  • Given the increased interest in ubiquitous computing, wireless sensor network has been researched widely. The localization service which provides the location information of mobile user, is one of important service provided by sensor network. Many methods to obtain the location information of mobile user have been proposed. However, these methods were developed for only one mobile user so that it is hard to extend for multiple mobile users. If multiple mobile users start the localization process concurrently, there could be interference of beacon or ultrasound that each mobile user transmits. In the paper, we propose APL(Adaptive Power Control based Resource Allocation Technique for Efficient Localization Technique), the localization technique for multiple mobile nodes based on adaptive power control in mobile wireless sensor networks. In APL, collision of localization between sensor nodes is prevented by forcing the mobile node to get the permission of localization from anchor nodes. For this, we use RTS(Ready To Send) packet type for localization initiation by mobile node and CTS(Clear To Send) packet type for localization grant by anchor node. NTS(Not To Send) packet type is used to reject localization by anchor node for interference avoidance and STS(Start To Send) for synchronization between 모anchor nodes. At last, the power level of sensor node is controled adaptively to minimize the affected area. The experimental result shows that the number of interference between nodes are increased in proportion to the number of mobile nodes and APL provides efficient localization.

  • Accurate locating for the mobile target remains a challenge in various applications of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Unfortunately, most of the typical localization algorithms perform well only in the WSN with densely distributed sensor nodes. The non-localizable problem is prone to happening when a target moves into the WSN with sparsely distributed sensor nodes. To solve this problem, we propose a collaborative and predictive localization algorithm (CPLA). The Gaussian mixture model (GMM) is introduced to predict the posterior trajectory for a mobile target by training its prior trajectory. In addition, the collaborative and predictive schemes are designed to solve the non-localizable problems in the two-anchor nodes locating, one-anchor node locating and non-anchor node locating situations. Simulation results prove that the CPLA exhibits higher localization accuracy than other tested predictive localization algorithms either in the WSN with sparsely distributed sensor nodes or in the WSN with densely distributed sensor nodes.

  • CSS (Chirp Spread Spectrum) specified in IEEE 802.15.4a can be used for ranging applications. In this paper, we apply the CSS to estimate the coordinates of a mobile robot. Four anchor nodes are installed at known positions and a tag node is attached to the target mobile robot. By CSS ranging, we measure the distances between each anchor and the tag node. Based on the measured distances, the coordinates of the mobile robot can be calculated by the method of trilateration. However the calculated coordinates are not accurate because of the errors of the measured distances. Therefore we propose an algorithm for reducing the effect of the errors. The proposed algorithm is executed with the extended Kalman filter. Through localization experiments, we show the performance of the proposed algorithm and the accuracy of the estimated position.

  • The network-based IP mobility solution - Proxy MIPv6 provides a mobile node with local mobility support without requiring MIPv6 functionality of the mobile node by using two principle functional entities, LMA (Local Mobility Anchor) and MAG (Mobile Access Gateway) located in a Proxy MIPv6 domain. Yet, in case that a mobile node moves into a mobile network located in the domain, the mobile node can't receive the local mobility support any more because it can't communicate with the MAG. This paper proposes a scheme to support nested network mobility in a Proxy MIPv6 domain by adding MAG functionality to a mobile router in the mobile network and evaluates the performance of the proposed scheme. Performance analysis shows that the proposed scheme can increase the performance of handover delay, signaling costs, and packet loss ratio.

  • In the Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6), the data transmission performance may be degraded when the two communicating hosts are located within the same mobile domain, since all the data packet shall be delivered by way of Local Mobility Anchor (LMA). In this paper we propose an extensional scheme of PMIPv6 using binding query. In the proposed Query-based PMIPv6 (Q-PMIPv6) scheme, the Mobile Access Gateway (NAG) of Correspondent Node (CN) sends a binding query to LMA to obtain the Proxy Care-of-Address of Mobile Node (MN). Since then, CN and MN can communicate with each other by using an optimized data path. For comparison, we performed the numerical analysis and the ns-2 simulations for the proposed Q-PMIPv6 scheme and the existing PMIPv6 and PMIPv6 Localized Routing (PMIPv6-LR). From the results, we can see that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing PMIPv6 and PMIPv6-LR schemes in terms of the signaling control and data delivery costs.

  • The Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) has been proposed to accommodate frequent mobility of the Mobile Node. HMIPv6 can effectively reduce the signaling overhead and latency. However, it has a problem that the registration of a mobile node concentrates on the furthest MAP(Mobility Anchor Point) when the mobile node enters into a new domain. This paper proposes a new load distribution mechanism by using the concept of Nash Bargaining Solution. The main advantage of the proposed scheme can prevent load concentration from being registered to the specified MAP based on the weight value according to the available resource-ratio of a MAP. With a simulation study, the proposed scheme can improve network performance under widely diverse traffic load intensities.

  • Mobility Anchor Points are used for the mobility management in HMIPv6 networks. Currently a mobile node selects the MAP farthest away from itself as a new MAP among available candidates when it undertakes a macro handoff. With this technique, however, the traffic tends to be concentrated at a MAP with the largest domain size and the communication cost increases due to the distance between the mobile node and the MAP. In this work, we proposed a cost effective MAP selection scheme. When leaving the current MAP domain. the mobile node calculates the optimum MAP domain size to minimize the local mobility cost at the new MAP domain considering mobile node's velocity and packet transmission rate. The mobile node then selects a MAP domain of size close to the optimum domain size calculated among the candidate MAP domains. In this way, it is possible for the mobile node to select an optimal MAP adaptively taking the network and node states into account, thus reducing the communication cost.

  • Proxy Mobile IPv6(PMIPv6) is a network-based mobility management protocol and it does not require mobile node's involving in mobility management. In PMIPv6, the Mobile Access Gateway (MAG) incurs a high signaling cost to update the location of a mobile node to the remote Local Mobility Anchor (LMA) if it moves frequently. It may cause excessive signaling traffic and increase a high traffic load on LMA. Therefore, we propose a new mobility management scheme in proxy mobile IPv6 networks with dynamic paging support. To minimize signaling overhead, in our proposal, the size of the paging area is determined dynamically according the changes of mobility and traffic patterns of the mobile node. An analytic model is applied to determine the optimal size of the paging area. The cost analysis using fluid flow model presented in this paper shows that our proposal can achieve performance superior that of PMIPv6 scheme.
