  • In this paper, we present the compatibility study results including the frequency sharing criteria between new allocation to maritime mobile satellite service and Earth exploration satellite service in the 7/8 GHz. The transmitting Earths station of MMSS in the 8025 - 8400 MHz band would make harmful interference to the receiving Earth station of EESS operating in the same frequency band. In order to ensure the compatibility with EESS, the separation distance is provided as a frequency sharing criteria. The republic of Korea has a plan to launch the geostationary satellite around 2017 and EESS Earth station will be operated in 8025 - 8400 MHz band. Therefore, we calculate the interference levels and separation distance using the system parameters of two Earth station systems. As results of the study, the separation distances for LOS path and Non-LOS path due to the geographical characteristics are shown around 471 km and 200 km, respectively.

  • This research aims an optimal placement of Mobile Base Station (MBS) under HAP based network configurations with the restrictions of HAP capabilities. With clustering algorithm based on BIRCH, mobile ground nodes are clustered and the centroid of the clusters will be the location of MBS. The hierarchical structure of BIRCH enables mobile node management by CF tree and the restrictions of maximum nodes per MBS and maximum radio coverage are accomplished by splitting and merging clusters. Mobility models based on Jeju island are used for simulations and such restrictions are met with proper placement of MBS.

  • In this paper, carrier frequency offset and 2-D AoA (Angle-of-Arrival) estimation methods are proposed for an OFDM-based MRS (Mobile Relay Station) with UCA (Uniform Circular Array). The proposed methods are performed by using the preamble symbol in downlink and can improve the performance of CFO estimation significantly, compared with the conventional method. The proposed methods can be divided into two methods (method 1 and method 2) depending on the order of the AoA estimation and CFO estimation. It is shown by computer simulation under Mobile WiMAX environments that the proposed methods can estimate the CFOs and AoAs of adjacent BSs effectively.

  • This paper focuses on a development of a sensor system measuring locations of a vehicle to localize a mobile robot while it tracks on the track (location sensor) . Also it focuses on a system configuration identifying the vehicle's orientation and distance from the object while it is stationary at certain station (position sensor) . As for the location sensor it consists of a set of sensors with a combined guiding and counting sensor, and an address-coded sensor to localize the vehicle while moving on the rail. For the position sensor a PSD (Position Sensitive Device) sensor with photo-switches sensor to measure the offset and orientation of the vehicle at each station is introduced. Both sensor systems are integrated with a microprocessor as a data relay to the main computer controlling the vehicle. The location sensor system is developed and its performance for a mobile robot is verified by experiments. The position measuring system is proposed and is robust to the environmental variation. Moreover, the two kinds of sensor systems guarantee a low cost application and high reliability.

  • In 3GPP2 wireless data communications, Mobile IP is used to support macro mobility and PDSN performs the function of foreign agent. The mobility supported when a mobile station moves from one PDSN to another is called a macro mobility. In this Paper, we first examine the possibilities of packet loss and change of packet sequences that can be occurred in macro mobility. Then, to resolve such Problems, we suggest a seamless handoff algorithm in PDSNs based on packet sequence control for each of down-stream and up-stream cases respectively.

  • In this paper, We analysis of effective coverage extension for Tri-sector cellular systems using Multi-hop Relay based on IEEE802.16j system. In the proposed international standard of IEEE 802.16j MMR (Mobile Multi-hop Relay) use of the omni-directional antenna, 3-sector and 6-sector antenna is considered to Base Station and Relay Station. Omni-directional antenna service can offer as all directions but a throughput decreases due to the signal interference of near Relay Stations. In the directional antenna, cause of an interference with the base station which it arranges an antenna so that a beam can have the direct and does with neighbor Base Station and Relay Station can be reduced interference, therefore the effective throughput is higher than the omni-directional antenna system. But, In case of Base Station and Relay Station use the directional antenna, the efficiency which the directional antenna has the Co-channel interference due to in the different cell by the channel reuse is decreased. In this study, we propose the structure of arranging the Base Station and Relay Station having the directional antenna in the NBTC, WBTC antenna in a multi-tier. It compared and analyzed with the mode that the multi-hop Relay Station has the omni-directional antenna, Relay Station are used the NBTC antenna and the WBTC antenna system also, We analyze a relation between the performance degradation and the cell coverage extension which it follows because the number of hop in the multi-hop Relay Station.

