The regulatory role of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) growth arrest-specific transcript 5 (GAS5) in both cancerous and noncancerous cells have been widely reported. This study aimed to evaluate the role of lncRNA GAS5 in heart failure caused by myocardial infarction. We reported that silence of lncRNA GAS5 attenuated hypoxia-triggered cell death, as cell viability was increased and apoptosis rate was decreased. This phenomenon was coupled with the down-regulated expression of p53, Bax and cleaved caspase-3, as well as the up-regulated expression of CyclinD1, CDK4 and Bcl-2. At the meantime, the expression of four heart failure-related miR-NAs was altered when lncRNA GAS5 was silenced (miR-21 and miR-142-5p were up-regulated; miR-30b and miR-93 were down-regulated). RNA immunoprecipitation assay results showed that lncRNA GAS5 worked as a molecular sponge for miR-142-5p. More interestingly, the protective actions of lncRNA GAS5 silence on hypoxia-stimulated cells were attenuated by miR-142-5p suppression. Besides, TP53INP1 was a target gene for miR-142-5p. Silence of lncRNA GAS5 promoted the activation of PI3K/AKT and MEK/ERK signaling pathways in a miR-142-5p-dependent manner. Collectively, this study demonstrated that silence of lncRNA GAS5 protected H9c2 cells against hypoxia-induced injury possibly via sponging miR-142-5p, functionally releasing TP53INP1 mRNA transcripts that are normally targeted by miR-142-5p.

This paper is for the combustion characteristics of gas generator which drive 1.5MW-class turbo pump and runs in fuel-rich combustion regime with LOx/kerosene as propellant. The outline of development procedure of real scale high pressure gas generator is introduced and the relation between O/F ratio and outlet temperature and the molecular weight and specific heat ratio of combustion gas are described. The relation between O/F ratio and temperature is newly obtained at higher pressure and the molecular weight and specific heat ratio is modified and their validity is confirmed by the mass relation equation.
The effect of altitude on thermal conduction, surface temperature, and thermal radiation of partial arc was investigated on the basis of molecular gas dynamics to facilitate a deep understanding of the pollution surface discharge mechanism. The DC flashover model was consequently modified at high altitude. The validity of the modified DC flashover model proposed in this paper was proven through a comparison with the results of high-altitude simulation experiments and earlier models. Moreover, the modified model was found to be better than the earlier modified models in terms of forecasting the flashover voltage. Findings indicated that both the thermal conduction coefficient and the surface thermodynamics temperature of partial arc had a linear decrease tendency with the altitude increasing from 0 m to 3000 m, both of which dropped by approximately 30% and 3.6%, respectively. Meanwhile, the heat conduction and the heat radiation of partial arc both had a similar linear decrease of approximately 15%. The maximum error of DC pollution flashover voltage between the calculation value according to the modified model and the experimental value was within 6.6%, and the pollution flashover voltage exhibited a parabola downtrend with increasing of pollution.

Atmospheric concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were measured at the Chonbuk National University located in Jeonju, four times between June and November 2002, each time for five days. Twenty-four compounds including five alkyl PAHs and byphenyl were analyzed. Average total concentration of 24 PAHs was 85 $\pm$ 15 ng/$m^3$ and about 94% of PAHs existed in the gas phase. On an average, naphthalene accounted for about 30% of the total PAHs concentration. The gas/particle partitioning was not much varied during the measurement period. High molecular weight PAHs with five and six rings were primarily associated with fine particles less than 1 $\mu$m. Lower molecular weight PAHs were evenly distributed in fine and coarse particles so that their distribution was similar to that of TSP.

