  • Small area estimation had been studied using data-based methods such as Direct, Indirect, Synthetic methods. However recently, model-based such as based on regression or time series estimation methods are applied to the study. In this paper we investigate a model-data based small area estimation which takes into account the spatial relation among the areas. The Economic Active Population Survey in 2001 are used for analysis and the results from the model based and model-data based estimation are compared with using MSE(Mean squared error), MAE(Mean absolute error) and MB(Mean bias).

  • We have performed a design optimization of a stiffened panel with curvilinear stiffeners using an artificial neural network (ANN) residual kriging based surrogate modeling approach. The ANN residual kriging based surrogate modeling involves two steps. In the first step, we approximate the objective function using ANN. In the next step we use kriging to model the residue. We optimize the panel in an iterative way. Each iteration involves two steps-shape optimization and size optimization. For both shape and size optimization, we use ANN residual kriging based surrogate model. At each optimization step, we do an initial sampling and fit an ANN residual kriging model for the objective function. Then we keep updating this surrogate model using an adaptive sampling algorithm until the minimum value of the objective function converges. The comparison of the design obtained using our optimization scheme with that obtained using a traditional genetic algorithm (GA) based optimization scheme shows satisfactory agreement. However, with this surrogate model based approach we reach optimum design with less computation effort as compared to the GA based approach which does not use any surrogate model.

  • This study proposes a map-based control method to improve a vehicle's lateral stability, and the performance of the proposed method is compared with that of the conventional model-referenced control method. Model-referenced control uses the sliding mode method to determine the compensated yaw moment; in contrast, the proposed map-based control uses the compensated yaw moment map acquired by vehicle stability analysis. The vehicle stability region is calculated by a topological method based on the trajectory reversal method. The performances of model-referenced control and map-based control are compared under various road conditions and driving inputs. Model-referenced control uses a control input to satisfy the linear reference model, and it generates unnecessary tire lateral forces that may lead to worse performance than an uncontrolled vehicle with step steering input on a road with low friction coefficient. The simulation results show that map-based control provides better stability than model-referenced control.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an instructional model using new technologies aiming to secure students' learnability and to enhance the public school values in the rural districts. The present study attempts to suggest a practical e-learning instructional and learning model named Group Dynamics- based Debate Instructional Model', which utilizes unique technology environment conditions in most. To develop the model, concepts of group dynamics and debate-based instructional models were reviewed. And in-service teachers in two public schools in a certain rural district were interviewed in order to collect and analyze their needs for a teaching and learning model with which they utilizes unique technology conditions as environment in most. Based on literature review and the need analysis, a group dynamics-based debate instructional model has been suggested in terms of conceptual model. And then expert assessment composing of five in-service teachers from the model schools was implemented twice in order to acquire the suggested model validation, followed by the model validation by a group of experts. Then a revised group dynamics-based debate instructional model has been finally suggested. The group dynamics-based debate instructional model is expected to build up members' affective connection in the process, to generate group value, or collective intelligence, and to establish positive discussion culture. Furthermore, beyond of just utilizing the existing materials, learners are encouraged to develop and collect their own materials and data such as expert's interview, or public news for their argument or refutation. In doing so, learners enhance their learnability as well as accountability, prompting self-directed learning, and establishing appropriate discussion culture resulting in positive learning outcomes.

  • In this paper, a decision-tree-based Markov model for phrase break prediction is proposed. The model takes advantage of the non-homogeneous-features-based classification ability of decision tree and temporal break sequence modeling based on the Markov process. For this experiment, a text corpus tagged with parts-of-speech and three break strength levels is prepared and evaluated. The complex feature set, textual conditions, and prior knowledge are utilized; and chunking rules are applied to the search results. The proposed model shows an error reduction rate of about 11.6% compared to the conventional classification model.

  • Orbit-raising is an important step to place spacecraft from parking orbits into working orbits. Attitude control system design is crucial in the success of orbit-raising. Several text books have discussed this design and focused mainly on the traditional methods based on single-input single-output (SISO) transfer function models. These models are not good representations for many orbit-raising control systems which have multiple thrusters and each thruster has impact on the attitude defined by all outputs. Only one published article is known to use a more suitable multi-input multi-output (MIMO) Euler angle model in spacecraft orbit-raising attitude control system design. In this paper, a quaternion based MIMO model for the orbit-raising attitude control system design is proposed. The advantages of using quaternion based model for orbit-raising control system designs are (a) there is no need for mathematical transformations because the attitude measurements are normally given by quaternion, (b) quaternion based model does not depend on rotational sequences, which reduces the chance of human errors, and (c) the singular point of reduced quaternion model is the farthest from the operational point where linearization is performed. We will show that performance of quaternion model based design will be as good as the performance of Euler angle model based design for orbit-raising problem.

  • The purpose of this study is to design a Content-based Korean Class model using Flipped learning for foreign students. The class model that presents on this paper will lead the language learning through content learning, also it will be enable the student more active and to have an initiative in the class. Prior to designing a Content-based Korean Class model using Flipped learning, the concepts and educational significance and characteristics of flip learning were reviewed through previous studies. Then, It emphasizes the necessity of teaching method adapting Flipped learning to Content-based teaching method in Korean language education. It also suggests standards and principles of composition in Contents-based teaching method using Flipped learning. After designing the instructional model based on the suggested standards and principles, it presents a course of instruction about how learning methods, contents and activities should be done step by step. The Content-based Korean class model using the Flipped learning will be an alternative approach to overcome the limitations of teacher-centered teaching methods and lecture-teaching methods which are the dominant of present classroom environment.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore ecological concepts, epistemological reasoning and reasoning processes through constructing 'food web and food pyramid' in ecology. We conducted classes which involved a 'food web and food pyramid' for $6^{th}$ grade students. Each class is constructed of small groups to do modeling and epistemological reasoning through communication. The researcher had videotaped and recorded each class and have made transcription about classes. We analysed patterns of 'food web and food pyramid models' and reasoning processes according to scientific epistemology using transcription data and student outputs. As a result, students represented phenomenon-based reasoning, relation-based reasoning and model-based reasoning in scientific epistemology from their modeling. Students usually did relation-based reasoning and model-based reasoning in food web which explains ecological phenonenon, while they usually did model-based reasoning in food pyramid which expects ecological phenomenon. Student's reasoning can be limited when they have misconception of scientific knowledge and are limited by fragmentary knowledge. This represents that students has to do relation-based reasoning and model-based reasoning is beneficial in their ecological model. It also suggests that students need to define correct-conception related to ecological modeling(food web, food pyramid).

  • Accurate household projections are essential for sectors such as housing supply and tax policy planning, given the rapid social changes like declining birthrates, an aging population, and a rise in single-person households that impact household size and type. Korea introduced its first register-based census in 2015, transitioning from five-year general survey-based approach to an annual administrative data-based census. This change in census allows for more frequent and effective capturing the rapid demographic shifts and trends. However, this change in census has caused challenges in future projection by the existing household projection model due to the rapid dynamics. This paper proposes a new household projection method, the N-point Modified Exponential Model (MEM), that accurately reflects register-based census data and mitigates the impact of rapid demographic changes, in three types: the Weighted N-point MEM, the Regression-based N-point MEM, and the Rolling Weighted N+point MEM. Using register-based census data from 2016 to 2020 to forecast household headship rates by age, household size, and household type to 2051, the N-point modified exponential model outperformed the existing model in both long- and short-term forecast accuracy, suggesting its suitability as a future household projection model for Korea.
