  • Mechanical anchorage can substitute a standard hook. To enhance the workability and economical benefit of mechanical anchorage, the size of anchor plate should be optimized. In this paper, the pull-out behaviors such as strength, failure mode, and crack patterns of mechanically anchored reinforcement in concrete are investigated using nonlinear finite element analysis. The nonlinear finite element analysis results are consistent with the experimental results. These results show that the optimal anchor plates can be designed using the nonlinear finite element analysis.

  • The design characteristics of circular vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers are studied by using a newly developed equivalent network. Optical parameters, such as the stop-band or the reflectivity of periodic mirrors and the resonance wavelength, are explored for the design of these structures. To evaluate the differential quantum efficiency and the threshold current density, a transverse resonance condition of modal transmission-line theory is also utilized. This approach dramatically reduces the computational time as well as gives an explicit insight to explore the optical characteristics of circular vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs).

  • A single w& optical fiber strain gauge subjected to the excited PZT-plate is presented which was obtained using a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. This paper has been performed the considerations to the experimental situation In which the dynamical behavior of a optical fiber strain gauge is illustrated. A comparison is reported between the dynamic response of a optical fiber strain gauge and the semiconductor strain gauge in the frequency range 5-50Hz. This result is shown in very good usage as the dynamical measurement of the low strain below l.mu..epsilon. by this system.

  • This paper presents an analysis of the chaotic behavior in the discrete-time chaotic generator fabricated by CMOS technology. An approximated empirical equation is extracted from the measurement data of a nonlinear function block. Then the bifurcation diagram and Lyapunov exponent and time waveforms and frequency responses of the chaotic generator are calculated and simulated. And results of experiments in the chaotic circuit with the $\pm$2.5V power supply and clock rate of 10KHz are shown, and analysed.

  • Damage detection methods using vibration modes are investigated on ring structures and. modal behavior of the slightly asymmetric rings is examined. Mode shapes changes, MSER(modal strain energy ratio) and MCR(modal curvature ratio) are applied to identify the locations of faults or damages. Parameters are calculated and compared by finite element analysis on rings with designed local damages. Damages are modeled as reduced stiffness in the analysis. The results show MSER and MCR can be proper factors to detect local damages in ring structures.

  • In this study, static Pile load tests and PDA for open-ended steel pipe pile($\phi$ = 609.6 mm, t = 14 mm) penetrated into the gravel layer(GP - GM) was accomplished and axial load distribution was measured. Based on the tests results, the ultimate bearing capacity and axial load bearing mode were examined. Also, the ultimate pile capacity was calculated by APIL $E^{PLUS}$./.

  • The purpose of this work is to investigate the dynamics of an atomic wave packet whose center-of-mass motion is quantized in a resonant standing wave cavity field. The mechanical aspect of the matter-field interaction has been extensively studied In the theme of atomic beam deflection, diffraction, or reflection by a standing-wave field. The effect caused in the behavior of spontaneous emission by the atomic center-of-mass motion, classical and quantized, in a standing wave cavity mode has been studied, and recently the one-atom laser with quantized atomic center-of-mass motion has been investigated. • The ultrasonic bonding method and its feasibility are investigated in this work for joining the micro components and MEMS packaging. The ultrasonic bonding process is analyzed using a lumped mode, and preliminary experiments using the eutectic solder and copper pin were carried out to verify possibility to MEMS packaging. The ultrasonic bonding process appears to be adequate for MEMS packaging by providing localized heating at the selected area. Microscopic behavior of the bond joint through ultrasonic vibration needs further investigation.
