  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the applicability of surface-wave techniques for the evaluation of the crack-repairing performance of an epoxy injection method in concrete. In this study, box-shaped concrete specimens with four different crack depths were made with identical mix proportions. The specimens with different crack depths were completely repaired using the same epoxy injection method. The spectral energy transmission ratio of surface waves is used as an index to differentiate the effects of crack depth and crack-repairing performance. The decrease of spectral energy transmission ratio in accordance with the increase of crack depth was identified before repairing. Furthermore, the spectral energy transmission ratio increased after the crack-repairing process in all specimens. The spectral energy transmission ratio is considered as a great indicator for estimating the crack-repairing performance of the epoxy injection method; the ratio was recovered up to almost 95% of the uncracked condition.

  • Ultrasonic Vibrator is designed to achieve the maximum vibration amplitude at 30 kHz by in-cluding a horn (diameter, 40 mm), mechanical vibration amplifier at the top of the ultrasonic vibrator in the system and making the complete system resonate. In addition, it is experimentally visualized by particle imaging velocimetry (PIV) that the acoustic streaming velocity in the gap is at maximum when the gap between the ultrasonic vibrator and stationary plate agrees with the multiples of half-wavelength of the ultrasonic wave. This fact results from the resonance of the sound wave and the theoretical analysis of that is also accomplished and verified by experiment. It is observed that the magnitude of the acoustic streaming dependent upon the gap between the ultrasonic vibrator and stationary plate possibly changes due to the measurement of the average velocity fields of the acoustic streaming induced by the ultrasonic vibration at resonance and non-resonance. There exists extremely small average velocity at non-resonant gaps while the relatively large average velocity exists at resonant gaps compared with non-resonant gaps. It also reveals that there should be larger axial turbulent intensity at the hub region of the vibrator and at the edge of it in the resonant gap where the air streaming velocity is maximized and the flow phenomena is conspicuous than that at the other region. Because the variation of the acoustic streaming velocity at resonant gap is more distinctive than that at non-resonant gap, shear stress increases more in the resonant gap and is also maximized at the center region of the vibrator except the local position of center (r〓0). At the non-resonant gap there should be low values of vorticity distribution, but in contrast to the non-resonant gap, high and negative values of it exist at the center region of the vibrator with respect to the radial direction and in the vicinity of the middle region with respect to the axial direction. Acoustic streaming is noise-free due to the ultrasonic vibration and maintenance-free because of the absence of moving parts. Moreover, the proposed method by acoustic streaming can be utilized to the nano and micro-electro mechanical systems as a driving mechanism in addition to the augmentation of the streaming velocity.

  • This study was conducted to determine the effect of repeated ultrasound-guided transvaginal retrieval of oocytes recovery, estrous cycle and ovarian adhesion in Korean native, Hanwoo heifers. Heifers were at unknown stages of the estrous cycle at the start of experiments in which all follicles $\geq$6mm in diameter were ablated. The results obtained in this study were as follows; Follicle developing number and oocytes collected number were no effected to repeated OPU to nine session, 4 e.a range oocytes collected to repeated OPU session. Oocytes were observated follicles were 8.7$\pm$4.2 e.a, collected oocytes were 4.1$\pm$3.4 e.a to two times collected per week and observated follicles was 10.2$\pm$6.1 e.a, collected oocytes were 4.3$\pm$2.9 e.a to one times collected per week, but no difference significantly(P<0.05). Ovaries adhesive percentage to repeated OPU was eight ovaries adhisived(20%) of forty ovaries, three ovaries(7.5%) to 1~3 times oocytes collected, four ovaries(l0%) to 4~6 times, one ovaries(2.5%) to 7~9 times oocytes collected session. To repeated OPU effection, ovaries adhisive heifers were long estrous cycle(>25 day) to 7 heads(87.5%) of 8 head, non-adhesive ovaries heifers were 5 heads(41.7%) were long estrous cycle to repeated OPU 12 heads. Although, now unknown about the dynamics of follicles wave and about functional changes to repeated OPU ovaries, more question about ovaries adhesive cause remain.

