Full-search algorithm requires large amount of computation which causes time delay or very complex hardware architecture for real time implementation. In this paper, we propose a fast motion estimator based on bit-plane matching, which reduce the computational complexity and the hardware cost. In the proposed motion estimator, the conventional motion estimation algorithms are applied to the binary images directly extracted from the video sequence. Furthermore, in the proposed VLSI motion estimator, we employ a Pair of processing cores that calculate the motion vector continuously By controlling the data flow in a systolic fashion using the internal shift registers in the processing cores, we avoid using SRAM (local memory) so that we remove the time overhead for accessing the local memory and adopt lower-cost fabrication technology. We modeled and tested the proposed motion estimator in VHDL, and then synthesized the whole system which has been integrated in a 0.6-$\mu$m triple-metal CMOS chip of size 8.15 X 10.84$\textrm{mm}^2$.
This study developed and evaluated the motion control of 3D printed fingers applied to smart gloves. Four motions were programmed by assembling the module using the Arduino program: cylindrical grasping, spherical grasping, tip-to-tip pinch gripping, and three-jaw pinch gripping. Cap and re-entrant (RE) strip types were designed to model the finger. Two types of modeling were printed using filaments of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). The prepared samples were evaluated using three types of pens for cylidrical grasping, three types of balls for spherical grasping, and two types of cards for tip-to-tip pinch gripping and three-jaw pinch gripping. The motion control of fingers was connected using five servo motors to the number of each control board. Cylindrical and spherical grasping were moved by controlling the fingers at 180° and 150°, respectively. Pinch gripping was controlled using a tip-to-tip pinch motion controlled by the thumb at 30° and index-middle at 0° besides a three-jaw pinch motion controlled by the thumb-index finger-middle at 30°, 0°, and 0°, respectively. As a result of the functional evaluation, the TPE of 3D-printed fingers was more flexible than those of TPU. RE strip type of 3D-printed fingers was more suitable for the motion control of fingers than the 3D-printed finger.
This work verifies the chaotic motion of a steer-by-wire vehicle dynamic system, and then elucidates an application of dither smoothing to control the chaos of a vehicle model. The largest Lyapunov exponent is estimated from the synchronization to identify periodic and chaotic motions. Then, a bifurcation diagram reveals complex nonlinear behaviors over a range of parameter values. Finally, a method for controlling a chaotic vehicle dynamic system is proposed. This method involves applying another external input, called a dither signal, to the system. The designed controller is demonstrated to work quite well for nonlinear systems in achieving robust stability and protecting the vehicle from slip or spin. Some simulation results are presented to establish the feasibility of the proposed method.
Recently, there are lots of concerning on the integration of robot and virtual reality with the trends of the research of intelligent robot and mined reality. In this paper, a 3D GUI system is proposed based on Internet for remote controlling and monitoring of agent robot working for itself. The proposed system is consists of a manager ordering a new position and displaying the motion of robot, an agent robot moving to the destination according to the indication, a positioning module detecting the current position of robot, and a geographical information module. A user can order the robot agent move to a new position in a virtual space and watch the real images captured from the real sites of the robot. Then, the agent robot moves to the position automatically with avoiding collision by using range finding and a path detection algorithm. We demonstrate the proposed 3D GUI system is supporting a more convenient remote control means far the robots.
This study examines the controlling role of synoptic disturbances on $PM_{10}$ spring variability in the Korean Peninsula by using empirical orthogonal function (EOF) and back trajectory analyses. Three leading EOF modes are identified, and a lead-lag analysis suggests that $PM_{10}$ variabilities be closely related to the synoptic weather systems. The first EOF shows the spatially homogeneous distribution of $PM_{10}$, which is influenced by travelling anticyclonic disturbance with negative precipitation and descending motion. The second and third modes exhibit the dipole structures of $PM_{10}$, being associated with propagating cyclones. Furthermore, the back-trajectory analysis suggests that the transport of pollutants by anomalous winds associated with synoptic disturbances also contribute to the altered $PM_{10}$ concentration. Hence, a substantial synoptic control should be considered in order to fully understand the $PM_{10}$ spatiotemporal variability.
Size, velocity, and time equivalence are mechanisms that allow us to perceive objects in three-dimensional space consistently, despite errors on the two-dimensional retinal image. These mechanisms work on common cues, suggesting that the perception of motion distance, motion speed, and motion time may share common processing. This can lead to the hypothesis that, despite the spatial nature of visual stimuli distorting temporal perception, the perception of motion speed and the perception of motion duration will tend to oppose each other, as observed for objects moving in the environment. To test this hypothesis, the present study measured perceived speed using Müller-Lyer illusion stimulus to determine the relationship between the time-perception consequences of motion stimuli observed in previous studies and the speed perception measured in the present study. Experiment 1 manipulated the perceived motion trajectory while controlling for the retinal motion trajectory, and Experiment 2 manipulated the retinal motion trajectory while controlling for the perceived motion trajectory. The result is that the speed of the inward stimulus, which is perceived to be shorter, is estimated to be higher than that of the outward stimulus, which is perceived to be longer than the actual distance traveled. Taken together with previous time perception findings, namely that time perception is expanded for outward stimuli and contracted for inward stimuli, this suggests that when the perceived trajectory of a stimulus manipulated by the Müller-Lyer illusion is controlled for, perceived speed decreases with increasing duration and increases with decreasing duration when the perceived distance of the stimulus is constant. This relationship suggests that the relationship between time and speed perceived by spatial cues corresponds to the properties of objects moving in the environment, i.e, an increase in time decreases speed and a decrease in time increases speed when distance remains the same.