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive Relay Station (RS) coverage extension scheme for the Mobile Multi-hop Relay (MMR) systems. The MMR system with a non-transparent mode RS can be used to extend BS coverage using the remaining capacity of the Base Station(BS). Thus, the call blocking may occur in RSs when calls arrive very often in Multi-hop Relay Base Station (MR-BS). In the proposed scheme, RSs can be connected to the neighbor MMR system as the 2ndtier RSs if the neighbor MMR system services low traffic load when calls are frequently arrived in MR-BS or RSs. By doing so, the MMR system can accept a new call without call blocking. Through numerical results, we demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional MMR system in terms of the throughput and call blocking probability of MMR systems.

  • In CDMA cellular systems, a handoff process in which the mobile station (MS) can communicate with the target base station without interrupting the communication with the current base station makes contact with the target base station before it breaks with the station it is operating on. An MS requests a soft handoff to a neighbor base station (BS) whenever the pilot strength received from the neighbor BS exceeds the handoff threshold, even though the MS may not actually be approaching to the neighbor BS. Since two traffic channels have to assign to an MS during the soft handoff period, the utilization of traffic channels is wasted. Thus, an analysis of handoff rate is a key to understand and evaluate channel efficiency. In this paper, a simple and straightforward mathematical analysis method for evaluate obtaining direction-based soft handoff rate and the number of handoff calls in CDMA cellular systems is proposed.

  • In this paper, we evaluate the performance of VoIP in OFDMA-based relay systems with various capabilities of relays. We classify relays according to capability as "mid-capability (MC)" and "high-capability (HC)" relay. In system with HC relays, not only base station (BS) but also relay station (RS) performs scheduling at its ova whereas only BS performs scheduling in system with MC relays using the information reported by MS (i.e. the received signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of mobile station (HS), the amount of MS traffic, etc). In system with MC relays, the controling overhead of BS is larger than that of system with HC relays. However, since BS has all MS information, efficient resource allocation and scheduling is possible. We derived the "average packet delay," "good packet ratio," and "cell goodput" in a VoIP environment. The simulation results demonstrate that the system with MC relays has better VoIP performance over that with HC relays.

  • As the size of container ships continues to increase, not many existing harbors can host the super-container ship due to its increased draft and the corresponding dredging requires huge budget. In addition, the minimization of waiting and loading/offloading time is the most important factor in harbor competitiveness. In this regard, mobile-harbor concept has been developed in Korea to achieve much improved harbor capacity and efficiency. In developing the concept, one of the most important elements is the operability of crane between two or more floating bodies in side-by-side arrangement. The container ship is to be stationed through a hawser connection to an outside-harbor fixed-pile station with the depth allowing its large draft. The mobile harbors with smart cranes are berthed to the sides of its hull for loading/offloading containers and transportation. For successful operation, the relative motions between the two or more floating bodies with hawser/fender connections have to be within allowable range. Therefore, the reliable prediction of the relative motions of the multiple floating bodies with realistic mooring system is essential to find the best hull particulars, hawser/mooring/fender arrangement, and crane/docking-station design. Time-domain multi-hull-mooring coupled dynamic analysis program is used to assess the hydrodynamic interactions among the multiple floating bodies and the global performance of the system. Both collinear and non-collinear wind-wave-current environments are applied to the system. It is found that the non-collinear case can equally be functional in dynamics view compared to the collinear case but undesirable phenomena associated with vessel responses and hawser tensions can also happen at certain conditions, so more care needs to be taken.
