Telecommunications Infrastructures and Services Development and Challenges in Nepal

  • The world's unique geographical, multilingual, multiethnic, multiracial and multi religious Himalayan country Nepal has more than 100 years history on telephony service and it has been formulating appropriate policy and regulation for the adoption of new technology, introducing the competitive market environment for the overall development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructures and application of ICT service and tools for socio-economic transformation. The Nepalese market seems to be continuously growing and having huge demand of mobile telephony and internet subscriptions trend. The ICT infrastructure development in difficult geographical area is quite challenging and thus operators are focusing mobile telephony and mobile internet services. Nepal has been doing its best effort on formulating policy and regulation, adoption key strategies for ICT sector development and at the same time joining hands with international and regional bodies such as ITU, SAARC etc for ICT sector development. Due to geographical diversity, policy and regulatory barriers in some extent, power supply constraints and low affordability from customers on ICT tools and services, Nepal has been facing challenges on ICT infrastructure development. However, the national statistics on ICT, Networked Readiness Index and ICT Development Index show that Nepal has done quite good progress and is keeping its pace on ICT development despite the these challenges. Moreover, there seems to be quite uncovered market segments on internet service and big opportunity on ICT sector development in Nepal in the days to come.

A Study on the Use Intention of Xiaomi in Korean Market

  • Purpose - The portability, functionality, and convenience of smart phones are constantly updated. With the rapid popularization of users of mobile terminals, Xiaomi is also developing rapidly. In February 2015, the users of Xiaomi exceeded 100 million people. As a transnational industry, Xiaomi has developed rapidly in not only China but also Korea. However, through the literature review, there is no radmissible study on the Xiaomi mobile telephones in the Korean market, so it is necessary to study the Xiaomi mobile phones in Korean market. Research design, data, and methodology - Figure analysis of data and social science analytical software of IBM SPSS AMOS 23.0 and IBM Statistics 23.0 were used for all the data researched. Results - First, the innovative diffusion temperament and the compatibility of Xiaomi have positive impacts on achievement expectations and effort expectations. Second, the innovative diffusion temperament and the complexity of Xiaomi have negative impacts on achievement expectations and effort expectations. Third, the innovative diffusion characteristics and the relative superiority of Xiaomi have positive impacts on achievement expectations and effort expectations. Conclusions - Through the analysis of the prior study, the innovation acceptance characteristics consist of compatibility, complexity, relative superiority, observation possibility, and the attempt possibility; the technical acceptance characteristics consist of achievement expectations, effort expectations, social influence, promotion condition, the study conducts relevant research on the continued use intention and analyze the hypothesis of research model.

  • Fixed-mobile convergence services can be defined as the combination of previously separate fixed and mobile services, and networks and commercial practices. Examples of fixed-mobile convergence services include single voice-mail box, single number and unified messaging across fixed and mobile networks. Recently as more voice is transferred to mobile networks, convergence services between fixed and mobile become more important. In Korea convergence services are only starting to become established, and are likely to become an important part of any operator's offering. In this paper, we search the different levels of fixed-mobile convergence services and the trends and regulations for fixed-mobile convergence services in major countries. And at the same time, we also suggest the corresponding Marketing strategies by operators related to fixed-mobile convergence services.

Asymmetric Regulation of Mobile Access Charges and Consumer Welfare with Price Regulation

  • Asymmetric regulation as applied to mobile termination rates refers to regulatory arrangements in which different mobile operators charge different termination rates, even though the services provided are essentially identical. The asymmetric regulation has been frequently used as a regulatory tool to support new entrants to a mobile market. This paper examines the economic effects of asymmetric regulation of mobile termination rates using a theoretical model and its simulation. The result shows that when there is no noticeable difference in brand loyalty between mobile operators with the high degree of substitutability between services provided by mobile operators, and the costs of new entrants are low, a reduction in the asymmetry of mobile access prices results in an enhancement of consumer welfare. These findings provide positive evidence for the argument that in certain situations asymmetric pricing of mobile access services may be counterproductive for consumer welfare.

  • In this work, we introduce new next generation activematrix backplane technologies for large-size AMOLED displays. Among the general requirements for successful market launch of AMOLED TVs, backplane issues are discussed. It will be shown that the amorphous oxide TFT is most suitable due to large scalability and superior cost effectiveness. Development status and current challenges of amorphous oxide TFTs are discussed.

Empirical Study on Unit Bias under the Flat Rate Pricing in the Korean Mobile Telecommunication Market (이동통신시장에서의 단위편향 소비행태 발생에 관한 실증연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to empirically identify whether unit bias exists or not under the flat rate pricing in the Korean mobile telecommunication market and to give the desirable form of pricing plans for minimizing this irrational behaviors. Our results show that with the flat rate pricing consumers tends to make more voice or data traffic over their optimal consumption level, meaning the existence of unit bias in the Korean mobile market. These results imply that under the current pricing plans subscribers may pay higher monthly fee than their optimal cost which maximizes their utility, for using the telecommunications service. Thus, policy makers need to consider adopting mobile operators' segmentation of the flat rate pricing plans for the reduction of subscribers' telecommunications costs and the improvement of consumer welfare.

  • The telecommunications market is expanding rapidly and becoming more substitutive. In this environment, demand forecasting is very difficult, yet important for both practitioners and researchers. in this paper, we adopt the modeling approach proposed dy Jun and Park [6]. The basic premise is that demand patterns result from choice behavior, where customers choose a product to maximize their utility. We apply a choice-based substitutive diffusion model to the Korean mobile telecommunication service market where digital service has completely replaced analog service. In comparison with Bass-type multigeneration models. our model provides superior fitting and forecasting performance. The choice-based model is useful in that it enables the description of such complicated environments and provides the flexibility to include marketing mix variables such as price and advertising in the regression analysis.

  • Industry for mobile camera module is a complex one based on various technologies, including mechanics, communication technology, material engineering, and electronics which are connected closely. This industry has been already known to a higher value-added business, and as going into an aging society, is expected a market growth. Also, it is a knowledge based component industry and each components assembled into product is almost home made items. This characteristics made many small and medium and venture enterprises participate in this area. Using this study, related companies refer the status and make the decision for commercialize the technology in the internal and world market.

  • China's mobile communication market has been growing quantitatively and qualitatively since 2000. Currently, it has secured 1.27 billion mobile subscribers and many of the Korean companies try to enter the Chinese market and cooperation with companies in China is being held. Thus understanding of the Chinese markets is the key to better prepare for future international competition. This study is to identify factors affecting switching intentions and behaviors for Chinese mobile subscribers to other mobile service providers by the PPM and it is to derive correlations between strategies of mobile service providers and users' switching intention by the groups classified by ARPU. We conducted a survey targeting 270 Chinese mobile users and analyze it by using Smart PLS 2.0. In conclusion, push effects have positive influence on intention to switching and relational switching cost among mooring effect have significantly negative influence on intention to switching In particular, intention to switching depending on the groups classified by a level of their ARPU have been shown as significantly different. This study will extend theoretical range of PPM theory in explaining users' switching behaviors and contribute to establish strategies to enter the chinese market.
