Determination of Monocrotophos Residues by HPLC

  • An analytical method was developed to determine monocrotophos residues in apple, citrus, and soil using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with ultraviolet absorption detection. Monocrotophos was extracted with acetone from apple, citrus and moist soil samples. The extract was concentrated, added with saline water, and subjected to n-hexane washing to remove nonpolar co-extractives. Dichloromethane partition was then followed to recover monocrotophos from the aqueous phase. Silica gel column chromatography was employed to further purify the extract prior to HPLC determination. Reverse-phase HPLC using an oct-adecylsilyl column was successfully applied to separate and quantitate the monocrotophos residue in sample extracts at the wavelength of 230 nm. Overall recoveries of monocrotophos from fortified samples averaged $95.3{\pm}2.1%$ (n=6), $970{\pm}0.7%$ (n=6), and $92.8{\pm}4.3%$ (n=12) for apple, citrus, and soil, respectively. The proposed method was quite reproducible and sensitive enough to replace the troublesome gas-liquid chromatographic analysis for monocrotophos residues.

제주도 연안 해양환경 중 유기린계 농약의 잔류 (Residue of Organophosphorus Pesticides in the Coastal Environment on the Cheju Island)

  • To study the residue of organophosphorus pesticides in the ocean environment on the Cheju island, EPN[O-ethyl-O-4-nitrophenyl phenylphosphonothioate] and monocrotophos [Dimethyl-1-methyl-2-methyl carba-moylvinylphosphate] of organophosphorus pesticides are surveyed on coastal environment of Cheju city and Wimi in May and October 1996. The qualified limit detection of EPN and monocrotophos are 0.005ng/mL and 0.006ng/mL in the water by GC-FPD, respectively. The qualified limit detection of EPN and monocrotophos are 0.010ng/g and 0.012ng/g in the solid such as sediment and sea organism by GC-FPD, respectively. EPN and monocrotophos are not detected in seawater and sedimnet. Moreover EPN and monocrotophos are neither detected in seaweed cava (Ecklonia cava), Agar (Gelidium amansii), turban sell(Batillus cornutus) and sea urchin(Anthocidaris Crassispina). EPN, monocrotophos used in the farm on the Cheju island are not residued in the coastal environment in the Cheju island.

Monocrotophos induced inhibition of the activities of testis and accessory reproductive organs in male mice

  • Monocrotophos was administered orally to adult male albino mice at dose level of 3.0 mg/kg body weight/day/mice for 50 days. The treatment has found to affect spermatogenesis as well as the endocrine functions of the testis as indicated by gravimetric, histopathological and biochemical changes. The treatment has caused degenerative changes in the seminiferous tubules and Leydig cells of the testis and regression of the epididymis, seminal vesicle, vas deferens, prostate, Cowper's gland and levator ani. Similarly, cauda epididymal sperm count and sperm motility have shown significant reduction. There was a significant reduction in the protein, glycogen, sialic acid, acid and alkaline phosphatase and increase in cholesterol in the testis of monocrotophos treated mice compared with the control. The causative factors for these changes due to monocrotophos administration were discussed.

Effect of Lambda Cyhalothrin (Pyrethroid) and Monocrotophos (Organophosphate) on Cholinesterase Activity in Liver, Kidney and Brain of Rana cyanophlyctis

  • The present studies investigate the induced effects of two pesticides lambda cyhalothrin (pyrethroid) and monocrotophos (organophosphate) on Rana cyanophlyctis (common skittering frog). Two different concentrations i.e. 0.1 and 1% were used and cholinesterase activity was observed in liver, kidney and brain of these frogs. It was decreased upto 34.6 and 46.3% in liver, 25.08 and 57.1% in kidney and 31.64 and 50.7% in brain under the effect of lambda cyhalothrin. In the case of monocrotophos treatment, cholinesterase decreased upto 37.7 and 57.7% in liver,57.5 and 67.5% in kidney and 47.6 and 65.9% in brain, respectively.

  • 4종류(種類)의 살충제(殺蟲劑)(monocrotophos, diazinon(유기인계(有機燐系)), carbofuran, BPMC(carbamates계(系)) 중 두 약제(藥劑)를 택하여 1대 1 비율로 섞은 6가지 혼합제(混合劑) 조합(組合)들에 대한 협력작용(協力作用)을 보이는 조합(組合)을 발견하기 위하여 벼멸구(Nilaparvata lugens)와 끝동매미충(Nephotettix virescens)을 공시하여 실험을 수행하였다. 1. 벼멸구에 대하여는 carbofuran과 diazinon 조합(組合) 및 BPMC와 carbofuran 조합(組合)이 협력작용계수(協力作用係數) 200정도로 효과적이었다. 2. 끝동매미충(N. virescens)에 대하여는 diazinon과 monocrotophos 조합(組合)이 협력작용(協力作用) 계수(係數) 234로 효과적이었다. 3. 여타의 조합(組合)들은 독립용작(獨立用作)내지 부가작용을 보였다.

Monocrotophos poisoning in wild mallards (Anas platyrhynchos)

  • The toxicity of organophosphate arises from disruption of the nervous system due to the inhibition of cholinesterase enzymes, leading to death. Six dead mallards were found at Ansung where is one of the most popular wintering sites for migratory birds in Korea, and requested for diagnosis to Gyeonggi Veterinary Service on January of 2007. Some examinations including polymerase chain reaction (PCR) could not find any evidence of specific disease condition. However, the contents of gastrointestinal tracts of the birds contained residues of monocrotophos ranged from 31.3ppm to 294.3ppm by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. It can be supposed that monocroptophos was responsible for the death of mallards by this results.

