The formation of biopolymer-soil matrices mainly depends on biopolymer type and concentration, soil type, pore fluid and phase transfer to influence its strengthening efficiency. In this study, the physical and mechanical properties of sodium alginate (SA) treated kaolinite are investigated through compaction test, thread rolling teat, fall cone test and unconfined compression test with considering biopolymer concentration, curing time, initial water content, mixing method. The results show that the liquid limit slightly decreases from 69.9% to 68.3% at 0.2% SA and then gradually increases to 98.3% at 5% SA. At hydrated condition, the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) of SA treated clay at 0.5%, 1%, 2% and 3% concentrations is 2.57, 4.5, 7.1 and 5.48 times of untreated clay (15.7 kPa) at the same initial water content. In addition, the optimum biopolymer concentration, curing time, mixing method and initial water content can be regarded as 2%, 28 days, room temperature water-dry mixing (RD), 50%-55% to achieve the maximum unconfined compressive strength, which corresponds to the UCS increment of 593%, compared to the maximum UCS of untreated clay (780 kPa).

The objective of this study was to find an optimum methane yield condition in anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge with microwave pretreatment. The pretreatment process was carried out using a lab scale industrial microwave unit (2,450 MHz frequency). The digestion efficiency of pretreated sludge was evaluated by biochemical methane potential (BMP) test. Box-Behnken design and Response Surface Analysis (RSA) were applied to determine the optimal combination of sludge mixing ratio (0 to 100%), power (400 to 1600 W), holding time (0 to 10 min) and pretreatment temperature (60 to 100℃). BMP test results showed that Volatile Solid (VS) removal efficiency was up to 48% at a condition of 0% for mixing ratio, 1600 W for power, 5 min for holding time, and 80℃ for pretreatment temperature. Methane production was up to 832.3 mL/g VSremoved at a condition of 50% for mixing ratio, 1000 W for power, 5 min for holding time, and 80℃ for pretreatment temperature. The results of the variance analysis (ANOVA) showed that the p-value of the power and pretreatment temperature among the independent variables were significant (p<0.05), and in particular, the pretreatment temperature significantly affected on the solubilization and methane production. The optimum condition for the maximum methane yield (847 mL/g VSremoved) was consist of 38.4% of mixing ratio, 909.1 W of power, 4.1 min of holding time, and 80℃ of temperature within the design boundaries.
Experiments were carried out in an atmopheric pressure, lab-scale gas turbine combustor to see the effect of partial premixing on unstable flame structure and $NO_X$ emission characteristics. The swirl angle is 45 deg., fuel-air mixing degrees were varied 0, 50, and 100% respectively at equivalence ration ranging from 0.53 to 0.79. The evaluation of phased-locked OH chemiluminescence images were acquired with an ICCD. $NO_X$ emission characteristics were also investigated at each experimental condition. The effect of the fuel-air mixing degree on the flame structure was obtained from phase-locked $OH^*$ images. And it was obtained from local heat release characteristics that the information about the region which the combustion instability was amplified or damped. It also could be confirmed that ${\sigma}$ has greatly influence on $NO_X $emission characteristics at lean regimes. It would be expected that it could provide invaluable data for understanding the mechanism of combustion instability

Generally, load conditions of machine or structure in fatigue destruction is occurred not under single load conditions but under mixed load conditions. However, the experiment under mixing mode is insufficient because of no having test standard to the behavior of crack under mixing mode and variety of test methods, and many tests are required. In this paper measured crack direction path by created figure capture system when a experiment. Also, we studied by comparison the behavior of crack giving the change of stress ratio and inserting beach mark. Through the test under mixing mode, advancing path of crack is indicated that advancing inclined angle ${\Theta}$ (direction of specimen length) has increased depending on the increase of mixed mode impaction. It is indicated that according to the increase of mixed mode loading condition impaction under mixing mode, advancing speed of crack gets slow. Also, we found that inner crack(cross section of specimen) is progressed more rapidly than outer crack based on data through beach mark.
The composting practice has been recognized as the most popular way of controlling food waste and many attempt have been made in the field to establish more efficient and economical process. Some of the efforts are mixing cured compost with sawdust as alternative bulking agent, seeding commercially produced microorganism and/or combination of above. However, verification of such efforts is often restricted because of either the lack of engineering consideration on the limitation of composting facility scales. In this study, the effect of mixing materials in food waste composting was investigated by controlling the combination and the mixing ratio of them. When the cured compost was mixed with saw dust. the decomposition of organic material was proven to be more active by observing the compost temperature, the oxygen (O$_2$) consumption, and the cumulative carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) profile. However, the quantity of compost mix-ing seemed not to influence the reaction as long as the minimum required amount was mixed. The feeding of com-mercially produced microorganism had a tendency to prolong the thermophilic stage, which helped to increase the decomposition but it resulted in composting period. Regardless of the composting condition, bacteria and actinomycetes increased in population as the reaction approached to the end. The population of bacteria and actinomycetes were rel-atively higher than those of fungi and yeast throughout the reaction.
In order to how well predict ISCST3(lndustrial Source Complex Short Term version 3) model dispersion of air pollutant at point source, sensitivity was analysed necessary parameters change. ISCST3 model is Gaussian plume model. Model calculation was performed with change of the wind speed, atmospheric stability and mixing height while the wind direction and ambient temperature are fixed. Fixed factors are wind direction as the south wind(l80") and temperature as 298 K(25 "C). Model's sensitivity is analyzed as wind speed, atmospheric stability and mixing height change. Data of stack are input by inner diameter of 2m, stack height of 30m, emission temperature of 40 "C, outlet velocity of 10m/s. On the whole, main factor which affects in atmospheric dispersion is wind speed and atmospheric stability at ISCST3 model. However it is effect of atmospheric stability rather than effect of distance downwind. Factor that exert big influence in determining point of maximum concentration is wind speed. Meanwhile, influence of mixing height is a little or almost not.

