  • This paper proposes a single sign-on scheme in which a mobile user offers his credential information to a home network running the OSGi (Open Service Gateway Initiative) service platform, to obtain user authentication and control a remote device through a mobile device using this authentication scheme, based on SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language). Especially by defining the single sign-on profile to overcome the handicap of the low computing and memory capability of the mobile device, we provide a clue to applying automated user authentication to control a remote device via a mobile device for distributed mobile environments such as a home network based on OSGi.

  • The JXTA was made in order to solve the problem of being generated with the computer platform suggested with the P2P(Peer-to-peer) method in the distributed computing. JXTA makes a communication between the various network and the devices is connected to a network which possible. It was designed to the client having the minimum computing ability could attend in the peer-to-peer network. However, for smoothly applying JXTA in the wireless environment, there is a limit with the limited resource of the Mobile Device. By using the Relay of the JXTA based for the Mobile Device, this paper implemented the P2P service which is flexibly effective in the wireless network environment.

  • The problem of robot navigation and control is a complex task. Its complexity and characteristics depends on the characteristics of the environment robot inhabits, robot construction (mechanical abilities to move, sense) and the job the robot is supposed to do. In this paper we propose a hybrid programming approach to mobile robot navigation and control in an indoor environment. In our approach we used declarative, procedural, and object oriented programming paradigms and we utilized some advantages of our distributed computing architecture. The programming languages corresponding to the paradigms we used were C, C++ and Prolog. In the paper we present some details of our mobile robot hardware and software structure, focusing on the software design and implementation.

  • This paper addresses the issue involved in dependability of distributed mobile agents in the Internet environment. We propose an architectural framework for the Internet applications making mobile agents into fault-tolerant. The replication of agents and data is of great importance to achieve fault tolerance in distributed systems over the Internet. This research focuses on the replication component for the proposed fault-tolerant mobile agent framework. We present and analyze the performance results obtained when doing simulation study on the effects of the degree of replication, the active and passive replication strategies, and the replication scale.

  • This paper implemented the u-Healthcare Context Information System (HCIS) supporting ubiquitous healthcare by using location, health and titrating environment information collected from sensors/devices equipped in home for healthcare home service. The HCIS is based on the Distributed Object Group Framework (DOGF), a management model which can customize distributed resources, and manages various context information, applications and devices as a group in healthcare home environment, as one more logical units. Also, this system provides continuous healthcare multimedia service considering a resident's location using Mobile Proxy, and the healthcare context information through Context Provider to a resident in home. For verifying execution of our system, we implemented the seamless multimedia service based on resident's location and the prescription/advice and schedule notification/alarm service as healthcare applications in home. And we showed the executing results of healthcare home service by using service device existed in the residential space on which the resident is located according to the healthcare scenario.

  • A DHT(Distributed Hash Table) based P2P is a method that compensates disadvantages of the existing unstructured P2P method. If a DHT algorithm is used, it can do fast data search and maintain search efficiency independent of the number of peers. The peers in a DHT method send messages periodically to keep the routing table updated. In a mobile environment, the peers in a DHT method should send messages more frequently to keep the routing table updated and reduce the failure of requests. However this results in increasing the overall network traffic. In this paper, we propose a method to reduce the update load of a routing table in the existing DHT by updating it in a reactive way. In the proposed reactive method, a routing table is updated only if a data request is coming whereas it is updated periodically in the existing proactive method. We perform experiments using Chord simulator(I3) made by UC Berkely. The experimental results show the performance improvement of the proposed method compared to the existing method.

  • The tactical network has several different characteristics compared with commercial internet network such as hierarchical topology, dynamic topology changing and wireless link based connectivity. For considering IP mobility management in the tactical network, current mobility management using Mobile IP(MIP) is not suitable with some reasons such as non-optimal routing paths and single point of failure. Proxy Mobile IP(PMIP) which supporting network-based mobility in hierarchical manner can provide optimal routing path in the tactical network environment, but centralized anchor is still remained a threat to the stability of the tactical network which changes its topology dynamically. In this paper, we propose PMIP-based distributed mobility management for the tactical network environment. From our design, routing paths are always configured in optimized way, as well as path is recovered quickly when the mobility anchor of user is failed. From numerical analysis, comparing to other mobility scheme, result shows that the proposed scheme can reduce packet transmission cost and latency in tactical network model.

  • In this paper, we propose a framework for synchronization of spatial data between mobile devices and a server by using SyncML(Synchronization Markup Language) that is standard specification for synchronization protocol. We used GML (Geographic Markup Language) to support interoperability of spatial data between various data sources. We also used metadata and catalog service to access and integrate distributed spatial data, considering relationships of spatial data and non-spatial data.

  • The robots that will be needed in the near future are human-friendly robots that are able to coexist with humans and support humans effectively. To realize this, humans and robots need to be in close proximity to each other as much as possible. Moreover, it is necessary for their interactions to occur naturally. It is desirable for a robot to carry out human following, as one of the human-affinitive movements. The human-following robot requires several techniques: the recognition of the moving objects, the feature extraction and visual tracking, and the trajectory generation for following a human stably. In this research, a predictable intelligent space is used in order to achieve these goals. An intelligent space is a 3-D environment in which many sensors and intelligent devices are distributed. Mobile robots exist in this space as physical agents providing humans with services. A mobile robot is controlled to follow a walking human using distributed intelligent sensors as stably and precisely as possible. The moving objects is assumed to be a point-object and projected onto an image plane to form a geometrical constraint equation that provides position data of the object based on the kinematics of the intelligent space. Uncertainties in the position estimation caused by the point-object assumption are compensated using the Kalman filter. To generate the shortest time trajectory to follow the walking human, the linear and angular velocities are estimated and utilized. The computer simulation and experimental results of estimating and following of the walking human with the mobile robot are presented.

  • With rapid growth of Mobile Ad-Hoc network(MANET) and P2P service technologies, many attempts for integration of MANET and P2P service and development of such applications are actively introduced recently. The implementation of stable P2P service, however, is very difficult challenge because of the high mobility of mobile users in MANET. In this paper, we propose an efficient mobile P2P service, which shares and manages multimedia data files efficiently in mobile environment, uses distributed caches to store files considering their popularities in order to achieve high performance. The performance of proposed P2P service is evaluated by an analytic model and compared with those of existing DHT based P2P service in peer-to-peer network.
