i-LEACH : Head-node Constrained Clustering Algorithm for Randomly-Deployed WSN (i-LEACH : 랜덤배치 고정형 WSN에서 헤더수 고정 클러스터링 알고리즘)

  • Generally, the clustering of sensor nodes in WSN is a useful mechanism that helps to cope with scalability problem and, if combined with network data aggregation, may increase the energy efficiency of the network. The Hierarchical clustering routing algorithm is a typical algorithm for enhancing overall energy efficiency of network, which selects cluster-head in order to send the aggregated data arriving from the node in cluster to a base station. In this paper, we propose the improved-LEACH that uses comparably simple and light-weighted policy to select cluster-head nodes, which results in reduction of the clustering overhead and overall power consumption of network. By using fine-grained power model, the simulation results show that i-LEACH can reduce clustering overhead compared with the well-known previous works such as LEACH. As result, i-LEACH algorithm and LEACH algorithm was compared, network power-consumption of i-LEACH algorithm was improved than LEACH algorithm with 25%, and network-traffic was improved 16%.

Position Control of Mobile Robot for Human-Following in Intelligent Space with Distributed Sensors

  • Latest advances in hardware technology and state of the art of mobile robot and artificial intelligence research can be employed to develop autonomous and distributed monitoring systems. And mobile service robot requires the perception of its present position to coexist with humans and support humans effectively in populated environments. To realize these abilities, robot needs to keep track of relevant changes in the environment. This paper proposes a localization of mobile robot using the images by distributed intelligent networked devices (DINDs) in intelligent space (ISpace) is used in order to achieve these goals. This scheme combines data from the observed position using dead-reckoning sensors and the estimated position using images of moving object, such as those of a walking human, used to determine the moving location of a mobile robot. The moving object is assumed to be a point-object and projected onto an image plane to form a geometrical constraint equation that provides position data of the object based on the kinematics of the intelligent space. Using the a priori known path of a moving object and a perspective camera model, the geometric constraint equations that represent the relation between image frame coordinates of a moving object and the estimated position of the robot are derived. The proposed method utilizes the error between the observed and estimated image coordinates to localize the mobile robot, and the Kalman filtering scheme is used to estimate the location of moving robot. The proposed approach is applied for a mobile robot in ISpace to show the reduction of uncertainty in the determining of the location of the mobile robot. Its performance is verified by computer simulation and experiment.

Numerical study on the optimal position of a pile for stabilization purpose of a slope

  • The paper describes the influence of pile reinforcement on the stability of the slope behaviour, and the exploitation of the results of in situ measurements will be conducted. In the second part, a 2D numerical modelling will be conducted by using the finite element code PLAXIS2D; in order to validate the proposed modelling approach by comparing the numerical results with the measurements results carried out on the slides studied; to study the effect of positioning of piles as a function of the shear parameters of the supported soil on the behaviour of the soil. For various shear strength of the soil a row of pile position is found, at which the piles offer the maximum contribution to slope stability. The position of piles is found to influence the safety factor in granular soil whereas it shows a slight influence on the safety factor in coherent soil. The results also indicate that the ideal position for such stabilizing piles is in the middle height of the slope. Comparison of results of present study with literature from publication: indicated that to reach the maximum stability of slope, the pile must be installed with Lx/L ratio (0.37 to 0.62) and the inclination must be between 30° to 60°. Even, after a certain length of the pile, the increasing will be useless. The application of the present approach to such a problem is located at the section of PK 210+480 to 210+800 of the Algerian East-West Highway.

Early-age thermal analysis and strain monitoring of massive concrete structures

  • Hydration heat and thermal induced cracking have always been a fatal problem for massive concrete structures. In order to study a massive reinforced concrete wall of a storage tank for liquefied natural gas (LNG) during its construction, two mock-ups of $0.8m{\times}0.8m{\times}0.8m$ without and with metal corrugated pipes were designed based on the actual wall construction plan. Temperature distribution and strain development of both mock-ups were measured and compared inside and on the surface of them. Meanwhile, time-dependent thermal and mechanical properties of the concrete were tested standardly and introduced into the finite-element (FE) software with a proposed hydration degree model. According to the comparison results, the FE simulation of temperature field agreed well with the measured data. Besides, the maximum temperature rise was slightly higher and the shrinkage was generally larger in the mock-up without pipes, indicating that corrugated pipes could reduce concrete temperature and decrease shrinkage of surrounding concrete. In addition, the cooling rate decreased approximately linearly with the reduction of heat transfer coefficient h, implying that a target cooling curve can be achieved by calculating a desired coefficient h. Moreover, the maximum cooling rate did not necessarily decrease with the extension of demoulding time. It is better to remove the formwork at least after 116 hours after concrete casting, which promises lower risk of thermal cracking of early-age concrete.

  • In the slope stability analysis and design, Limit Equilibrium Method (LEM) and Shear Strength Reduction technique (SSR) are mainly used. Both methods are able to perform two and three dimensional analysis. SSR is considered to be more sensitive and more reasonable than LEM by many researchers. However, in practice LEM is still widely used because of the increase of analysis time and complexity of the model in SSR. In this study, three dimensional analysis of the protruding rock slope is performed by SSR in order to study the effects of protruding length using rock slope FLAC 3D. In this study, as results of analysis variations of the safety factor have been studied according to slope angle, slope height, the soil strength, protruding slope length projected variables. The results show that the factor of safety as more affected by the shapes of the protruding rock slope than the rock strength.

