  • This study was carried out to survey operation system of self-making TMR and particle size of self-making and commercial TMR, then to compare TMR particle size recommended by Penn State Particle Size Separator. Daily mixing time in self-making TMR averaged 48.6${\pm}$28.0min., 2 augar type of mixer was most by 55.5% and daily 2 times of mixing in summer and other season was 44.4 and 22.2%, respectively. Percentage of residual feed in upper sieve(19mm diameter), middle sieve(8 to 18mm diameter) and lower pen was 21.5~25.6%, 16.0~25.8%, 52.8~61.4%, respectively, at self-making TMR mixer. Percentage of particle sizes of more than 19mm in self-making and commercial TMR was 24.9${\pm}$1.4 and 26.2${\pm}$1.7%, that of 8-10mm 22.8${\pm}$1.0 and 12.8${\pm}$1.2 and that of less than 8mm 52.3${\pm}$1.7 and 61.0${\pm}$1.5, respectively, which in particle length of 8~13mm in self-making and commercial TMR was lower by 82.6 and 100% compared to that recommended by Penn State particle separator, respectively. Especially there was not particle length of more than 19mm in commercial TMR at all. It is necessary to check the number of cows ruminating in a farm in order to estimate the particle size of TMR; it is recommended to change the TMR mixing time or the TMR formulae if the proportion of ruminating cows in a farm is less than 40 %.

  • The aim of this study was to propose a mixing proportion by adding Rubus suavissimus powder, and to determine the characteristic of the product. The spread factor and the hardness, moisture contents, and soluble solids content of the cookies significantly increased with an increase in Rubus suavissimus powder, although the pH of the dough, and L values of the cookies decreased when increasing the Rubus suavissimus powder content (p<0.001). Total phenolic contents and DPPH free radical scavenging activity of cookies significantly increased when more Rubus suavissimus powder was added. The antioxidant activity was highly correlated with the total phenolic composition of sweet tea leaf cookies(r=0.976). Additionally, the consumer acceptability scores for the 6% sweet tea leaf cookie groups ranked significantly(p<0.001) higher than those of the other groups in overall preference. In conclusion, the results of this study suggest that Rubus suavissimus powder is a good ingredient for increasing the functionality of cookies.

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of sarsaponin on methane production, ruminal fermentation, nutrient digestion and blood metabolites using three Holstein steers in a 3${\times}$3 Latin Square design. The steers were fed Sudangrass hay plus concentrate mixture at a ratio 1.5:1 twice daily, and sarsaponin (0, 0.5 and 1% of DM), which was given at 09:00 and 17:00 h daily by mixing with concentrate. Rumen samples were collected 0, 2, and 5 h after morning dosing. Ruminal pH was numerically decreased and numbers of protozoa were decreased linearly (p<0.01) by treatment. Ruminal ammonia-N was reduced (linear; p<0.05) and total VFA was increased (quadratic; p<0.05) at 2 and 5 h after sarsaponin dosing. The molar proportion of acetate was decreased (quadratic; p<0.05) and propionate was increased (linear; p<0.01) at all sampling times. Blood plasma glucose was increased and urea-N was decreased (linear; p<0.05) at 2 and 5 h after dosing. Methane was decreased by approximately 12.7% (linear; p<0.05). The apparent digestibility of DM and NDF were decreased (quadratic; p<0.05) and that of CP remained unchanged due to the sarsaponin. The numbers of cellulolytic bacteria were decreased (quadratic; p<0.05), while numbers of total viable bacteria remained unchanged due to the sarsaponin. These results show that sarsaponin can partially inhibit rumen methanogenesis in vivo and improve ruminal fermentation, which supports our previous in vitro results.

  • Fly ash has different chemical composition depending on the type and quality of flaming coal. Fly ash is classified according to carbon content and particle size. Waste glass powder is manufactured by crushing glass. Exterior Insulation Finish System (EIFS) is generally applied by using poly-styrene foam which is economical and has excellent thermal insulation performance. However, poly-styrene foam has excellent insulation performance, but it is vulnerable to fire, which is becoming a serious problem. In this study, using a fly ash and waste glass powder to produce a finishing mortar at high temperatures. Also, High temperature strength and flame retardant properties were tested according to the cover thickness. From the test result, finishing mortar prepared using fly ash and waste glass powder is due to the improved heat resistance by alkali-activated bonding. However, since the strength decreases at high temperatures, it is necessary to select an appropriate mixing proportion.

  • This study attempts to find optimum mixing proportion of rice dasik with yam powder by adding rice powder in different quantity and using honey and oligosaccharide as a sweetener. The results of the mechanical test and the sensory test on rice dasik are as follows. Moisture content of honey added one had less moisture than oligosaccharide added one did while having more sugar content than that. In color, honey added one showed the higher L-value and a-value than those of oligosaccharide added one, but it had the lower b-value. In hardness, chewiness, gumminess, and cohesiveness, oligosaccharide added one was higher. As a result of the preference test, the group which was added with 20% of yam powder was the highest. Based on the results above, adding yam powder makes the preference of rice dasik high, and the one added with 20% of yam powder is the best for rice dasik when using honey and oligosaccharide. This study used honey and oligosaccharide as a sweetening ingredient to make rice dasik, but it is necessary to research dasik with various sweetners and their different ratios.

