  • This paper proposes an algorithm for the capacitance extraction of general 3-dimensional conductors in an ideal uniform dielectric that uses a high-order quadrature approximation method combined with the typical first-order collocation method to enhance the accuracy and adopts an efficient matrix-vector product algorithm for the model-order reduction to achieve efficiency. The proposed method enhances the accuracy using the quadrature method for interconnects containing corners and vias that concentrate the charge density. It also achieves the efficiency by reducing the model order using the fact that large parts of system matrices are of numerically low rank. This technique combines an SVD-based algorithm for the compression of rank-deficient matrices and Gram-Schmidt algorithm of a Krylov-subspace iterative technique for the rapid multiplication of matrices. It is shown through the performance evaluation procedure that the combination of these two techniques leads to a more efficient algorithm than Gaussian elimination or other standard iterative schemes within a given error tolerance.

  • This paper describes the modification of hull bottom for the air lubrication technique to the passenger boat in service at the Chung-Ju lake, which has a large beam-draft ratio. From numerical analysis of 2-D cavity problem by potential theory, the cavity shape, length and the pressure in cavity are estimated for the simplified geometry of hull bottom, and the non-dimensional parameters affecting air cavity phenomena are investigated. Extensive resistance tests for the model ship which has variation of step height and side strip have been performed to investigate the formation of air cavity and the drag reduction effectiveness. And also, the development of attached cavity to the bottom were observed from the flat bottom made by transparent acrylic plate. From this survey on the modification of bottom shape and the air lubrication technique, the total resistance of model ship could be reduced by about 25% at the design speed compared to the proto type hull form.

  • Present research target to develop the procedure of long-term fatigue analysis of the structural details near the upper rolling chock of IMO type B tank by using the time domain modal analysis technique where both the contact and friction behavior can be accurately simulated. In order to perform the time domain analysis focused on the contact and friction, the entire model of the hull and tank was condensed with DOF reduction technique, which is obtained by transforming the global finite element model into its quasi-static modal coordinate. Modal analysis using the quasi-static deformation modes is chosen as a cost effective time domain simulation method and this is based on the fact that the structural response of the tank is quasi-static. Based on the developed cost effective time domain simulation method, the long-term fatigue analysis procedure for the structural details near the rolling chock and key of independent type tank is targeted to be established. The developed fatigue assessment procedure takes into account, wave induced stress and both contact and friction induced stress without loss of accuracy.

  • Recently, weather radar system has been widely used for effectively monitoring near real-time weather conditions. The radar rainfall estimates are generally relies on the Z-R equation that is an indirect approximation of the empirical relationship. In this regards, the bias in the radar rainfall estimates can be affected by spatial-temporal variations in the radar profile. This study evaluates the uncertainty of the Z-R relationship while considering the rainfall types in the process of estimating the parameters of the Z-R equation in the context of stochastic approach. The radar rainfall estimates based on the Bayesian inference technique appears to be effective in terms of reduction in bias for a given season. The derived Z-R equation using Bayesian model enables us to better represent the hydrological process in the rainfall-runoff model and provide a more reliable forecast.

  • In recent years, malicious codes are being produced using the developing information and communication technology, and it is insufficient to detect them with the existing detection system. In order to accurately and efficiently detect and respond to such intelligent malicious code, an intelligent detection model is required, and in order to maximize detection performance, it is important to train with the main characteristic information set of the malicious code. In this paper, we proposed a technique for designing an intelligent detection model and generating the data required for model training as a set of key feature information through transformation, dimensionality reduction, and feature selection steps. And based on this, the main characteristic information was classified by malicious code. In addition, based on the classified characteristic information, we derived common characteristic information that can be used to analyze and detect modified or newly emerging malicious codes. Since the proposed detection model detects malicious codes by learning with a limited number of characteristic information, the detection time and response are fast, so damage can be greatly reduced and Although the performance evaluation result value is slightly different depending on the learning algorithm, it was found through evaluation that most malicious codes can be detected.