In order to achieve high coding efficiency, H.264/AVC video coding standard adopts the techniques such as variable block size coding, motion estimation with quarter-pel precision, multiple reference frames, rate-distortion optimization, and etc. However, these coding methods have a defect to greatly increase the complexity for motion estimation. Particularly, from multiple reference frame motion estimation, the computational burden increases in proportion to the number of the searched reference frames. Therefore, we propose the method to reduce the complexity by controlling the number of the searched reference frames in motion estimation. Proposed algorithm uses the optimal reference frame information in both $P16{\times}16$ mode and the adjacent blocks, thus omits unnecessary searching process in the rest of inter modes. Experimental results show the proposed method can save an average of 57.31% of the coding time with negligible quality and bit-rate difference. This method also can be adopted with any of the existing motion estimation algorithm. Therefore, additional performance improvement can be obtained.
This article describes the time delay control of the 3-dimensional motion of the container cranes used in dockside container terminals. The container is suspended by four flexible cables via spreader, and due to the disturbances such as the wind and acceleration of cranes, the container undergoes translational(sway) and rotational position errors. And due to the uncertainty of weight and rotational inertia, accurate position control of container crane is difficult to realize. This paper, based on the analysis of 3-dimensional dynamics of container moving systems, develops time delay control algorithm [1]. The developed control algorithm is shown effective in controlling the container position in the presence of gust and parameter uncertainties.

In this paper, we propose a method for compliance control of a SCARA type 2-freedom direct drive(DD) manipulator. Each joint of the manipulator is driven by a travelling ultrasonic motor(USM). The travelling USM has good some characteristics over conventional servo motors such as compact size, light weight, silent motion, high torque and high speed response. By controlling the elasticity and viscosity of robot joints, a robot can work in compliance with external environment. we control the elastic coefficient and the viscous coefficient of joint by adjusting the phase difference of the motor power. And we contemplate transient response of USM with adjusting the elastic coefficient and the viscous coefficient. To use the result, we can control the robot to reach its goal with compliance motion. It remains for further research to develop the impedance control of USM.

The ionic-polymer-metal-composite actuators have the best merit for bio-mimetic locomotion because of their large bending performance. Especially, they have the advantage for mimicking a fish-like motion because IPMCs are useful to be actuated in water. So we have developed IPMC actuators with multiple electrodes for realization of biomimetic motion. This actuator is fabricated by combining electroless plating and electroplating techniques capable of patterning precisely and controlling a thickness of Pt electrode layer. The FRF analysis was conducted by a mechanical shaker and direct electrical excitation which is based on sweep sine wave function. From this result, the proper young‘s modulus of Platinum was investigated and applied on expecting the vibration characteristics of patterned IPMC actuator. The calculated maximum displacement of the patterned IPMC was 2.32mm under an applied 4mN/mm. The natural frequency was increased however displacement was decreased in according to increase a thickness of Pt.
