  • A combined PC and TV monitor has been developed in several companies. The characteristics of physical user interface in this monitor are likely to vary from existing monitors. Therefore, two experiments to investigate the physical interface characteristics of this monitor were conducted. The first experiment was to investigate the characteristics of color perception with monitor coating (coating vs. non-coating) and screen brightness (30fL vs. 35fL) in the PC mode. The second experiment was to investigate the characteristics of luminance contrast with monitor coating and image movement (static vs. dynamic) in the TV mode. Twenty-three subjects (male 12, female 11) were participated in this experiment. In the first experiment, average color temperatures were obtained in all experimental conditions. There was a significant difference between coating and non-coating screen at 0.1 level. In the second experiment, average luminance contrasts were obtained in all experimental conditions. There was a significant difference between coating and non-coating screen at 0.05 level. In addition, there was a significant difference between static picture and dynamic picture at 0.1 level.

  • The educational benefits and potential of XR as a new medium are well recognized. However, there are still limitations in understanding the specific effects of XR compared to the more widely utilized representation of images on computer monitors. This study therefore aims to demonstrate the differences in effectiveness between the two technologies and to draw implications from a cognitive comparison of three-dimensional objects represented on a flat surface and virtually. The study was conducted a quantitative research method with an experiment involving two independent groups, and the results were tested using regression analysis. The results showed that for low-level, two-dimensional objects, the computer monitor method may be more effective, but above a certain level of complexity, the effectiveness of learning through the monitor tends to decrease rapidly. On the other hand, the group that used extended reality technology showed relatively high comprehension compared to the monitor group even as the complexity increased, and in particular, unlike the monitor group's rapidly decreasing comprehension level, the extended reality technology group showed a trend of decreasing comprehension with the level of complexity, suggesting the potential for compatibility and predictability in the use of technology.

  • In this paper, we propose Total RMS(Radiation Monitoring System) for nuclear and nuclear medicine. The proposed system can expand and control Stack Monitor, Area Monitor, and Water(Liquid) Monitor into one system, and can monitor the signals measured by each radiation detector in an integrated manner. The proposed system consists of a sensor module that detects the radiation, a display unit that displays the radiation dose near the radiation detection location, an alarm unit that reports the alarm when the detected radiation dose reaches the danger level, A Main Hub for collecting and storing the contents to the remote monitoring system, and an RMS Monitoring Unit for clearly displaying the measured radiation dose at the remote site. In order to evaluate the performance of Total RMS for the proposed nuclear and nuclear medicine field, it is confirmed that the measurement uncertainty is less than 8.5% and it operates normally within ${\pm}15%$ of the international standard.

