  • The development of automobile, vessel, rail road, and machine industry leads increase of foundry production used as their components, which cause a by-product, waste foundry sand (WFS). The amount of the WFS produced in Korea is over 900,000 ton a year, but most WFS buries itself and only 5~6% WFS is recycled as a material in construction materials. In this study, WFS is used as a fine aggregate for concrete. Five types of concretes aimed at the specified strength of 240$\pm$10 kgf/$cm^{2}$ , air contents of 4.5$\pm$1% and slump of 12$\pm$1.5cm were mixed with washed coarse seashore sand(WFS) in which salt was removed and then optimum mix proportion of concrete was determined. Moreover, basic properties such as setting time, workability, bleeding and slump loss of the fresh concrete with WFS were tested and compared with those of the concrete mixed without WFS. In .addition, both compressive strength of hardened concrete at each ages and tensile strength of it at the age of 28 days were measured and discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to research and develop solid polymer electrolyte(SPE) for Li secondary battery. This paper describes temperature dependence of conductivity, impedance spectroscopy, electrochemical properties of PVDF electrolytes as a function of a mixed ratio. Polyvinylidene(PVDF) based polymer electrolyte films were prepared by thermal gellification method of preweighed PVDF, plasticizer and Li salt. The conductivity of PVDF electrolytes was 10$\^$-3/S/cm. 25PVDFPC$\_$10/EC$\_$10/LiClO$_4$ electrolyte shows the better conductivity of the others. 25PVDFPC$\_$10/EC$\_$10/LiClO$_4$electrolyte remains stable up to 4.7V vs. Li/Li$\^$+/. Steady state current method and ac impedance used for the determination of transference numbers in PVDFD electrolyte film. The transference number of 25PVDFPC$\_$10/EC$\_$10/LiClO$_4$electrolyte is 0.58.

  • The settling rate of the dredged soil may vary with mineral composition, grain size distribution, initial con contration and salt concentration of suspension of the site. A series of settling column test was performed to investigate the settling rate characteristics of solid suspension material from dredging and reclamation. The settling rate of soil mixed with various size of particles depended on clay fraction which showed a inherent flux. A model was developed to predict the particle flux of mixed soil from the clay flux and its applicability was verified.

  • Polycaprolactone (PCL) has been fabricated into the membrane type scaffolds of 3 dimensional pore network for the tissue engineering applications by the blade method of salt (NaCl) leaching and solution casting. In this study, the experimental designs have each conditions of drying temperature, salt particle size, salt content. The modified dispensing pump connected up to homogenizing mixer system is used for mixing the $PCL/CHCl_3$ solution and NaCl particles. The membrane fabricated use by the film applicator to poured mixed solution on the glass plate. The great pore by NaCl particles and the small pore by the evaporated $CHCl_3$ in the frame wall of great pores are multiply formed in membrane scaffolds.

  • Mixed-mode hydrophobic/ionic matrices exhibit a salt-tolerant property for adsorbing target protein from high-ionic strength feedstock, which allows the application of undiluted feedstock via an expanded bed process. In the present work, a new type of mixed-mode adsorbent designed for expanded bed adsorption, Fastline $PRO^{\circledR}$, was challenged for the capture of nattokinase from the high ionic fermentation broth of Bacillus subtilis. Two important factors, pH and ion concentration, were investigated with regard to the performance of nattokinase ad-sorption. Under initial fermentation broth conditions (pH 6.6 and conductivity of 10 mS/cm) the adsorption capacity of nattokinase with Fastline PRO was high, with a maximum capacity of 5,350 U/mL adsorbent. The elution behaviors were investigated using packed bed adsorption experiments, which demonstrated that the effective desorption of nattokinase could be achieved by effecting a pH of 9.5. The biomass pulse response experiments were carried out in order to evaluate the biomass/adsorbent interactions between Bacillus subtilis cells and Fastline PRO, and to demonstrate a stable expanded bed in the feedstock containing Bacillus subtilis cells. Finally, an EBA process, utilizing mixed-mode Fastline PRO adsorbent, was optimized to capture nattokinase directly from the fermentation broth. The purification factor reached 12.3, thereby demonstrating the advantages of the mixed-mode EBA in enzyme separation.

  • It is difficult to keep the balance of supply and demand for natural aggregates in recent years, because natural resources have become to be almost exhausted. Crushed stone is already used for coarse aggregate instead of river gravel at present. Now, crushed sand or sea sand should be used for fine aggregate, because natural sand also has been exhausted with a few exceptions around Nakdong River. The sea sand has a lot of problems which are the corrosion of reinforcement bars, the investment of facility for cleansing salt and the cost increase due to the insufficiency of industrial water. Therefore, it is necessary to produce and to utilize the crushed sand very actively, but some material properties which are related to water absorption, strength and chemical durability, prevent from determining the generalized criteria because its rocks make much differences in its physical and chemical characteristics. In this paper, fundamental physical properties of crushed sand, which comes from Daegu Subway construction fields, have been investigated for the usability on basic material of concrete. The optimum replacement ratio and the strength estimation method of crushed sand replacing natural sand also have been presented here through the compressive strength test of ready-mixed concrete cylinders.

  • Oil palm frond (OPF) is a new non-conventional fibrous feed for ruminants. Evaluation on the nutritive values and digestibility of OPF was carried out using goats. In a completely randomised design, 20 local male goats were assigned to evaluate fresh and different types of processed OPF. A 60 day feeding trial was done to determine the digestible nutrient intake of fresh, ensiled and pelleted OPF and its response on live weight gain of goat. The pelleting of OPF increased (p<0.05) intake compared to fresh or ensiled OPF. The OPF based mixed pellet (50% OPF with 15% palm kernel cake, 6% rice bran, 6% soybean hull, 15% molasses, 2% fishmeal, 4% urea, 1.5% mineral mixture and 0.5% common salt) increased (p<0.05) nutrient intake, digestibility and reduced feed refusals. The mixed pellet also increased digestible dry matter intake (DDMI) and digestible organic matter intake (DOMI) at 80% and 63% level respectively than the fresh OPF. The increased digestible nutrient intake on the OPF based mixed pellet, resulted in increased live weight gain of goats. Furthermore, OPF has a good potential as a roughage source when it is used with concentrate supplement. OPF based formulated feed in a pelleted form could be used as a complete feed for intensive production of goat and other ruminants.

  • Layered mixed metal hydroxy double salts (HDS) with the formulas $(Cu_{0.75}Ni_{0.25})_2(OH)_3NO_3$ ((Cu, Ni)-HDS) and $Cu_2(OH)_3NO_3$ ((Cu, Cu)-HDS) were prepared via slow hydrolysis reactions of CuO with $Ni(NO_3)_2$ and $Cu(NO_3)_2$, respectively. The crystal structures, morphologies, bonding natures, and magnetic properties of (Cu, Ni)-HDS and (Cu, Cu)-HDS were characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID). Even though (Cu, Ni)-HDS has a similar layered structure to that of (Cu, Cu)-HDS, the bonding nature of (Cu, Ni)-HDS is slightly different from that of (Cu, Cu)-HDS. Therefore, the magnetic properties of (Cu, Ni)-HDS are significantly different from those of (Cu, Cu)-HDS. The origin of the abnormal magnetic properties of (Cu, Ni)-HDS can be explained in terms of the bonding natures of the interlayer and intralayer structures.
