  • In this paper, TM(transverse magnetic) scattering problems by a resistive strip grating between a double dielectric layer are analyzed by using the FGMM(fourier galerkin moment method) known as a numerical method of electromagnetic fileld. The boundary conditions are applied to obtain the unknown field coefficients, the scattered electromagnetic fields are expanded in a series of Floquet mode functions, and the resistive boundary condition is applied to analysis of the resistive strip. Overall, as the uniform resistivity of the resistive strip increased, the size of the current density induced in the resistance band decreased, the reflected power decreased, and the transmitted power increased. In addition, As the thickness of the dielectric layer increased, the reflected power increased and the transmitted power relatively decreased. The numerical results of the structure proposed in this paper are shown in good agreement compared to the results of PMM, a numerical analysis method of the existing paper.

  • Probabilistic Load Flow(PLF) solution based on the method of moments is used for security assessment of bus voltages in power systems. Bus voltages, line currents, line admittances, generated real and reactive power, and bus loads are treated as complex random variables. These complex random variables are known in terms of probability density functions(PDF). Also, expressions for the convolutions of complex random variables in terms of moments and cumulants have been derived. Proposed PLF solution using the method of moments is fast, because the process of convolution of various complex random variables is performed in moment and cumulant domain. Therefore, the method is applied to security assessment of power systems in this paper. Finally, system operator also can be used information of security assessment to improve reliability of power systems.

  • Nowadays, diesel power plant using low speed two stroke diesel engine is widely used in islands and restricted areas. Considerations were given to its benefit of high thermal efficiency, reliability and durability compared to the other prime movers. However, various types of engine vibration affect neighboring buildings to their structural vibration. For this, diesel power plant are held liable for the troubles caused by these vibration. These are mainly due to the X- and H-type engine vibrations which we excited by the X- and H- guide force moment. Authors have identified a structural vibration of new pattern called ‘T-mode vibration’ due to the torsional vibration of shafting system. In this paper, T-mode vibration is analyzed through an experimental method based on the global vibration measurement.

  • We have found that the polarization mode coupling between the orthogonally linearly polarized dual mode laser results from the anisotropy of dipole moments. Rate equation analysis demonstrated that high anisotropy in dipole moment components can give rise to law intrinsic mode coupling constants while isotropic dipole moment components give high intrinsic mode coupling constant. The populations at active ion sites are shown to self-organize the populations such that laser mode gain is constant adove threshold while the gain contributions from the each site adjust themselves with pump power.

  • Urban transit operation is to manipulate the vehicle or train of urban transit to be operated on the basis of the installations such as track, power, communication, signaling and so on. It can be performed by manual or automated, or manned or manless operation considering its system built, operation efficiency, safety, etc. Because of the heavy impact directly to the safety of passenger transport, it has been managed strictly by the Regulation for Train Operation of Urban Transit according to Urban Transit Act. However, the present regulation has been basis of the manual operation mainly, it is crossing beyond the limitation of application to the manless operation which is being introduced moment to moment. It is needed increasingly to revise the regulation for the manless operation which is close at hand now. In this paper, we examined and analysed the cases of manless operation of urban transit planed within the country such as Busan 4th Line, Shinbundang Line, Busan-Kimhae Line, etc. based on the present regulation, and proposed the review of considerations to reflec the manless operation to the regulation to be revised.

  • The mechanical design for biped walking of a humanoid robot doing the Argentina Tango is presented in this paper. Biped walking has long been studied in the area of robotic locomotion. The aim of this paper is to implement an Argentina Tango dancer-like walking motion with a humanoid robot by using a trajectory generation scheme. To that end, this paper uses blending polynominals whose parameters are determined based on PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) according to conditions that make the most of the Argentina Tango's characteristics. For the stability of biped walking, the ZMP (Zero Moment Point) control method is used. The feasibility of the proposed scheme is evaluated by simulating biped walking with the 3D Simscape robot model. The simulation results show the validity and effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper deals with experimental investigation of active flow control via synthetic jets using an unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) planform. Fourteen arrays of synthetic jets, mounted along both leading edges, were fully or partially activated to increase aerodynamic efficiency and reduce pitch-up moment. The measurements were carried out using a six-component external balance, a pressure scanner, and tuft flow visualization. It was observed that aerodynamic efficiency (L/D) and pitching moment were clearly affected by the location of jets. In particular, inboard and outboard actuation could effectively increase L/D. Moreover, inboard actuation showed a reduction in the pitch-up, even more than that generated by the full actuation. These results suggest that inboard actuation not only effectively increases L/D but also reduces the pitch-up using only a few actuators.

  • By using differential force between left and right wheel, lateral motion can be controlled known as Direct Yaw-moment Control (DYC). In previous researches, DYC control is proposed to increase the stability of the vehicle, but maneuverability has not been discussed sufficiently. The car handling condition which is called the index parameter of maneuverability is dependent on the vehicle velocity and steering angle. To achieve the desired vehicle's cornering path, the car handling condition must be considered sufficiently. In this paper, the novel DYC method is proposed which gives the car handling condition regardless of the longitudinal speed. The proposed controller is based on the PI controller to feedback the curvature parameter. The controlled system shows the advantages of DYC regarding to the reference trajectory by the dual motor system. With respect to the uncontrolled model, the effectiveness of the proposed method is validated by numerical examples.

  • A simplified statistical methodology is developed in order to both reduce over-conservatism of deterministic methodologies employed for PWR fuel rod internal pressure (RIP) calculation and simplify the complicated calculation procedure of the widely used statistical methodology which employs the response surface method and Monte Carlo simulation. The simplified statistical methodology employs the system moment method with a deterministic approach in determining the maximum variance of RIP The maximum RIP variance is determined with the square sum of each maximum value of a mean RIP value times a RIP sensitivity factor for all input variables considered. This approach makes this simplified statistical methodology much more efficient in the routine reload core design analysis since it eliminates the numerous calculations required for the power history-dependent RIP variance determination. This simplified statistical methodology is shown to be more conservative in generating RIP distribution than the widely used statistical methodology. Comparison of the significances of each input variable to RIP indicates that fission gas release model is the most significant input variable.

  • This paper deals with a pitch control for reducing load of the wind turbine system. To make a model of the wind turbine system, the Momentum Theory and Blade Element Theory are used. Considering wind shear, wind model was also built. Due to a difference of the wind speed between upper parts and lower parts of the sweep area, overturning moment of the wind turbine is generated. So, in this paper through analyzing of the system model of the wind turbine, a control algorithm which was able to achieve both maintaining power and reducing overturning moment was proposed. Using matlab simulink, controller performance was verified.