Aqueous U(VI) removal by green rust and vivianite at phosphate-rich environment

  • Vivianite (Fe32+(PO4)2·8H2O) and green rust ([Fe42+Fe23+(OH)-12][SO42-·2H2O]2-), ferrous containing minerals, could remove aqueous U(VI) in 5 min. and the efficiencies of green rust were roughly 2 times higher than that of vivianite. The zeta potential measurement results implies that the better performance of green rust might be attributed to the favorable surface charge toward uranyl phosphate species. The removal behaviors of the minerals were well fitted by pseudo-second order kinetic model (R2 > 0.990) indicating the dominant removal process was chemical adsorption. Effects of Ca2+ and CO32- at pH 7 were examined in terms of removal kinetic and capacity. The kinetic constants of aqueous U(VI) were 8 and 13 times lower (0.492 × 10-3 g/(mg·min); 0.305 × 10-3 g/(mg·min)) compared to the value in the absence of the ions. The thermodynamic equilibrium calculation showed that the stable uranyl species (uranyl tri-carbonate) were newly formed at the condition. Surface investigation on the reacted mineral with uranyl phosphates species were carried out by XPS. Ferrous iron and U(VI) on the green rust surface were completely oxidized and reduced into Fe(III) and U(IV) after 7 d. It suggests that the ferrous minerals can retard U(VI) migration in phosphate-rich groundwater through the adsorption and subsequent reduction processes.

A Study on Digital Fingerprinting Technology for the Copyright Protection of the Image Contents Printout (이미지 콘텐츠 출력물의 저작권보호를 위한 디지털 핑거프린팅 기술에 관한 연구)

  • This paper addresses an image fingerprinting scheme for the print-to-capture model performed by a photo printer and digital camera. When capturing an image by a digital camera, various kinds of distortions such as noise, geometrical distortions, and lens distortions are applied slightly and simultaneously. In this paper, we consider several steps to extract fingerprints from the distorted image in print-and capture scenario. To embed ID into an image as a fingerprint, multi-bits embedding is applied. We embed 64 bits ID information as a fingerprint into spatial domain of color images. In order to restore a captured image from distortions a noise reduction filter is performed and a rectilinear tiling pattern is used as a template. To make the template a multi-bits fingerprint is embedded repeatedly like a tiling pattern into the spatial domain of the image. We show that the extracting is successful from the image captured by a digital camera through the experiment.

  • This study has been made on the basis of the theoretical model of Beeker's time allocation concerning housewives' advance into society-- a primary cause for enlargint the scope of our food service market and developing the food service industry as a whole. The primary purpose of this study is to clarify the close relationship between housewives' activities in the course of allocating their time and the demand for the food service through Beeker's theory of“Total income and Total price”, analyzing the information obtained through the questionaires sent to the housewives in metropolitan areas. The result of the questionaires shows that the demand of food service is closely related to women's market activities. Yet it has become clear that the demand for food service correlates with housewives' allocation of time in terms of sharing profits. As a result, it is true that the increase in housewives' income per hour has brought about the increase of the term of employment and the decrease in their cooking time, thus greatly increasing the opportunities to dine out. In order words, the increase of housewives' income and the decrease in their cooking time have come to make a great contribution to shortening the time needed to take care of family matters while increasing the demand for eating out, or food service. And it is also clear that the common practice to dine out is derived from the reduction in our domestic duties, indicating the choice of social division of labour, but is needs to be noted that the gradual increase in women's income is sure to have exerted a considerable influence on this practice of eating out.

Ball end milling of sculptured surface models by considering machinability (절삭성을 고려한 자유곡면 모형의 볼 엔드 밀링가공에 관한 연구)

  • As compared with other cutting types, the ball end milling process causes a complexity in cutting system and a falling-off of machinability. In order to increase the productivity and efficiency in th NC machining of sculptured surfaces, this study carried out the qualitative linearized evaluation about the ball end milling system and applied their practical expressions to the technological processor at the cutter path planning stage. The evaluated expressions were proved to be adequate for practical use from an accuracy point of view and the estimation models were applied to sculptured surface machining processes for finding variable machining conditions. Consequently, it was recognized that variable machining conditions bring about the dispersion of force system and the reduction of machining time by more than 50%.

Agar Hydrolysates Obtained from Jeju Island Attenuates the LPS-induced Inflammation in In Vitro and In Vivo Zebrafish Embryos (제주산 우뭇가사리 유래 한천 가수분해물의 항염 활성 효과)

  • Previously, agar obtained from Gelidum sp. has a small molecular weight and has the disadvantage of inherent viscosity properties and poor functionality as a dietary fiber. In order to improve aforementioned disadvantages, agar having a fluidity that can be added to food at a higher concentration that a powder agar having a gelling property at low concertation was manufactured. In addition, the anti-inflammatory activity of agar hydrolysates was evaluated to confirm their potential as a functional material. As a result, agar hydrolysates significantly reduced NO levels secreted by LPS-activated macrophages and inhibited the expression of iNOS and COX-2, which are inflammatory mediators that regulates NO secretion in macrophages. Furthermore, in in vivo zebrafish embryos model results demonstrated significant reduction of LPS induced NO production after the treatment of agar hydrolysate hydrolyzed for 360 min. In addition, ROS production and cell death by stresses were also reduced in LPS-exposed embryos after the treatment of agar hydrolysis product hydrolyzed for 360 min. Taken together, agar hydrolysate hydrolyzed for 360 min can be easily added into food due to their fluidity and used as a food ingredient that inhibits inflammation due to their anti-inflammatory property.
