The purpose of this study was to explore a causal model of mother's parenting and children's locus of control to self-control in elementary school children. The subjects were 582 children of 4th, 5th and 6th grade. The instruments were Self-Control Rating Scale for Children, Locus of Control Scale for Children and Parenting Scale. The major findings of this study were as follows. 1) Children's locus of control, mother's warmth-acceptance and permissiveness-nonintervention , mother's education level and children's sex predicted children's self-control. 23% of the variance of children's self-control was explainer by these variables. 2) Mother's warmth-acceptance had a direct and an indirect positive effect through children's locus of control on children's self-control and was the first contribution factor. Children's locus of control had a first direct effect on children's self-control. 3) Mother's permissiveness-nonintervention had a direct and an indirect negative effect through children's locus of control on children's self-control. Mother's education level had a direct and an indirect effect through children's locus of control on children's self-control. Children's sex had a direct and an indirect effect through mother's rejection-restriction on children's self-control. Mother's rejection-restriction had an indirect effect through children's locus of control on children's self-control. Family income had an indirect effect through mother's parenting on children's self-control. Father's education level had an indirect effect through mother's permissiveness-nonintervention on children's self-control.
The purpose of this study was to analyze a causal relationship of children's behavior problem and the related variables(socio-economic status mother's psychological problem mother's affective parenting behavior children's negative emotionality and children's self-control). The major findings of this study were as follows: 1) Socio-economic status had indirect in influence to children's behavior problem via mother's psychological problem and mother's affective parenting behavior. 2) Mother's psychological problem had direct influence and also indirect influence to hildren's behavior problem via mother's affective parenting behavior and children's negative emotionality. 3) Mother's affective parenting behavior and children's negative emotionality had a direct effect on children's behavior problem and affected indirectly via children's self-control. 4) Children's self-control had direct influence to children's behavior problem. 5) Mother's psychological problem was the most signi icant variable affecting children's behavior problem.
The Purpose of this study was to examine the predictive capacity of mother's perception of the family environment (cohesion, expressiveness, conflict, mother's psychosocial competence) for children's social competence. The hypotheses of this reserch were 1) There will be significant positive relationships among mother's cohesion, expressiveness, and mother's psychosocial competence. 2) There will be significant negative relationships between mother's conflict and measures of children's social competence. 3) There will not be a significant relationships between SES and measures of children's social competence. 4) There will be significant relationships between children's gender and measures of children's social competence. The subjects of this study were 133 family of mother-child. The period of research was from Aug. 20, 1990 to Feb. 29, 1992. Correlations, t-test, F-test, and multiple regression analyses were conducted to determine the relationships among variables and measures of total sample, daughter sample, and son sample. The results of this study appeared as follow: 1. Family environment (cohesion, expressiveness, and conflict) and mother's psychosocial competence were related to children's social competence. 2. There were negative relationship between mother's conflict and daughter's social competence. 3. Daughters had the higher social competence than sons. 4. Socioeconomic status(perceived by mother) of family was not related to children's social competence. 5. Sociodemographic variables affecting to children's competence were mother's school career, mother's age, mother's religion.
This study examines the relationship between a mother's psychological well-being and children's problematic behavior(withdrawal, depression anxiety, aggression and emotional instability). In order to expand the study on the relationships, special attention was given to the possible mediator effects of mother's coping style with children's negative emotions. The subjects were 305 mothers with children 4-5 years old residing in the cities of Cheonan and Seongnam. It was found that mother's psychological well-being was significantly related to the level of children's withdrawal, depression anxiety, aggression and emotional instability. The mother's coping style with children's negative emotions were also significantly related to the mother's psychological well-being. In addition the mother's coping style with children's negative emotions was found to be a significant mediator of the relationship between mother's psychological well-being and children's. This was especially so for internal problems behavior as like withdrawal, depression anxiety and emotional instability that were perfectly mediated by the mother's coping style with children's negative emotions. Aggression, external problems behavior was partially mediated by the mother's coping style.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between mother's beliefs on child rearing and children's self-perceptions. The subject of this study were comprised of 167 children aged 8-10 in Iksan & Kunsan city from Dec. 2 to Dec. 8, 2000. The children's self-perceptions were assessed by the self perceptions profile for children. Mother's beliefs questionnaire, developed by Okagaki and Sternberg, was used to obtain the data on mother's beliefs of parenting. The methods of analyses included basic descriptive categorical analysis as well as t-test, one way ANOVA-test, and multiple regression analyses. The major findings from the analyses are as follows: First, a significant difference was found in the degree of mother's beliefs about child rearing by mother's religion(p<.01), mother's education(p<.05), income(p<.001), level of life (p<.0l), mother's job, mother and fathers' agreement of child rearing(p<.05), relationship between mother and child(p<.05) in independence but a significant difference was not found in the degree of mother's beliefs about child rearing in accommodation. Second, the levels of children's scholastic performance were related to higher levels of mother's education(p<.001), mother's income(p<.001), mother and fathers' agreement of child rearing(p<.01). The levels of children's social competence was related to higher, child's gender (p<.01); girls were higher than boys. The levels of children's athletic abilities were not significant. The levels of children's physical appearance was related to higher levels of mother's education(p<.01), mother's income(p<.01), level of life(p<.05), mother's marriage(not divorce)(p<.01). The levels of children's behavioral conduct were related to higher levels of child's gender (p<.05), mother's education(p<.01), mother's income (p<.01), relationship between father and child(p<.0l). The levels of children's global self worth were related to higher levels of mother's age(p<.05), mother's education(p<.001), level of life(p<.05). Third according to the multiple regression analyses for the relationships between mother's beliefs about child rearing and children's self perceptions, mother's beliefs on the creativity were related to higher levels of children's scholastic performance, social competence, and mother's beliefs on the problem solving skills to higher levels of children's behavioral conduct and mother's beliefs on the accommodation to lower levels of children's scholastic performance, social conduct.