  • A semi-active mass damping (SMD) system with magnetorheological (MR) dampers focusing on low- and mid-rise buildings is proposed in this paper. The main purpose of this study is to integrate the reliable characteristics of the traditional tuned mass damper (TMD) and the superior performance of the active mass damper (AMD) to the new system. In addition, the commonly seen solution of deploying dense seismic dampers throughout the structure nowadays to protect the main structure is also expected to switch to the developed SMD system on the roof with a similar reduction performance. In order to demonstrate this concept, a full-size three-story steel building representing a typical mid-rise building was used as the benchmark structure to verify its performance in real life. A numerical model with the interpolation technique integrated was first established to accurately predict the behavior of the MR dampers. The success of the method was proven through a performance test of the designated MR damper used in this research. With the support of the MR damper model, a specific control algorithm using a continuous-optimal control concept was then developed to protect the main structure while the response of the semi-active mass damper is discarded. The theoretical analysis and the experimental verification from a shaking table test both demonstrated the superior mitigation ability of the method. The proposed SMD system has been demonstrated to be readily implemented in practice.

  • Prediction of corporate bankruptcies has long been an important topic and has been studied extensively in the finance and management literature because it is an essential basis for the risk management of financial institutions. Recently, support vector machines (SVMs) are becoming popular as a tool for bankruptcy prediction because they use a risk function consisting of the empirical error and a regularized term which is derived from the structural risk minimization principle. In addition, they don't require huge training samples and have little possibility of overfitting. However. in order to Use SVM, a user should determine several factors such as the parameters ofa kernel function, appropriate feature subset, and proper instance subset by heuristics, which hinders accurate prediction results when using SVM In this study, we propose a novel hybrid SVM classifier with simultaneous optimization of feature subsets, instance subsets, and kernel parameters. This study introduces genetic algorithms (GAs) to optimize the feature selection, instance selection, and kernel parameters simultaneously. Our study applies the proposed model to the real-world case for bankruptcy prediction. Experimental results show that the prediction accuracy of conventional SVM may be improved significantly by using our model.

  • OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) signals sutler serious nonlinear distortion in the nonlinear HPA(High Power Amplifier) because of high PAPR(Peak Average Power Ratio). Nonlinear distortion can be improved by a pre-distorter, but this pre-distorter is insufficient when the PAPR is very high in an OPFDM system. In this paper, a DFT(Discrete Fourier Transform) transform technique is introduced for PAPR reduction. It is especially important to consider the memory effect of HPA for more precise predistortion. Therefore, in this paper, we consider two models, the TWTA(Traveling-Wave Tube Amplifier) model of Saleh without a memory effect and the HPA memory polynomial model that has a memory effect. We design a pre-distorter and an adaptive pre-distorter that uses the NLMS(Normalized Least Mean Square) algorithm for the compensation of this nonlinear distortion. Without the consideration of a memory effect, the system performance would be degraded, even if the pre-distorter is used for the compensation of the nonlinear distortion. From the simulation results, we can confirm that the proposed system shows an improvement in performance.

  • nm23-H1 gene expression has been inversely correlated with tumor metastatic potential in certain tumors including melanomas, breast carcinomas, and hepatocellular carcinomas. However, its role with respect to the invasive behavior of central nervous system tumors has scarcely been addressed Because cell motility and invasion plays an essential role in metastatic dissemination, we have studied whether motile human glioma cell(U87MG) transfected with nm23-H1 complementary DNA have any alterations in their ability to migrate and invade. There was no significant changes in the shape and size of the cells following nm23-H1 transfection. The role of nm23-H1 in glioma migration and invasion have been evaluated by in vitro simple scratch technique and brain slice invasion model Basal migration ability of nm23-H1 transfectants cell(U87MG-pEGFP-nm23) were lesser than U87MG. Accordingly, U87MG-pEGFP-nm23 didn't migrate away apparently from the tumors implanted site comparing U87MG in brain slice invasion model. These results suggest that nm23-H1 may play an important role in suppressing the human glioma migration and invasion.

  • The equipments mounted on guided-missile undertake heavy vibrational disturbance. Sometimes the equipments mounted on guided-missile go wrong so that the guided-missile flies over unintended place. For the vibration isolation of the equipments mounted on guided-missile, active vibration control was performed. In the case of active vibration technique, the stiffness matrix and the mass matrix are derived based on FEM (ANSYS5.0). Model reduction was carried out and, as a result, we got 7 DOF mass and stiffness matrix. For the sake of FEM model identification, modal experiment was carried out. With the help of Sensitivity Analysis, the natural frequencies of FEM were tuned to those of Experiment. In this work, the Sky Hook and the LQG control theory were adopted for v iteration control using stacked piezoactuator. Experiments were performed with changing excitation frequency from 10 Hz upto 200 Hz and we got frequency response function of guided-missile equipments. The magnitude of 3rd mode of guided-missile equipments is 8.6 % that of Uncontrolled in Skyhook controller and is 3.4 % that of uncontrolled in LQG controller.
