and displacement of the cylinder block are more influenced by the axial pressure than by the radial pressure, and are larger by approximately 66% and 30%, respectively. The results show that a review of the material and shape of the valve plate is required.

  • In this paper, a fast intermode decision scheme is introduced by efficiently performing the mode decision using statistical hypothesis testing for hierarchical B-picture coding of SVC, in which much computational power is expensed for combined variable block sizes and hierarchical B-pictures. The hypothesis testing in the proposed method is performed on $16{\times}16\;and\;8{\times}8$ blocks to have early termination for RD computation of all possible modes. The early termination in intermode decision is performed by comparing the pixel values of current blocks and corresponding motion-compensated blocks. The proposed scheme exhibits effective early termination behavior in intermode decision and leads to a significant reduction up to 69% in computational complexity with slight increment in bit amounts. The degradation of visual quality turns out to be negligible in terms of PSNR values.

  • Two gait generation methods using GP(genetic programming) and CPG(Central Pattern Generator) are compared to develop a fast locomotion for quadruped robot. GP based technique is an effective way to generate few joint trajectories instead of the locus of paw positions and lots of stance parameters. The CPGs are neural circuits that generate oscillatory output from a input coming from the brain. Optimization for two proposed methods are executed and analysed using Webots simulation for the quadruped robot which is built by Bioloid. Furthermore, simulation results for two proposed methods are experimented in real quadruped robot and performances and motion features of GP and CPG based methods are investigated.

  • In this study, we present methods to quantitatively analyze and correct the distortions and biocular parallaxes in a head-up display (HUD). To analyze asymmetrical distortions, five kinds of distortions are proposed and evaluated at five eye positions of an eyebox. The differences between distortions evaluated at the four corners of the eyebox and that at the center are defined as the relative distortions, which occur due to head motion of the driver. We also define the convergence and divergence parallaxes at six biocular positions in the eyebox to quantitatively analyze them. Using these analytical methods, we constrain the degree of biocular parallaxes and distortion changes with eye position to be small, so that an optical system nearly free from them can be obtained by optimization design for HUD optics.