  • Ozone monitor based on UV techniques has been widely used due to their signal stability. The high concentration ozone monitor for real time ozone monitoring from ozone generator was composed of a low pressure mercury lamp as UV source and a photo multiplier tube as UV detector. The structure could be very useful for low price high concentration ozone monitor and showed good linearity to ozone in the concentration range between 0.05 and 2wt%. For accurate ambient ozone monitoring, the system composed of a high power pulsed xenon lamp as UV source, an optical spectrometer with a high sensitivity linear CCD array as UV detector. The optical signal form the CCD array was converted to digital signal, and the digital signal was displayed on screen using PC interface. The developed system showed good linearity and sensitivity in relatively low measuring range between 10ppm and 10,000ppm, and showed some feasibility of hish resolution ozone monitor using CCD array as a photodetecor.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to assess the computer monitors used for analysis and interpretation of digital radiographs within the clinics of the Oral Health Centre of Western Australia. Materials and Methods: In total, 135 computer monitors(3 brands, 6 models) were assessed by analysing the same radiographic image of a combined 13-step aluminium step wedge and the Artinis CDDent 1.0® (Artinis Medical Systems B.V.®, Elst, the Netherlands) test object. The number of steps and cylindrical objects observed on each monitor was recorded along with the monitor's make, model, position relative to the researcher's eye level, and proximity to the nearest window. The number of window panels blocked by blinds, the outside weather conditions, and the number of ceiling lights over the surgical suite/cubicle were also recorded. MedCalc® version 19.2.1 (MedCalc Software Ltd®, Ostend, Belgium, https://www.medcalc.org; 2020) was used for statistical analyses(Kruskal-Wallis test and stepwise regression analysis). The level of significance was set at P<0.05. Results: Stepwise regression analysis showed that only the monitor brand and proximity of the monitor to a window had a significant impact on the monitor's performance (P<0.05). The Kruskal-Wallis test showed significant differences (P<0.05) in monitor performance for all variables investigated, except for the weather and the clinic in which the monitors were placed. Conclusion: The vast performance variation present between computer monitors implies the need for a review of monitor selection, calibration, and viewing conditions.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the possibility to optimize the gated treatment delivery time and maintenance of stable respiratory by the introduction of breath with the assistance of auditory-visual-tactile sense. Materials and Methods: The experimenter's respiration were measured by ANZAI 4D system. We obtained natural breathing signal, monitor-induced breathing signal, monitor & ventilator-induced breathing signal, and breath-hold signal using real time monitor during 10 minutes beam-on-time. In order to check the stability of respiratory signals distributed in each group were compared with means, standard deviation, variation value, beam_time of the respiratory signal. Results: The stability of each respiratory was measured in consideration of deviation change studied in each respiratory time lapse. As a result of an analysis of respiratory signal, all experimenters has showed that breathing signal used both Real time monitor and Ventilator was the most stable and shortest time. Conclusion: In this study, it was evaluated that respiratory gated radiation therapy with auditory-visual-tactual sense and without auditory-visual-tactual sense feedback. The study showed that respiratory gated radiation therapy delivery time could significantly be improved by the application of video feedback when this is combined with audio-tactual sense assistance. This delivery technique did prove its feasibility to limit the tumor motion during treatment delivery for all patients to a defined value while maintaining the accuracy and proved the applicability of the technique in a conventional clinical schedule.

  • Objectives: The present study is aimed at performing real-time measurement of fibrous materials using an F-1 fiber monitor, investigating the correlations between the measurements and environmental conditions, and assessing the feasibility of the use of the monitor in actual exposure assessments based on the accuracy and reliability of the device. Methods: Asbestos specimens with a fixed asbestos content were dispersed in a chamber and collected with a particle measuring test device. Measurements obtained by the existing PCM method, and with the F-1 fiber monitor were compared. In addition, concentrations of asbestos fibers obtained by the PCM method, the TEM method, and the F-1 fiber monitor were compared with that of specific ABS scenarios in NOA regions. Correlations of asbestos contents in soil and weather conditions with each method of measurement were analyzed. Results: Laboratory results showed that levels of asbestos fibers measured with each method increased as fiber contents in soil increased. In the accuracy and reproducibility assessment, no significant differences were found between the different methods of measurement. On-site assessment results showed positive correlations among the methods, and these correlations were less significant compared with what was shown by the laboratory results. Levels of asbestos fibers increased as asbestos contents in soil increased, and as temperature increased. Levels of asbestos fibers decreased as humidity increased, and wind speed did not significantly affect the extent to which asbestos fibers were scattered. Conclusions: While it would be premature to replace existing methods with the use of F-1 fiber monitors in real sites based on the results of this study, the monitor may be useful in the screening of the sites, which assesses hazard levels in different regions. Replacement of existing methods with the use of F-1 fiber monitors may be possible after the limitations identified in this study are overcome, and additional assessment data are obtained and reviewed under different conditions to confirm the reliability of the monitor in future research. Obtained assessment results may be used as basic data for the assessment of asbestos hazard in NOA regions.

