  • Customers' needs change every moment. Profitability of stores can't be increased anymore with an existing standardized chain store management. Accordingly, a personalized store management tool needs through prediction of customers' preference. In this study, we propose a recommending procedure using dynamic customers' preference by analyzing the transaction database. We utilize self-organizing map algorithm and association rule mining which are applied to cluster the chain stores and explore purchase sequence of customers. We demonstrate that the proposed methodology makes an effect on recommendation of products in the market which is characterized by a fast fashion and a short product life cycle.

  • Dynamic structural behavior in long span bridges, especially cable structures, is very sophisticated due to their flexibility and structural members are sequentially erected in each construction step. In this study, the consistent mass matrix for dynamic analysis is formulated and computational program considering construction sequences is developed where structural members can be builded or removed by command language and automatically reanalyzed in the moment when structural system is changed. The dynamic analysis, i.e. eigenvalue and time series analysis and the geometrically nonlinear analysis considering construction sequence are conducted to the Namhae Bridge. The analytical results are satisfactory compared with measuring values and the developed computational program can successfully be applied to design and safety check.

  • In this study, the size effect of concrete members subjected to the axial load and bending moment is investigated using a series of C-shaped specimens of which test procedure is similar to those of Hognestad, Hanson, and McHenry's. Main test variable is a size ratio of the specimens(1:1/2:1/4) at the concrete compressive strength of 500kg/㎠. Test results show that the flexural compression strength at failure decreases as the size of specimen increases, that is, the size effect law is present. Model equation is derived using regression analyses with experimental data and it is compared with formulas for compressive strength of cylinders and shear strength of beams without stirrups. Size effects is distinct th following sequence; shear strength of beams without stirrups, compressive strength of C-shaped specimens, compressive strength of cylinders.

  • Fine grid calculations are reported for the developing turbulent flow in a straight duct and a curved duct of square cross-section with a radius of curvature to hydraulic diameter ratio ${\delta}=R_c/H_H=3.357$ and a bend angle of 180 deg. A sequence of modeling refinements is introduced; the replacement of wall function by a fine mesh across the sublayer and a low Reynolds number second moment closure up to the near wall sublayer in which the non-linear return to isotropy model and the cubic-quasi-isotropy model for the pressure strain are adopted; and the introduction of a multiple source model for the exact dissipation rate equation. Each refinement is shown to lead to an appreciable improvement in the agreement between measurement and computation.

  • In the paper, as a sequence of the first tutorial, we discuss sufficient dimension reduction methodologies used to estimate central subspace (sliced inverse regression, sliced average variance estimation), central mean subspace (ordinary least square, principal Hessian direction, iterative Hessian transformation), and central $k^{th}$-moment subspace (covariance method). Large-sample tests to determine the structural dimensions of the three target subspaces are well derived in most of the methodologies; however, a permutation test (which does not require large-sample distributions) is introduced. The test can be applied to the methodologies discussed in the paper. Theoretical relationships among the sufficient dimension reduction methodologies are also investigated and real data analysis is presented for illustration purposes. A seeded dimension reduction approach is then introduced for the methodologies to apply to large p small n regressions.

  • In this paper, a procedure for automated optimized design of reinforced concrete frames has been presented. The procedure consists of formulation and solution of the design problem in the form of an optimization problem. The minimization of total cost of R/C frame has been taken as the objective of optimization problem. In this research, consistent approximation method is applied to explicitly formulate constraints and objective function in terms of the design variables. In the presented method, the primary optimization problem is replaced with a sequence of explicit sub-problems. Each sub-problem is efficiently solved using the Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) method. The proposed method is demonstrated through a four-story frame and an eight-story frame, and the optimum results are compared with those in the available literature. It is shown that the proposed method can be easily applied to obtain rational, reliable, economical and practical designs for Reinforced Concrete Moment Resisting Frames (RCMRFs) while it is converged after a few analyses.

  • The 29 May 2004 offshore Uljin, Korea earthquake was predominantly thrust-faulting at a depth of approximately 12 (±2) km. The mainshock attained the seismic moment of M0 =5.41 (±1.87)  1016 N m (Mw = 5.1). The focal mechanism indicates a subhorizontal P-axis trending 264° and plunging 2°. The orientation of P- and T-axis is consistent with the direction of absolute plate motion generally observed within the plates, hence the cause of the May 29 shock is the broad-scale stress pattern from the forces acting on the downgoing slab along the Japan trench and inhibiting forces balancing it. The 29 May 2004 earthquake occurred along a deep seated (~12 km), pre-existing feature that is expressed on the surface as the basement escarpment along the western and southern slopes of the Ulleung basin. The concentrated seismicity along this basement escarpment suggests that this feature may qualify as a seismic zone - the Ulleung basement escarpment seismic zone (UBESZ).

  • Successive ground motions having short time intervals have occurred in many earthquakes so far. It is necessary to investigate the effects of this phenomenon on different types of structures and to take these effects into consideration while designing or retrofitting structures. The effects of seismic sequences on the structures with combined reinforced concrete shear wall and moment resisting frame system have not been investigated in details yet. This paper has tried to analyse the seismic performance of structures with such structural systems subjected to mainshock-aftershock sequences. The effects of the seismic sequences on the investigated models are evaluated by strong measures such as IDA capacity and fragility and vulnerability curves. The results of this study show that the seismic sequences have a significant effect on the investigated models, which necessitates considering this effect on designing, retrofitting, decision making, and taking precautions.

  • In this paper, we give a new approach to solving the 2-variable subnormal completion problem (SCP for short). To this aim, we extend the notion of recursively generated weighted shifts, introduced by R. Curto and L. Fialkow, to 2-variable case. We next provide "concrete" necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions to the 2-variable SCP with minimal Berger measure. Furthermore, a short alternative proof to the propagation phenomena, for the subnormal weighted shifts in 2-variable, is given.