  • In this study, emulsion type hydrophobic admixture was prepared by mixing polyvinyl alcohol surfactant, polymethyl hydro-siloxane and meta kaolin, and the compressive strength and mechanical properties such as permeability and contact angle test of the mortar were evaluated. The developed hydrophobic admixture showed no decrease in strength and the mortar specimen with magnesium oxide developed the early strength. In the case of permeability, total seepage was significantly decreased when the hydrophobic admixture was directly mixed with the mortar, but the effect of meta kaolin contained in hydrophobic admixture was not significant. The surface of specimens coated with hydrophobic admixture shows that the contact angle on the surface was highly increased compared with reference mortar specimen. Further researches to obtain the optimum mix proportion of the PVA fiber, nano-silica and meta kaolin for producing the super-hydrophobic surface are required.

  • This study investigated the material properties of UV-curable Resin in order to identify stable materials for use in the restoration of glass cultural properties. Tested samples were based on acrylic UV-curable Resin (SECURE CP-7321®), to which urethane UV-curable Resin (FLGPCL04 Clear®) was added in 10% increments to produce eleven samples. The results showed that all eleven samples had similar properties in terms of refractive index, density, adhesive strength, and anti-yellowing. But the surface hardness and compressive strength were optimal and effective for maintaining the shape of artifacts after restoration treatment when the proportion of urethane resin was in the range of 10-20%. Based on these findings, the mixing sample [acrylic UV-curable Resin(9) : urethane UV-curable Resin(1)] was applied in the conservation treatment of a glass cultural propertie (Hwangbuk 519) excavated from the North Mound of Hwangnamdaechong, Tomb in Gyeongju.

  • Carbon cycling and productivity within Weno Island of Micronesia enclosed by the coral reef may be likely self-maintained and insignificantly affected by the open ocean. Therefore, it is important to understand the role of the mangrove known as providing the organic matter and habitats for many organisms in this enclosed area. In order to trace the nutritional source of fauna (mostly invertebrates) in the mangrove forest of Weno island, we analyzed the fatty acid (FA) and carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes of potential nutritional sources (mangrove leaf & pneumatophore, seagrass leaf & root, surface sediment, and particulate organic matter (POM) in water) and consumers (4 gastropods and anomura). The mangrove and seagrass contained the abundance of 18:2${\omega}$6, and 18:3${\omega}$3, whereas FAs associated with phytoplankton and bacteria were accounted for a high proportion in the surface sediment and POM. FA composition of consumers was found to be similar to those of the surface sediment, mangrove, and seagrass. These were also confirmed through the mixing model of stable isotope for contribution of nutritional sources to consumers. Overall results with the feeding types of investigated mangrove fauna indicate that investigated mangrove fauna obtained their nutrition from the various sources, i.e. the mangrove for Littorina cf. scabra, the microalgae for Strombus sp., and omnivorous Pagurus sp. and Terebralia cf. palustris. However, it is obvious that the nutrition of most species living in the mangrove ecosystem is highly dependent on the mangrove, either directly or indirectly. More detail food-web structure and function of the mangrove ecosystem would be established with the analysis of additional fauna and flora.

  • Resins were synthesized by mixing 1-aza-15-crown-5 macrocyclic ligand attached to styrene (a hazardous material) divinylbenzene (DVB) copolymer with crosslink of 1%, 2%, 5% and 20% by a substitution reaction. The characteristic of these resins was confirmed by the content of chlorine, element analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), surface area (BET), and IR-spectroscopy. The effects of pH, time, dielectric constant of solvents and crosslink on adsorption of metal ions by the synthetic resin adsorbent were investigated. The metal ion was showed a fast adsorption on the resins above pH 3. The optimum equilibrium time for adsorption of metallic ions was about two hours. The adsorption selectivity determined in ethanol was in increasing order of uranium ($UO_2^{2+}$) > manganese ($Mn^{2+}$) > praseodymium ($Pr^{3+}$). The adsorption was in the order of 1%, 2%, 5%, and 20% crosslink resin and adsorption of resin decreased in proportion to the order of dielectric constant of solvents.

  • PURPOSES : The pole electrode method damaged the concrete pavement on inserting the electrode into the pavement surface. This study examined the feasibility of the flat electrode method to observe the concrete pavement instead of the pole electrode method and analyzed the resistivity characteristics of the concrete by performing laboratory tests. METHODS : The resistivity of the concrete specimens manufactured with three different mixing ratios (38.50%, 39.50%, and 40.50%) were measured using the pole and flat electrode methods according to the concrete age (7 and 28 days) and electrode spacing (20 mm, 30 mm, and 40 mm). RESULTS :In both pole and flat electrode methods, the resistivity increased with increasing fine aggregate proportion regardless of the concrete age. The resistivity measured at a concrete age of 28 days was slightly larger than that measured at 7 days. In the case of a concrete age of 7 days, the resistivity measured by the flat electrode method was larger than that measured by the pole electrode method. The difference disappeared at 28 days. CONCLUSIONS :The results suggest that the flat electrode method can replace the pole electrode method because the resistivity measured by both methods was similar. Hence, the development of a technology to apply the flat electrode method to actual concrete pavement is necessary.