  • Recently, the controversy continues as to whether maximum intercuspation of teeth should occur at the terminal hinge position(the condylar theory) or at the myo-co(the neuromuscular theory). There is also much controversy regarding the antero-posterior position of myo-co. The object of this study was to measure and compare with the positional relations of centric relation, centric occlusion and myo-co, and free-way space using Mandibular Kinesiograph and Myo-monitor in the 40 subjects without stomatognathic problems. Mandibular Kinesiograph(M.K.G.) was originally conceived as a research instrument to track mandibular movement and position. As its use in research progressed, its great diagnostic value became apparent in case by case. And Myo-monitor was developed as a means of applying the neuromuscular approach to occlusion. Thus the Myo-monitor technique is an intra-systemic approach to occlusal positioning using patient's own musculature, and Myo-monitor is used to relax the musculature by a light myopulse induced electronically. From this experiment, the following results were obtained. 1. The adaptive free-way space before muscle relaxation was an average of $1.6{\pm}60mm$, and the true free-way space after muscle relaxation using Myo-monitor was an average of $2.4{\pm}0.74mm$. 2. It took an average of $25{\pm}3.11$ minutes to relax the mandibular musculature by Myo-monitor and administration of 5mg. Diazepam and an average of $38{\pm}4.73$ minutes by Myo-monitor without administration of Diazepam. 3. Myo-co existed anterior to centric occlusion, with an average of $0.53{\pm}0.31$ mm, and centric relation existed posterior to centric occlusion, with an average of $0.57{\pm}0.58mm$ before muscle relaxation and with an average of $0.57{\pm}0.43mm$ after muscle relaxation. 4. Centric relation coincided with centric occlusion in 5 of 40 subjects(12.5%), and posterior to centric occlusion in the rest of cases (87.5%). 5. Myo-co existed anterior to centric occlusion in 38 of 40 subjects(95%), except 1 subject that coincided with centric occlusion and 1 subject that existed posterior to centric occlusion. 6. Myo-co and centric relation existed inferior to centric occlusion and the lateral displacement was various with individual difference. 7. The total displacement from centric occlusion to centric relation was an average of $0.74{\pm}0.64mm$ before muscle relaxation, and an average of $0.68{\pm}0.53mm$ after muscle relaxation, and the total displacement from centric occlusion to myo-co was an average of $1.07{\pm}0.58mm$.

  • This study was to evaluate the efficiency of diffusive monitor using activated carbon fiber(ACF, KF-1500) in measuring airborne organic solvents. The following characteristics were identified and studied as critical to the performance of diffusive monitor; recovery, sampling rate, face velocity, reverse diffusion and storage stability. For the evaluation of the performance of this monitor, MIBK, PCE, toluene were used as organic solvents. In the sampling rate experiments, eight kinds of solvents (n-hexane, MEK, DIBK, MCF, TCE, CB, xylene, cumene) as well as the above solvents were used. The results were as follows: 1. The desorption efficiencies(DE's) of ACF diffusive monitor ranged from 83 % to 101 %. In contrast, those of coconut shell charcoal ranged from 78 % to 102 %. Especially, the DE's of ACF for the polar solvents such as MEK were superior to those of charcoal. 2. Experimental sampling rates on ACF were average 42ml/min(37-46ml/min) for 11 organic solvents at $24{\pm}2^{\circ}C$, $50{\pm}5%RH$. However ideal sampling rates(DA/L) were 33 % higher than experimental sampling rates. 3. The initial response(15~16 min) of the testing monitor was 2 times higher than the actual concentration determined by the reference methods at $24{\pm}2^{\circ}C$, $8{\pm}5%RH$ and $80{\pm}5%RH$. Within 1 hours, the curve reached a linear horizontal line at low humidity condition. But sampling efficiencies decreased with respect to time at high humidity condition. And sampling efficiencies were higher at high humidity condition than low humidity condition for MIBK. 4. At very low velocity (less than 0.02 m/sec), the concentration of ACF diffusive monitor were poorly estimated. But ACF diffusive monitor were not affected at higher velocity(0.2 m/sec-0.6 m/sec). 5. There was no significant reverse diffusion when the ACF monitors were exposed to clean air for 2 hours after being exposed for 2 hours at the level of 1 TLV. 6. There was no significant sample loss during 3 weeks of storage at room temperature and 5 weeks of storage at refrigeration.
