  • In this paper, for phase lock loop(PLL) synthesizer, we introduce a novel but simple and low cost frequency modulation(FM) circuit of a flat peak frequency deviation for modulation signal from high to very low frequency penetrating into the loop-bandwidth of PLL. The FM circuit was basically designed to compensate an amount of feedback of the loop filter in PLL. The circuit also includes the capability of the adjustment of peak frequency deviation and blocking the interference with the loop filter. The designed circuit was successfully implemented and showed the flat frequency deviation as expected in the design.

  • In this paper, we investigated the degree of compensation for distorted optical pulse of wavelength division multiplexed(WDM) channel with initial frequency chirp generated in optical transmitter. The WDM channel signal distortion is due to chromatic dispersion, self phase modulation(SPM) and cross phase modulation(XPM) in fiber. The considered system is 3 ${\times}$ 40 Gbps intensity modulation direct detection(IM/DD) WDM transmission systems, which adopted mid-span spectral inversion(MSSI) as compensation method. We confirmed that the effect of initial frequency chirp on compensation for signal distortion due to a SPM is gradually decreased as a dispersion coefficient of fiber becomes gradually small. But, in the aspect of a compensation for signal distortion due to both SPM and XPM, the effect of initial frequency chirp on compensation is gradually decreased as a dispersion coefficient of fiber becomes gradually large.

  • In this paper, using phase locked loop(PLL) synthesizer, we introduce a novel but simple and low cost frequency modulation(FM) circuit of a flat peak frequency deviation fur modulation signal whose frequency covers from outside to inside of the loop-bandwidth of PLL. The FM circuit was basically designed to compensate an amount of feedback of the loop filter in PLL. The circuit also includes the capability of the adjustment of peak frequency deviation and of blocking the intereference with the loop filter. The designed circuit was successfully implemented and showed the flat frequency deviation as expected in the design. In addition, the novel measurement method of the wideband FM modulation index is suggested verified With the suggest measurement, it can be successfully shown the designed circuit has the expected frequency deviation.

  • In many applications of power electronics, high frequency resonant inverters are used, and the PAM(Pulse Amplitude Modulation), PFM(Pulse Frequency Modulation) or PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) techniques are used to control the output power of resonant inverters. And the resonant inverters have to control the output frequency for the reliable operation under the variable load conditions. In this paper, a new switching scheme is proposed as a PWM control of resonant inverters. With the proposed method, it can be obtained that optimum resonant frequency and unity output displacement factor under the variable resonant frequency adaptively. The detail algorithm or the proposed PWM switching scheme and its output characteristics are discussed. And the veridity of the proposed method is confirmed with the experimental results.

  • In this paper, we introduce mel-cepstrum modulation energy (MCME) for a feature to discriminate speech and music data. MCME is a mel-cepstrum domain extension of modulation energy (ME). MCME is extracted on the time trajectory of Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients, while ME is based on the spectrum. As cepstral coefficients are mutually uncorrelated, we expect the MCME to perform better than the ME. To find out the best modulation frequency for MCME, we perform experiments with 4 Hz to 20 Hz modulation frequency. To show effectiveness of the proposed feature, MCME, we compare the discrimination accuracy with the results obtained from the ME and the cepstral flux.

  • This paper proposes a multiplexed space-frequency block coding (SFBC) technique for single-carrier modulation with frequency domain equalization. Multiplexed space-frequency block coding technique for single-carrier modulation uses multiple groups of two transmitters and suppresses the interference signals of other SFBC groups at the receiver. In this paper, we reconfigure transmit signals to adapt them for multiplexed SFBC for single-carrier modulation with frequency domain equalization and receiver structures and propose a structure for transmitter and receiver, show its performance is better than the traditional algorithm by simulations.

  • This paper proposes a hybrid single carrier sinusoidal modulation suitable for multiphase multilevel inverters. Multiphase multilevel inverters are controlled by hybrid modulation to provide multiphase variable voltage and a variable frequency supply. The proposed modulation combines the benefits of fundamental frequency modulation and single carrier sinusoidal modulation (SC-SPWM) strategies. The main characteristics of hybrid modulation are a reduction in switching losses and improved harmonic performance. The proposed algorithm can be applied to cascaded multilevel inverter topologies. It has low computational complexity and it is suitable for hardware implementations. SC-SPWM and its base modulation design are implemented on a TMS320F2407 digital signal processor (DSP). A Complex Programmable Logic Device realizes the hybrid PWM algorithm and it is integrated with a DSP processor for hybrid SC-SPWM generation. The feasibility of this hybrid modulation is verified by spectral analysis, power loss analysis, simulation and experimental results.

  • Modulation theory describes propagation of surface waves with deep wave number and frequency modulation. Locally spectrally narrow wave packet can have accumulated large scale frequency shift of carrier wave during propagation. Some important nonlinear modulation effects, such as negative frequencies, phase kinks, crest pairing, etc., often observed experimentally at long fetch propagation of finite amplitude surface wave trains, are reproduced by the proposed theory. The presented model permits also to analyze the appropriately short surface wave packets and modulation periods. Solutions show the wave phase kinks to arise on areas' of relatively small free surface displacement in complete accordance with the experiments.

  • To improve the bandwidth efficiency of conventional orthogonal modulation, the MCTO(Multi-Code Trans-Orthogonal) modulation, which is modified orthogonal modulation, was proposed. However, the RF(Radio Frequency) power amplifier for the MCTO modulation is too complex to reject the amplitude distortion due to the non-constant amplitude property of the MCTO. Therefore, in this paper, CAMCTO(constant-amplitude multi-code trans-orthogonal) modulation is proposed by using the constant-amplitude encoding algorithm for multi-code signal. Additionally, the performance of the proposed CAMCTO modulation is compared with those of the orthogonal modulation and the MCTO modulation by using the computer simulation. The computer simulations show that the bandwidth efficiency of the proposed CAMCTO modulation is better than that of the conventional orthogonal modulation.
