Temporal Error Concealment Using Boundary Region Feature and Adaptive Block Matching (경계 영역 특성과 적응적 블록 정합을 이용한 시간적 오류 은닉)

  • In this paper, we proposed an temporal error concealment (EC) using the proposed boundary matching method and the adaptive block matching method. The proposed boundary matching method improves the spatial correlation of the macroblocks (MBs) by reusing the pixels of the concealed MB to estimate a motion vector of a error MB. The adaptive block matching method inspects the horizontal edge and the vertical edge feature of a error MB surroundings, and it conceals the error MBs in reference to more stronger edge feature. This improves video quality by raising edge connection feature of the error MBs and the neighborhood MBs. In particular, we restore a lost MB as the unit of 8${\times}$16 block or 16${\times}$8 block by using edge feature from the surrounding macroblocks. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm gives better results than the conventional algorithms from a subjective and an objective viewpoint.

  • In tihs paper, an acceleratiion transformation algorithm which compensates the sculling error is proposed for strapdown inertial navigation system. The algorithm utilize the corss-product of the acceleromenter outputs and gyro outputs to keep the accuracy of the vehicle velocity under high frequency dynamic motion. From the error analysis of the algorithm, it is shown that the magnitude of estimation error is reduced by four orders.

Compensation of the Straightness Measurement Error in the Laser Interferometer (레이저 간섭계의 진직도 측정오차 보상)

  • The laser interferometer system such as HP5529A is one of the most powerful equipment fur measurement of the straightness error in precision stages. The straightness measurement system, HP5529A is composed of a Wollaston prism and a reflector. In this system, the straightness error is defined as relative lateral motion change between the prism and the reflector and computed from optical path difference of two polarized laser beams between these optics. However, rotating motion of the prism or the reflector used as a moving optic causes unwanted straightness error. In this paper, a compensation method is proposed for removing the unwanted straightness error generated by rotating the moving optic and an experiment is carried out for theoretical verification. The result shows that the unwanted straightness error becomes very large when the reflector is used as the moving optic and the distance between the reflector and the prism is far. Therefore, the prism must be generally used as the moving optic instead of the reflector so as to reduce the measurement error. Nevertheless, the measurement error must be compensated because it's not a negligible error if a rotating angle of the prism is large. In case the reflector must be used as the moving optic, which is unavoidable when the squareness error is measured between two axes, this compensation method can be applied and produces a better result.

  • Streaming video is expected to become a key service in the developing heterogeneous wireless network. However, sufficient quality of service is not offered to video applications because of bursty packet losses. An effective solution for packet loss in wireless network is to perform a proper concealment at the receiver. However, most concealment methods can not conceal effectively the consecutively damaged macro blocks, since the neighboring blocks are lost. In the previous work, bidirectional motion vector tracking (BMVT) method has been proposed which uses the moving trajectory feature of the damaged macro blocks. In this paper, a channel-adaptive redundancy coding method for the better BMVT error concealment is presented. The proposed method provides enhanced video quality at the cost of a little bit overhead in the wireless error-prone network.

  • In this paper, an efficient lossless compression algorithm using motion adaptation is proposed. It is divided into two parts: a motion adaptation based nonlinear predictor part and a residual data coding part. The proposed nonlinear predictor can reduce prediction error by learning from its past prediction errors using motion adaption. The predictor decides the proper selection of the intra and inter prediction values according to the past prediction error. The reduced error is coded by existing context adaptive coding method. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has the higher compression ratio than context modeling methods, such as FELICS, CALIC, and JPEG-LS.

  • The compressed video bitstream is very sensitive to transmission errors. If we lost packet or received with errors during the transmission, not only the current frame will be corrupted, but also errors will propagate to succeeding frames. Error concealment is a data recovery technique that enables the decoder to conceal effects of transmission errors by predicting the lost or corrupted video data from the previously reconstructed error free information. Motion vection recovery and motion compensation with the estimated motion vector is a good approach to conceal the corrupted macroblock data. In this paper, we prove that it is reasonable to use the estimated motion vector to conceal the lost macroblock by providing macroblock distortion models. After we propose a new motion vector recovery algorithm based on optical flow fields, we compare its performance to those of conventional error concealment methods. The proposed algorithm has smaller computational complexity than those of conventional algorithms.

  • In Fast motion estimaion algorithms, they reduce the computational complexity using the assumption that the matching error increases monotonically as the search moves away from the global minimum error In this paper, we first investigate the statistical characteristics of motion vector that the motion vector mostly occures on the side of small MAE (mean absolute error) between the reference search points when the MAE difference of them is large Therefore, we propose a fast motion estimation algorithm using this property and can reduce the number of search points The computer simulation result shows that the proposed method reduces computational complexity compared with conventional fast algorithms.

Whole Frame Error Concealment with an Adaptive PU-based Motion Vector Extrapolation and Boundary Matching (적응적인 PU 기반 움직임 벡터 외삽과 경계 정합을 통한 프레임 전체 오류 은닉 방법에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, most of the video services are usually transmitted in wireless networks. In networks environment, a packet of video is likely to be lost during transmission. For this reason, this paper proposes a new Error Concealment (EC) algorithm. For High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) bitstreams, the proposed algorithm includes Adaptive Prediction Unit-based Motion Vector Extrapolation (APMVE) and Boundary Matching (BM) algorithm, which employs both the temporal and spatial correlation. APMVE adaptively decides a Error Concealment Basic Unit (ECBU) by using the PU information of the previous frame and BM employing the spatial correlation is applied to only unreliable blocks. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm provides the higher subjective quality by reducing blocking artifacts which appear in other existing algorithms.

  • This paper analyzes the navigation error for each rotational motion in order to design an optimal rotation sequence, which is a key technology in the rotational inertial navigation. Rotational inertial navigation system is designed to cancel out navigation errors caused by inertial sensor errors by periodically rotating the inertial measurement unit. A properly sequenced rotational motion cancels out the maximum amount of navigation error and is known as an optimal rotation sequence. To design such an optimal turning procedure, this paper identifies the feasible rotational motions that can be implemented in a rotational inertial navigation system and analyzes the navigation error introduced by each rotational motion. In addition, by analyzing the characteristics of the navigation error generated during a rotation sequence in combination, this paper presents the conditions for designing an optimal rotation sequence.
