  • Model-based tuning rules of the PID controller are proposed incorporating with real-coded genetic algorithms. The optimal parameter sets of the PID controller for step set-point tracking are obtained based on the first-order time delay model and a real-coded genetic algorithm as an optimization tool. As for assessing the performance of the controllers, performance indices(ISE, IAE and ITAE) are adopted. Then tuning rules are derived using the tuned parameter sets, potential rule models and another real-coded genetic algorithm A set of simulation works is carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed rules.

  • In this paper, a methodology for estimating the model parameters of a discrete-time system and tuning a digital PID controller based on the estimated model and a genetic algorithm is presented. To deal with optimization problems regarding parameter estimation and controller tuning, pseudo-parallel genetic algorithms(PPGAs) are used. The parameters of a discrete-time system are estimated using both the model adjustment technique and a PPGA. The digital PID controller is described by the pulse transfer function and then its three gains are tuned based on both the model reference technique and another PPGA. A set of experimental works on two processes are carried out to illustrate the performance of the proposed method.

  • This paper is concerned with the design of a predictive PID controller which has similar features to the model-based predictive controller. A PID type control structure is defined, which includes prediction of the outputs and the recalculation of new set points using the future set point data. The optimal values of the PID gains are precalculated using the values of gains calculated from an unconstrained generalized predictive control algorithm. Simulation studies demonstrate the performance of the proposed controller and the results are compared with the conventional PID and fuzzy control algorithms.

  • In this paper, we propose a CFWC (CCD and fuzzy PID based width control) scheme to obtain the desired delivery width margin of a vertical rolling mill in hot strip process. A WMS(width measurement system) is composed of two line scan cameras, an edge detection algorithm, a glitch filter, and so on. A dynamic model of the mill is derived from a gauge meter equation in order to design the fuzzy PID controller. The controller is a self-learning structure to select the PID gains from the error and error rate of the width margin. The effectiveness of the proposed CFWC is verified from simulation results under a width disturbance of the entry in the mill. Using a field test, we show that the performance of the width control is improved by the proposed control scheme.

  • In this paper auto-tuning scheme of PID controller based on the reference model has been studied for a Process control system by immune algorithm. Up to this time, many sophisticated tuning algorithms have been tried in order to improve the PID controller performance under such difficult conditions. Also, a number of approaches have been proposed to implement mixed control structures that combine a PID controller with fuzzy logic. However, in the actual plant, they are manually tuned through a trial and error procedure, and the derivative action is switched off. Therefore, it is difficult to tune. Since the immune system possesses a self organizing and distributed memory, it is thus adaptive to its external environment and allows a PDP (Parallel Distributed Processing) network to complete patterns against the environmental situation. Simulation results reveal that reference model basd tuning by immune network suggested in this paper is an effective approach to search for optimal or near optimal process control.

  • Microcomputer-based PID governor which can be provided either stability or rapid response for small hydro power plant at low cost is developed and adapted to the 5 KW model hydro power for the performance test. The effects of PID gains on stability boundaries of the hydraulic turbine generating system is investigated. For the optimum selection of the PID gains, general equations are derived on the base of the experiments. This control system has a good performance at the model of hydro power plant. For the prediction of the control system, a mathematical model was developed and the results of the simulation using this model was matched with the experimental results.

  • In this paper, a new method is proposed for robust proportional- integral - derivative (PID) control that is to ensure specified phase margin and iso - damping property using reduction model. This method is based on the second order plus dead time(SOPDT) reduction model of the high order model. Reduction model used to ensure iso-damping property in the feature frequency. Simulation results gives proof of effectiveness of proposed method.

  • This paper is a study on robust PID controller tuning technique using the frequency region model matching method. To design the robust PID controller satisfying disturbance attenuation and robust tracking property for a reference input first an {{{{ETA _$\infty$}}}} controller satisfying given performances is designed using an H$_{\infty}$ control method, And then the parameters(proportional gain integral gain and derivation gain) of the robust PID controller with the performances of the desinged H$_{\infty}$ controller are determined using the model matching method at frequency domain. in this paper this PID controller tuning technique is applied to PID speed controller design for BLDC motors. Consequently simulation results show that the proposed PID speed controller satisfies load torque disturbance attenuation and robust tracking property and this study has usefulness and applicability for the speed control system; design of BLDC motors.

  • This paper is concerned with applicability of a new type of controllers, called i-PID and GPI in which unknown parts of the plant are taken into account without any modeling procedure, to automatic voltage regulator (AVR) system. First, the procedure for applying i-PID and GPI algorithms to AVR system is proposed, which uses model reduction technique based on the given information of AVR. Second, simulations are given to verify their effectiveness comparing to various PID algorithms including PIDD2 which is four-term controller, that is, consisting of PID and second order derivative terms. Superior response performances of i-PID and GPI in comparison to conventional PID controllers are shown. Moreover, i-PID can highly improve the system robustness with respect to model uncertainties, especially to load variations.