This study investigated the relationship between mother's verbal control modes and children's social competency, the relationship between mother's verbal control modes and children's internal-external control, and the relationship between children's internal-external control and children's social competency. The subjects of this study were 157 boys and 144 girls attending elementary schools and their mothers in Busan. Lee's(1993) questionnaire on mother's verbal control modes, the modified version of Nowicki and Strickland's CN-SIE on internal-external control and Choi's(1992) questionnaire on social competence were used. The results were as follows: 1) The mothers control their children mostly by position-oriented mode. And mother's imperative mode for boys differed significantly from that for girls. Boys perceived mother's verbal control mode as more imperative. 2) There were significant negative correlations between mother's imperative mode and boy's social competency, between mother's imperative mode and boy's anxiety, and between mother's imperative mode and boy's internal-external control and boy's social competency, and between boy's internal-external control and boy's leadership. There were significant correlations between mother's position-oriented mode and girl's leadership, between mother's position-oriented mode and girl's, affection on parents, between mother's position-oriented mode and girl's internal-external control. There were significant negative correlations between girl's internal-external control and girl's anxiety. 3) Children's internal-external control was the predictor variable influencing on children' social competency, children's leadership. Children's sex was the predictor variable influencing on children' anxiety. And the mother's imperative mode and the mother's position-oriented mode were the predictor variables influencing on children' affection on parents.

The subjects were 86 children of 5-and 6-year=olds, and their mothers and leachers. The instruments were TSCRS, MFFT, Self-concept inventory and Parenting scale. The major findings of this study were as follows; (1) Children's reflection, social self-concept and mother's control parenting predicted children's self-control. 20% of the valiance of children's self-control was explained by these variables. (2) Children's reflection was the first contribution factor and had a direct positive effect on children's self-control. Children's social self-concept had a direct positive effect on children's self-control. Mother's control parenting had a direct negative effect on children's self-control. (3) Mother's affect parenting had an indirect positive effect through children's reflection and social self-concept on children's self-control. Children's sex had indirect effect through mother's control and affect parenting on children's self control. Children's age had indirect effect through children's reflection and mother's control parenting on children's self-control.
This paper examined the effects of children's interests and attitudes toward mother's native culture and use of mother's native language on satisfaction of the mother-child relationship in multi-cultural families. Data from the 2012 National Survey of Multi-cultural Families demonstrate that for children aged between 9 and 12 years, their fluency and desire to speak well in the mother's native language as well as father's encouragement for using the mother's native language at home were positively associated with satisfaction of the mother-child relationship. For those aged between 13 and 18 years, mother's nationality (i.e. Southeast or South Asia) was negatively related with mother-child relationship satisfaction. Both mother's and children' communication skills, children's interests in mother's native culture, pride for mother being a foreigner, and desire to speak well in the mother's native language were positively associated with mother-child relationship satisfaction. Therefore, there is a need for foreign wives to be educated in Korean language and culture as well as opportunities for children to learn their mother's native culture and language.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between mother's occupational background, their role satisfaction, and their young children's social competence. The subjects of this study were 360 working mothers having 3 to 6-year-old children and 56 teachers of the children drawn from 8 preschools and 7 kindergartens in Cheongju city. The results obtained from this study were summarized as follows : First, mother's occupational background was significantly different according to mother's age, educational level, job type, mother's income, family finances and the existence of a supporter for bringing up children. Second, mother's role satisfaction was significantly different according to mother's income and the existence of a supporter for bringing up children. Third, children's social competence was significantly different according to children's sex, age, mother's age, educational level, job type, mother's income and family finances. Finally, there were significantly meaningful correlations between mother's occupational background, their role satisfaction, and their young children's social competence.
The purpose of this study was to examine the children's adjustment according to the their problems and problem solving pattern in single mother. The data of this study were abtained from 186 children of single-mother. For analysis of data, Factor analysis, t-test, One-way ANOVA, pearson's correlation, Multiple regression were used The results are as follows; 1. The children's problem are composed seven factors that are house life, emotion, school life, peer-relationships, academic achievement, finicial, future life. The family structural variables to have relationship with the children's problem are age, sex, father's absence reason, SES, mother postering attitude. 2. The mean value of children's problem solving pattern such as seeking religion support and passive appraisal was highest. The children's problem solving pattern were affected by mother's fostering attitude. 3. The inadequacy among children in single-mother was related to mother fostering attitude after father's loss, children's problem and children's problem solving pattern that emphasizes the interdependence of each element in this children's adjustment network.