  • The research and development in soundproof materials for preventing noise have attracted great attention due to their social impact. Noise insulation materials are especially important in the field of soundproofing. Since the insulation ability of most materials follows a mass rule, the heavy weight materials like concrete, lead and steel board are mainly used in the current noise insulation materials. To overcome some weak points in these materials, fiber reinforced composite materials with lightweight and other high performance characteristics are now being used. In this paper, innovative insulation sheet materials with carbon and/or glass fabrics and nano-silica hybrid PU resin are developed. The parameters related to sound performance, such as materials and fabric texture in base fabric, hybrid method of resin, size of silica particle and so on, are investigated. At the same time, the wave analysis code (PZFlex) is used to simulate some of experimental results. As a result, it is found that both bundle density and fabric texture in the base fabrics play an important role on the soundproof performance. Compared with the effect of base fabrics, the transmission loss in sheet materials increased more than 10 dB even though the thickness of the sample was only about 0.7 mm. The results show different values of transmission loss factor when the diameters of silica particles in coating materials changed. It is understood that the effect of the soundproof performance is different due to the change of hybrid method and the size of silica particles. Fillers occupying appropriate positions and with optimum size may achieve a better effect in soundproof performance. The effect of the particle content on the soundproof performance is confirmed, but there is a limit for the addition of the fillers. The optimization of silica content for the improvement of the sound insulation effect is important. It is observed that nano-particles will have better effect on the high soundproof performance. The sound insulation effect has been understood through a comparison between the experimental and analytical results. It is confirmed that the time-domain finite wave analysis (PZFlex) is effective for the prediction and design of soundproof performance materials. Both experimental and analytical results indicate that the developed materials have advantages in lightweight, flexibility, other mechanical properties and excellent soundproof performance.

  • A 12-year-old Standard Poodle presented with intermittent weakness and occasional dyspnea at the Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital of Kangwon National University. A grade of 4 out of 6 systolic murmur with an irregular tachycardic rhythm was auscultated on both sides of the chest. Systolic blood pressure was 140 mmHg. Panting was noticed in the hospital, but there was no crackle sound. Blood analysis revealed mild increases in liver panel levels (alanine aminotransferase 149 [reference interval, 19-70] U/L; and alkaline phosphatase, 185 [reference interval, 15-127] U/L) and severe increases in cardiac biomarker levels (n-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide, 4169 [reference interval, 50-900] pmol/L; and cardiac troponin I, 0.22 [reference interval, 0.03-0.12] ng/mL). On electrocardiography, irregularly irregular supraventricular tachycardic rhythm with an f-wave and no distinct p-wave was observed. Generalized cardiomegaly with an enlarged right atrium and left ventricle was confirmed on thoracic radiography. Moreover, hepatomegaly and an enlarged caudal vena cava were observed. Echocardiographic evaluation revealed a fibromuscular diaphragm in the right ventricle. Because of the obstructive lesion in the right ventricle, the right atrium and ventricle were enlarged (right atrial area index, 38.82 cm2/m2 [reference interval, 4.2-10.2 cm2/m2]; right ventricle end-diastolic area index, 14.152 cm2/m2 [reference interval, 4.9-10.92 cm2/m2]). Accordingly, the patient was diagnosed with double-chambered right ventricle (DCRV). Pimobendan, furosemide, enalapril, diltiazem, and S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) were prescribed, and all symptoms were relieved. DCRV is a right-sided congenital heart defect resembling pulmonic valve stenosis. If symptoms are not severe, medical therapy can be facilitated without surgery or the balloon dilation.

  • The motor evoked potentials (MEPs) have been advocated as a method of monitoring the integrity of spinal efferent pathways in various injury models of the central nervous system. However, there were many disputes about origin sites of MEPs generated by transcranial electrical stimulation. The purpose of present study was to investigate the effect of major extrapyramidal motor nuclei such as lateral vestibular nucleus (VN) and medullary reticular nucleus (mRTN) on any components of the MEPs in adult Sprague-Dalwey rats. MEPs were evoked by electrical stimulation of the right sensorimotor cortex through a stainless steel screw with 0.5mm in diameter, and recorded epidurally at T9 - T10 spinal cord levels by using a pair of teflon-coated stainless steel wire electrodes with 1mm exposed tip. In order to inject lidocaine and make a lesion, insulated long dental needle with noninsulated tips were placed stareotoxically in VN and mRTN. Lidocaine of $2{\sim}3\;{\mu}l$ was injected into either VN or mRTN. The normal MEPs were composed of typical four reproducible waves; P1, P2, P3, P4. The first wave (P1) was shown at a mean latency of 1.2 ms, corresponding to a conduction velocity of 67.5 m/sec. The latencies of MEPs were shortened and the amplitudes were increased as stimulus intensity was increased. The amplitudes of P1 and P2 were more decreased among 4 waves of MEPs after lidocaine microinjection into mRTN. Especially, the amplitude of P1 was decreased by 50% after lidocaine microinjection into bilateral mRTN. On the other hand, lidocaine microinjection into VN reduced the amplitudes of P3 and P4 than other MEP waves. However, the latencies of MEPs were not changed by lidocaine microinjection into either VN or mRTN. These results suggest that the vestibular and reticular nuclei contribute to partially different role in generation of MEPs elicited by transcranial electrical stimulation.

