In this paper we proposed an efficient multiresolution motion estimation(MRME) algorithm using half-pixel accuracy motion estimation (HPAME) and characteristics of motion vectors in the baseband. Conventional MRME method needs exact motion vectors in the baseband because those are used as initial motion vectors in higher frequency subbands. Therefore the proposed method uses HPAME to estimate the motion vectors exactly in the baseband. Based on the characteristics of these motion vectors the motion vectors in the higher frequency subbands are selectively estimatied. That is motion vectors in the higher frequency subbands are estimated only for the blocks which have the half-pixel accuracy motion vectors in the baseband. In the proposed method by using HPAME in the baseband and selective motion estimation in the higher frequency subbands we can obtain reconstructed image with the similar quality with the conventional method though we reduce the computational complexity and the bit rate considerably.
This paper extends and enhances the existing inverse kinematics technique using the concept of motion characteristic capturing. Motion characteristic capturing is not about measuring motion by tracking body points. Instead, it starts from pre-measured motion data, extracts the motion characteristics, and applies them in animating other bodies. The resulting motion resembles the originally measured one in spite of arbitrary dimensional differences between the bodies. Motion characteristics capturing is a new principle in kinematic motion generalization to process measurements and generate realistic animation of human being or other living creatures.
A motion-control chip contains major functions that are necessary to control the position of each motor, such as generating velocity command profiles, reading motor positions, producing control signals, driving several types of servo amplifiers, and interfacing host processors. Existing motion-control chips can only generate velocity profiles of fixed characteristics, typically linear and s-shape smooth symmetric curves. But velocity profiles of these two characteristics are not optimal for all tasks in industrial robots and automation systems. Velocity profiles of other characteristics are preferred for some tasks. This paper proposes a motion-control chip to generate velocity profiles of desired acceleration and deceleration characteristics. The proposed motion-control chip is implemented with a field-programmable gate array by using the Very High-Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language and Handel-C. Experiments using velocity profiles of four different characteristics will be performed.
The purpose of this study is to understand motion characteristics of older drivers during reaching seat belt compared to young drivers and to provide design guidelines in order to reduce discomfort for the elderly. The whole body kinematics of each subject was captured using 12-camera motion analysis system. Subjective ratings on discomfort levels were obtained simultaneously using a questionnaire. This paper first presents the result of motion characteristics of elderly drivers' reach motion to seat belt. Compared to young drivers, older drivers performed seat belt reach motions less efficiently and moved slower due to mostly the movement error. Older drivers also made use of reduced joint range of motion in cervical left rotation, lumbar left rotation and right shoulder adduction, which can be explained by their reduced active range of motions (AROMs). To compensate for their reduced joint range of motion, older drivers rotated pelvis more.
Seismic motion amplification owing to the input motion level at bedrock is one of the important topics to understand various geomaterials behavior. The extremely valuable borehole records at Port Island were obtained during the 1995 Hyogoken Nanbu Earthquake and also before and after the main event. In this study, the seismic motion amplification at the soft reclaimed ground was discussed. Comparison of measured records with numerical simulation results were made with focus on seismic motion amplification characteristics at the soft reclaimed ground.
This paper presents a motion planning algorithm of autonomous racing vehicles for mimicking the characteristics of a human driver. Time optimal maneuver of a race car has been actively studied as a major research area over the past decades. Although the time optimization problem yields a single time series solution of minimum time maneuver inputs for the vehicle, human drivers achieve similar lap times while taking various racing lines and velocity profiles. In order to model the characteristics of a specific driver and reproduce the motion, a stochastic motion planning framework based on kernelized motion primitive is introduced. The proposed framework imitates the behavior of the generated reference motion, which is based on a small number of human demonstration laps along the racetrack using Gaussian mixture model and Gaussian mixture regression. The mean and covariance of the racing line and velocity profile mimicking the driver are obtained by accumulating the outputs tested at equidistantly sampled input points. The results confirmed that the obtained lateral and longitudinal motion simulates the driver's driving characteristics, which are feasible for actual vehicle test environments.
The purpose of this research is to examine precise linear motion and rotary motion. A six-degrees-of-freedom fine motion mechanism is introduced to drive an object precisely in directions of X, Y and Z-axes and around them : three rectangular linear motion and rotary ones. An experimental mechanism is introduced in which a $70$\times$70$\times$70$\times$(${mm}^3$) cube object is driven by six PZT actuator. The study is to establish the six-degrees-of-freedom fine motion mechanism of linear motion and rotary motion using PZT actuator.

With the development of films, games and animation industry, analysis and reuse of human motion capture data become more and more important. Human motion segmentation, which divides a long motion sequence into different types of fragments, is a key part of mocap-based techniques. However, most of the segmentation methods only take into account low-level physical information (motion characteristics) or high-level data information (statistical characteristics) of motion data. They cannot use the data information fully. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised framework using both low-level physical information and high-level data information of human motion data to solve the human segmentation problem. First, we introduce the algorithm of CFSFDP and optimize it to carry out initial segmentation and obtain a good result quickly. Second, we use the ACA method to perform optimized segmentation for improving the result of segmentation. The experiments demonstrate that our framework has an excellent performance.

Although motion impression is weak with isoluminant color stimuli, it has been shown that color signals influence motion perception. We discuss similarities and differences between color motion and luminance motion, focusing on temporal characteristics of the perception of the 2D and 3D motion.