솔잎혹파리의 약제방제에 관한 연구 -고농도미량엽면살포- (Chemical Control of the Pine Gall Midges (Thecodiplosis japonensis Uchida et Inouye) ( I ) -Low-volume Foliar Spray of the Insecticides-)

  • Salithioll $(25\%\;Ec)$, Omethoate $(Folimat^{(R)}\;50\%\;Ec)$, Monocrotophos $(Azodrin^{(R)}24\%\;Ec)$, Acephate $(Ortran^{(R)}50\%\;Wp)$, Metalkamate $(Bux^{(R)}24\%\;Ec)$, BPMC $(Bassa\;50\%\;Ec)$, 및 MIPC $(Mipcin^{(R)}\;50\%\;Wp)$를 100배, 200배, 400배액으로 희석하여 5월 9일 5월 24일, 6월 6일, 6월 20일, 7월 17일, 7월 17일에 각각 1회씩 고농도 미량 엽면살포를 실시하여 솔잎혹파리 방제에 관한 시험을 실시하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. (1) 솔잎혹파리의 약제방제효과는 약제의 종류, 농도 및 살포시기에 따라 현저한 차이가 있었다. Salithion, Omethoate, Monocrotorhos, Metalkamate순으로 솔잎혹파리의 방제효과가 있었으나 그 밖에 약제들은 방제효과가 낮거나 없었다. (2) 100배액에서는 방제효과가 높였으나 농도가 낮어 짐에 따라 방제효과가 현저히 낮었다. (3) 방제효과면에서나 잔효력면에서 볼 때 Salithion이 가장 좋았다. Salithion은 5월 9일에서 7월 1일 사이에 1회 엽면살포로서 솔잎혹파리의 방제가 가능하였다. 그 밖에 Omethoate, Monocrotophos, Metalkamate는 Salithion에 비하여 방제효과가 낮을 뿐만 아니라 잔효력이 짧었다. (4) 100배액 살포에 있어서는 Omethoate, Salithion의 순으로 피해량적엽이 많었다. (피해량적엽이란 솔잎은 위축되었으나 충영을 형성치 못하고 부화유충에의한 피해양적만 남아 있는 잎을 말함) (5) 충영내 유충의 밀도는 약제의 종류, 농도에 따라 현저한 차이가 있었다. Omethoate, Salithion처리에서 충영내 유충밀도가 낮었다. 농도가 낮어짐에 따라 충영당 유충의 밀도가 높아지는 경향을 보였다. 충영내유충의 밀도는 7월 15, 7월 17일 처리에서만 조사 되었는데 처리시기간에는 차이를 인정할 수 없었다.

제주도 연안 해양환경 중에서 유기인계 농약의 잔류 (Residue of the Organophosphorus Pesticides in the Coastal Environment on the Cheju island)

  • 제주도 연안의 수산물 생산력 향상을 위해서는 연안 해양환경 보전이 무엇보다 중요하다. 특히 골프장의 농약 오염원이 연안환경과 수산생물에 미치는 영향을 규명할 필요가 있다. 따라서 제주도의 농업 오염물질 중 유기인계 농약에 의한 연안해역의 오염을 규명하고자, 1997년 7월과 8월에 남제주도에 위치한 중문골프장에 인접한 색달동과 대포동 근해 해양환경시료에서 monocrotophos와 EPN 유기 인계 농약 잔류를 조사하였다. GC-FPD에 의한 monocrotophos와 EPN의 시료중 최소 검출농도는 동·식물의 고체시료에서는 0.024 ng/g, 0.020 ng/g이었다. 또한 해수에서는 각각 0.012 ng/mL, 0.010 ng/mL이었다. 식물시료인 우뭇가사리와 미역, 동물시료인 소라와 성게에 대한 유기인계 농약의 잔류량 조사 결과 모든 시료에서 monocrotophos와 EPN이 검출되지 않았다. Monocrotophos와 EPN은 색달동과 대포동에서의 해수와 저니토에서도 검출되지 않았으며, 이러한 결과는 7월, 8월에서도 동일하였다. 따라서 남제주도 중문골프장 근해 해양 환경 중에서는 monocrotophos와 EPN의 유기인계 농약오염은 없는 것으로 나타났다.

Heterostructured Nanophotocatalysts for Degradation of Organophosphate Pesticides from Aqueous Streams

  • The present paper focuses on the synthesis, characterization and application of nanophotocatalyst for degradation of quinalphos and monocrotophos. Novel heterostructured ZnO/$TiO_2$ photocatalyst ($Z_9T$) was prepared and characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), SEM and UV-vis diffuses reflectance spectroscopy. The average crystalline size of synthesized $Z_9T$ was found to be 21.48 nm. The pesticides were degraded in the presence of nanophotocatalysts i.e., $TiO_2$, ZnO, $TiO_2$/ZnO mixed in various proportions and heterostructured nanophotocatalyst synthesized by Sol-Gel method. The batch experiments were performed by adding photocatalyst to 100 ml of pesticide solution and suspension was subjected to irradiation under UV light. In case of mixed catalyst, the maximum degradation of monocrotophos and quinalphos has been observed when ZnO and $TiO_2$ were in the ratio of 7:3 and 8:2 respectively. The degradation efficiency with synthesized heterostructured nanophotocatalyst ($Z_9T$) was found to be comparable with $TiO_2$.