  • This research investigated the effects of diameter and material of energy frame on the impact velocity or strain rate of Strain Energy Frame Impact Machine (SEFIM). The impact speed of SEFIM have been clearly affected by changing the diameter and material of the energy frame. The reduced diameter of the energy frame clearly increased the impact velocity owing to the higher strain at the moment of coupler breakage. And, titanium alloy energy frame produced the fastest speed of impact among three materials including steel, aluminum and titanium alloys because titanium alloy has faster wave velocity than steel. But, aluminium energy frame was broken during impact tests. In addition, the tensile stress versus strain response of high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites at higher and wider strain rates between 10 and 72 /sec was successfully obtained by using four different energy frames.

  • We have studied to obtain the frequency characteristics of the Surface Acoustic Wave(SAW) bandpass filter, having low shape factor, it's interdigital transducer(IDT) was formed on the 35° Y-cut X-propagation Quartz substrate and was evaporated by Aluminium. And then, we performed computer-simulation by a simulator. And, we can design that the apodization weighted type IDT as an input transducer of the filter and the withdrawal weighted type IDT as an output transducer of the filter from the results of our computer-simulation. Also, we have employed that the number of pairs of the input and output IDT are 2200 pairs and 1000pairs, respectively and used the Kaiser-Bessel window function in order to minimize the effect of ripple. And, while the width and the space of IDT's finger are 6㎛ m and 5.75㎛, respectively and we could obtain the resonable results when the IDT thickness was 6000Å in consideration of the ratio of SAW's wavelength, and IDT aperture is 2mm. Frequency response of the fabricated SAW bandpass filter has the property that the center frequency is about 70MHz, shape factor is less than 1.3, bandwidth at the 1.5dB is probably 1.3MHz, out-band attenuation is almost -45dB, insertion loss is 19dB and ripple in the width of bandpass is 1dB approximately. Therefore, these frequency characteristics of the fabricated SAW bandpass filter are agreed well with the designed values.

  • In this paper, a dual-band microstrip-fed monopole antenna with a DGS(defected ground structure) for WLAN(wireless local area network) applications is presented. The antenna consists of a monopole and a defected ground, which were etched on both sides of the FR-4 substrate. The defected ground structure was used to obtain the dual band, while the step-by-step reduction in the monopole width was used to improve the impedance matching of the antenna. The antenna has an overall compact size of $44{\times}51{\times}1.6mm^3$, which was optimized by varying the size of the monopole and the ground plane such that it may resonate at the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands of the WLAN. The measurement results showed that the antenna operates in the frequency band of 210 MHz(2.29~2.50 GHz) and 900 MHz(5.05~5.95 GHz) for a VSWR under 2, and showed omnidirectional radiation pattern at all desired frequencies.

  • The purpose of this study is to assess the quantitative effect of stream discharge due to land use changes. The upstream watershed of Pyeongtaek gauging station of Anseong-cheon ($592.6\;km^2$) was adopted. To accomplish the purpose, firstly, trace land use changes for the selected watershed which have some changes of land use by using Landsat images of 1986 and 1999 of the watershed and secondly, analyse the quantitative effect of stream discharge due to land use changes by applying GIS- based distributed hydrologic model KIMSTORM. The model was calibrated and verified at 2 locations (Pyeongtaek and Gongdo) by comparing observed with simulated discharge results for 7 storm events from 1998 to 2003. Model output was designed to provide information of land use impact on runoff components in the watershed and the sensitivity of impact level of each land use category on storm runoff. Land use impact was evaluated with the land use data sets for 1986 and 1999 for the same rainfall condition (160.5 mm). Area decrease of 4.8 percent of forest and 4.0 percent of paddy field during 13 years (1986 - 1999) within the watershed caused a 30.3 percent increase of peak runoff and a 9.3 percent increase of runoff volume.
