This study focused on the investigation of compressive and flexural strengths development, and bond strength of latex modified concrete in order to validate the feasibility of application into concrete bridge deck overlay. Pull-out bond test was used for evaluating the bond strength of latex modified concrete to substrate. The main experimental variables were latex-cement ratio, surface preparation and moisture levels. The compressive strength of latex modified concrete decreased slightly and the flexural strength increased as the latex content increased from 5% to 20%. This might be due to the flexibility latex filled in voids and interconnections of hydrated cement and aggregates by a film of latex particles, respectively. In general, increasing the amount of latex will produce concrete with increased tensile and flexural strength and lower modulus of elasticity. Significant improvements in bond strength between new and existing concrete were achieved through the modification of the new concrete bridge deck overlay by latex polymers. The effect of surface preparation on bond of latex modified concrete to conventional concrete were significant at the conditions by sand paper and wire brush. A better bond could be achieved by rough surface rather than smooth. The saturated condition of surface is the most appropriate moisture level among the considered followed by dry condition and wet condition.

This study focused on the investigation of strength development and permeability of LMC(latex modified concrete) and RSLMC(rapid-setting cement latex modified concrete) as the latex content, cement types and w/c ratio variated. The compressive strength of latex modified concrete decreased slightly and the flexural strength increased quitely at the latex content of 15%. This may due to the flexibility of latex filled in voids and interconnections of hydrated cement and aggregates by a film of latex particles, respectively. The permeability test results showed that the permeability of LMC was considerably lower than that of conventional concrete. In the RSLMC's tests of permeability to chloride ion indicated very low permeability at an early age, which nay be due to the early formation of needle-shape ettringites and latex film.
Recently, research on geopolymeric concrete that does not use cement as a binder has been actively investigated. Geopolymeric concrete is cement-free concrete. Masato, ocher and/or soil has been solidified into geopolymeric concrete by the reaction of specifically modified silicate as an alkali activator and inorganic binding materials such as blast furnace slag, fly ash or meta-kaolin, which is cured at room temperature to exhibit high compressive strengths. Based on the results, this study shows how geopolymeric concrete that uses specifically modified silicate and inorganic binding materials is implemented as eco-cement with no cement.

This paper describes the effects of modified sulfur polymer content on the compressive strength and chemical resistance of Portland cement concrete with and without the modified sulfur polymer. The Portland cement concrete which contained modified sulfur had much higher strength than the Portland cement concrete without modified sulfur, workability is stabled at $55^{\circ}C$. Alkali tolerance test was evaluated by immersing these concrete specimens in 13 % $CaCl_2$ solutions. In the alkali tolerance test, the resistance of Portland cement concrete with modified sulfur to $CaCl_2$ increased compared with Portland cement concrete without modified sulfur.
Many researches have been conducted to evaluate the performance of modified asphalt concrete mixtures. The research was conducted to estimate the laboratory mechanical characteristics of Elvaloy-modified asphalt concrete mixture. To achieve its intended objective, indirect tensile test and resilient modulus test were performed. The rest results revealed that indirect tensile strengths and resilient moduli of the Elvaloy-modified asphalt concrete mixture were higher than those of the conventional dense-graded. As a result, within the limits of the tests conducted in this research, it is predicted that the performance and stability of the Elvaloy-modified asphalt concrete mixture are better than that of the conventional dense-graded one.

Latex modification of concrete provides the material with higher flexural strength. This increase in flexural strength can attribute to the crack-arresting action of polymer in concrete, and also to the bonding they provide between the matrix and aggregates. This experimental study presents the fracture behavior of 12 flexural reinforced concrete beams repaired or strengthened by latex-modified concrete with the main experimental variables such as overlay thickness, strength thickness, and shear reinforcement. The results are as follow: All beam specimens having shear reinforcement were failed by delamination rupture at concrete interface at about 80% of ultimate loading after flexural cracking. All specimens overlayed and strengthened by latex-modified concrete (LMC) showed higher ultimate flexural strength than OPC control specimen, but lower than LMC control specimen. This increase in flexural strength could attribute to the high bonding they provide between the matrix and aggregates. All specimens except two shear unreinforced showed quite similar and consistent displacement behavior. The effect of overlay and strength thickness on the load-displacement relationship were a small at this study.

This is the Study on Application and Manufacture Technique of Cold-Mix, Cold-Laid type Asphalt Concrete using of Polymer modified asphalt the could be constructed easily and economically on damaged road repaireless for seasons. The modified materials for this study are SBS(Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene). SBR (Styrene-Butadiene-Rubber) and PUR(Polyurethane). The Marshall stability and the value of flow and resistance in water stability degree according to the alternation types and weight percent of modified materials were compared and evaluated on this study. The results of the study show that PUR modified asphalt have improvement of over 150% Marshall stability in AI MS-14 standard and they are evaluated to have the easiness of storage and better working efficiency compared with other types of modified asphalt compound.
Up to this day, reinforced spun concrete pipes have been widely used as drain pipes. However, many reinforced spun concrete pipes are exposed to the deteriorated environment such as freezing-thawing damage and chemical attack by the growth of a sulfur-oxidizing bacterium isolated from corroded concrete. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of lining by polymer-modified mortar using polymer dispersions as cement modifier on the development in durability of reinforced spun concrete pipe. The polymer-modified mortars were prepared with various polymer types and polymer-cement ratios, and tested for compressive and flexural strengths, acid, freezing-thawing, and heat resistances. And then, the reinforced spun concrete pipe product lined by polymer-modified mortars was tested for adhesion in tension and surface conditions according to curing temperatures in the field. From the test results, it is apparent that the polymer-modified mortars have good mechanical properties and durability as a lining material. In practice, all polymers can be used as lining the materials for reinforced spun concrete pipe, and types of polymer, and polymer-cement ratio and curing conditions are controlled for a good lining product.
An increase in the amount of cracking in repaired concrete bridge decks using VES-LMC(Very Early Strength - Latex Modified Concrete ; below VES-LMC) has been noticed by Yun et al(1). Literature indicates that indeed many concrete bridge decks develop transverse cracking, most developing at early ages(3~7 days), many right after construction. The purpose of this study was to establish prevention of map, transverse and longitudinal cracking in VES-LMC and to provide a control methods for minimizing the occurrence of cracks. The proposed prevention against map and transverse cracking was verified by field applications. VES cement was modified, the unit cement contents was reduced into $360kg/m^3$ from $390kg/m^3$, the maximum size of coarse aggregate was increase into 19mm from 13mm, wire mesh and steel fibers were incorporated in concrete mixture. A series of variable combinations were attempted. As a results, the proposed prevention against map and transverse cracking was verified because no crack were occurred until 90 days after overlay.
Diffusion of water in hardened cement concrete and mortar influences on the dry shrinkage. creep. modulus of' elasticity, etc. In general, water loss through drying process in polymer-modified concrete and mortar is small compared with that of unmodified concrete and mortar due to the films formed by polymer as cement modifieder. The purpose of this study is to investigate the diffusion process of water in the polymer-modified mortars. The polymer-modified mortars using three polymer dispersions and epoxy resin are prepared with various polymer-cement ratios, and water diffusion coefficient of polymer-modified mortars according to inside water content is calculated. From the test results, the water diffusion coefficient of polymer modified mortars i s smaller than that of unmodified mortars and decreases with increasing polymer cement ratio.