As the demands of environment protection increase, the pulp mold container is developed to substitute for the plastic cushion materials like EPS(expanded poly styrene). The water-absorbing ratio, tensile strength and compressive strength of pulp mold are important factors to evaluate its shock absorbing characteristics. The study was performed to investigate the effects of the mechanical property changes on the various conditions of temperature and relative humidity for pulp mold containers made of mixed materials on ONP(old newspaper) and OCC(old corrugated container). This study also is evaluated the optimized mixing ratio of materials for making pulp mold by analyzing the changes of physical properties according to a various procured temperature and relative humidity conditions. The results show that the water absorption ratio of sample increased significantly, and tensile strength decreased $20{\sim}30%$, compressive strength decreased $10{\sim}20%$ by increasing relative humidity condition. And the results show that the ONP 50% and OCC 50% was optimized mixing ratio according to the samples.
Photosynthetic carbon fixation regulates air-sea $CO_2$ fluxes in the waters of coral reefs. However, little has been documented on the effects of solar UV radiation (UVR, 280-400 nm) upon photosynthetic behaviors of phytoplankton dwelling in these ecosystems. In order to evaluate the aforesaid, surface dwelling tropical coral reef phytoplankton assemblages collected from the South China Sea were exposed to solar radiation (i.e., photosynthetically active radiation [PAR] + UV radiation A [UVA] + UV radiation B [UVB], 280-700 nm; PAR + UVA, 320-700 nm; and PAR, 400-700 nm) under static or simulated-mixing conditions. Under the static condition, UVA and UVB significantly reduced the carbon fixation with the maximum of 22.4 and 15.3%, respectively; while lower UVR-related photosynthetic inhibition was observed in case of phytoplankton samples being subjected to mixing. At a moderate level of mixing (i.e., circulation time 80 min), the UVA and UVB caused inhibition were lowered by 52.1 and 79.6%, respectively. Based on this it could be stated that vertical mixing induced by winds and/or tides in the natural environments could reduce the inhibitory effect of solar UVR on phytoplankton productivity in the coral reefs water.
The CHF in PWR rod bundles is usually predicted by the local flow correlation approach based on subchannel analysis while difficulty exists due to the existence of spacer grids especially with mixing vanes. In order to evaluate the effect of spacer grids on CHF, the experimental rod bundle data with various types of spacer grids were analyzed using the subchannel code, COBRA-IV-i. For the Plain grid data, a CHF correlation was described as a function of local flow conditions and heated length, and then the residuals of the CHF in mixing vaned grids predicted by the correlation were examined in various kinds of grids. In order to compensate for the residual, three parameters, distances between grids and from the last grids to the CHF site, and equivalent hydraulic diameter were introduced into a grid parameter function representing the remaining effect of spacer grids predicted most of the CHF data points in plaing grids within $\pm$20 percent error band. Good agreement with the CHF data was also shown when the grid parameter function for mixing vaned grids of a specific design was used to compensate for the residuals of the CHF data predicted by the correlation.
A CFD benchmark calculation for a steam blowdown test was performed for 30 seconds to develop the methodology of numerical analysis for the thermal mixing between steam and subcooled water. In the CFD analysis, the grid model simulating the sparger and the IRWST pool were developed by the axisymmetric condition and then the steam condensation phenomena by a direct contact was modelled by the so-called condensation region model. Thermal mixing phenomenon in the subcooled water tank was treated as an incompressible flow, a free surface flow between the air and the water, a turbulent flow, and a buoyancy flow. The comparison of the CFD results with the test data showed a good agreement as a whole, but a small temperature difference was locally found at some locations. The commercial CFD code of CFX4.4 together with the condensation region model can simulate the thermal mixing behavior reasonably well when a sufficient number of mesh distribution and a proper numerical method are adopted.