A nonequilibrium molecular dynamics(NEMD) simulation method is developed and applied to study shock waves propagating through argon gas. In this simulation method, shock waves are generated by pushing a piston at a constant speed from one side of a simulation box filled with argon molecules. A linear relationship between piston speeds and shock speeds is observed. Thermodynamic properties including density, temperature, and pressure before and after the shock front are obtained from the simulations and compared with the well-known Rankine-Hugoniot equations based on ideal gases. The comparison shows an excellent agreement, indicating that this NEMD simulation method can be employed to investigate various physical properties of shock waves further.
A highly sensitive detecting method has been developed for determining part per billion of sulfur in $H_2S$/Ar plasma. The method is based on the excitation of Ar/$H_2S\;or\;Ar/H_2S/O_2$ mixture in hollow cathode glow discharge sustained by radiofrequency (RF) or 60 Hz AC power and the spectroscopic measurement of the intensity of emission lines from electronically excited $S_2^*\;or\;SO_2^*$ species, respectively. The RF or AC power needed for the excitation did not exceed 30 W at a gas pressure maintained at several mbar. The emission intensity from the $SO_2^*$ species showed excellent linear response to the sulfur concentration ranging from 5 ppbv, which correspond to S/N = 5, to 500 ppbv. But the intensity from the $S_2^*$ species showed a linear response to the $H_2S$ only at low flow rate under 20 sccm (mL/min) of the sample gas. Separate experiments using $SO_2$ gas as the source of sulfur demonstrated that the presence of $O_2$ in the argon plasma is essential for obtaining prominent $SO_2^*$ emission lines.
Neutral gas in a Hall-effect thruster in a small satellite is simulated using a molecular dynamics code. Investigated are neutral density, pressure, axial average velocity, and temperature for the variation of diffusive reflection ratio, initial gas temperature, and channel length. Expected through this research are improving of discharge simulation through the neutral simulation and understanding of real system.

Carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) and methane (CH$_4$) are two major greenhouse Bases. $CO_2$is a stack gas of many industrial processes and the main product of the hydrocarbon combustion. There is recent research interest on the synthesis gas (syngas) formation from $CO_2$ and CH$_4$, via the following reaction: CH$_4$+$CO_2$longrightarrow 2H$_2$+$CO_2$, in order to reduce the greenhouse effects and to synthesize various chemicals, Preliminary experiments were conducted on the conversion of $CO_2$ and CH$_4$ to syngas by making use of a microwave plasma torch at atmospheric pressure. Conversion rates of $CO_2$and CH$_4$ to hydrogen (H$_2$), carbon monoxide (CO) and higher hydrocarbons were investigated using Gas Chromatography (GC) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR). The experimental data indicate that the main products were H$_2$, CO and small amount of higher hydrocarbons, such as ethylene (C$_2$H$_4$).
A vacuum ultraviolet photolysis of ethyl bromide was studied in the pressure range of 0.5-19.9 torr and at 123.6 nm krypton resonance line. The pressure effect on the reaction was studied by increasing the reactant pressure and by adding an inert gas, e.g., He. In the observation the monatomic gas is found to be no effect in the reaction. A scavenger effect of the reaction was also performed by adding NO gas as a radical scavenger and was found to be quite efficient to scavenge a radical product $C_2H_6$. The observation of the major reaction product $C_2H_6$ was interpreted in terms of a molecular elimination. Nontheless the decreasing phenomenon of ${\phi}_{C_2H_4}/{\phi}_{C_2H_6}$ with pressure rise was attributed to the existence of the two electronically excited states. One state proceeds to the molecular elimination and the other to carbon-bromine bond fission. The excitation and the decomposition mechanisms between two excited states and the reaction products were interpreted in terms of the first excitation which proceeds the molecular elimination, and the second excitation which resulted from the first excited state by collisional cross over decomposes by carbon-bromine bond fission.

Galaxy groups are the place where many galaxies feel the impact of the surroundings (e.g., merging, tidal interaction, ram pressure stripping) before joining bigger structures like (sub)clusters. A significant fraction of galaxies is quenched in the group environment. Such "pre-processing" of galaxies in groups is likely to affect galaxy evolution tremendously. To better understand how environmental processes in galaxy groups affect molecular gas, star formation activity, and galaxy evolution, we carried out CO imaging observations of group galaxies, using the Atacama Compact Array (ALMA/ACA). We selected all the targets that have been detected in the GEMS-HI survey for two groups, making the sample of 40 galaxies (18 galaxies in IC 1459 group and 22 galaxies in NGC 4636 group). Our ALMA/ACA observation is the first CO imaging survey for two groups. In this work, we present CO images of group galaxies, together with their star formation maps and HI images. Our ACA CO data show the asymmetric distribution of molecular gas in some of our samples. We discuss the impact of the group environment on molecular gas and star formation activity.
