The measurement of the radiation energy, trunk temperature, leaf area index (LAI), air temperature, vapor pres-sure, and precipitation has been conducted under a mixed forest at Kwangneung Arboretum during the period of 2001. Characteristics of the diurnal and seasonal variation of the radiative energy were investigated. The aerodynamic roughness length was determined as about 1.6 m and the mean albedo was about 0.1 The downward short-wave radiation was linearly correlated with the net radiation and its correlation coefficient was about 0.96. From this linear relation, the heating coefficient was calculated and its annual mean value was about 0.21 The albedo and heating coefficient was varied with season, surface characteristics, and meteorological conditions. The diurnal and seasonal variations of radiation energy were discussed in terms of the surface characteristics and meteorological conditions. In the daytime, during clear skies, net radiation was dominated by the shortwave radiation. In presence of clouds and fog, the radiation energy was diminished. At night, the net radiation was entirely dominated due to the net longwave radiation. There was no distinct diurnal variation in net radiation flux during the overcast or rainy days. The net radiation was strongest in spring and weakest in winter. The seasonal development in leaf area was also reflected in a strong seasonal pattern of the radiation energy balance. The timing, duration, and maximum leaf area and trunk temperature were found to be an important control on radiation energy budget. The trunk temperature was either equal or warmer than air temperature during most of the growing season because the canopy could absorb a substantial amount of sunlight. After autumn (after the middle of October), the trunk temperature was consistently cooler than air temperature.
In this paper, we proposed the development of a mixed sensor parts for integrated radiation exposure protection fireman's life-saving alarm that can be location-tracked and irradiated. To measure radiation exposure dose, we use the PIN-Diode radiation measurement sensor module, a semi-conductive radiation measurement sensor that can minimize size and weight. The design for removing leakage current is carried out to enhance the characteristics of the radiation measurement sensor using PIN-Diode. The IMU sensor module is used to estimate the location of the current fireman at the same time as the accident estimate by adding together the data and the values for acceleration on the three axis. Experiments were conductied by an authorized testing agency to determine the efficiency of the proposed mixed sensor parts for integrated radiation exposure protection fireman's life-saving alarms. The cumulative dose measurement range was measured in the range of 10 μSv to 10 mSv, the highest level in the world. The accuracy was measured from ±6.3% to ±9.0% (137 Cs) and normal operation was found at the international standard of ±15%. In addition, positional accuracy was measured within ±10%, resulting in a high level of results, demonstrating its effectiveness. Therefore, it is expected that more firemen will be able to provide with superior performance integrated radiation exposure protection fireman life-saving alarm.

The separation of germanium and gallium ion with metal oxide was introduced into the development of $^{68}Ge/^{68}Ga$ generator. Germanium and gallium within mixed solution were respectively separated by using a liquid-liquid extraction and a column chromatographic method. The separation of Ge within high concentrated hydrochloric and sulfuric acid was conducted by the extraction to $CCl_4$ and the back-extraction to 0.05 M HCl. An optimum condition of the extraction by $CCl_4$ was in 5~7 M HCl and efficiency was around 80%. The gallium was selectively separated by using $Al_2O_3$ among metal oxides as sorbents from the mixed solution in 0.04~0.10 M HCl condition.

The interaction of turbulent mixed convection and surface radiation in a three-dimensional channel with the heated blocks is analyzed numerically. Two blocks are maintained at high temperature and the other bottom and horizontal walls are insulated. S-4 method is employed to calculate the effect of the radiative heat transfer. The low Reynolds number k-$\varepsilon$ model proposed by Launder and Sharma is used to estimate the turbulent influence on the heat transfer enhancement. From above modeling, the effects of various channel specifications on the flow and heat transfer characteristics are investigated. The variables used for the present study are Reynolds number, block spacing, the channel height spacing for block and the emissivity. Average Nusselt numbers along the block surfaces are correlated and presented in terms of Reynolds number, emissivity and dimensionless geometric parameters. For the range of conditions in this study, average Nusselt numbers along the block surfaces are strongly influenced by the Reynolds numbers and channel height spacing for block but weakly influenced by the block spacing and the emissivity of the adiabatic walls.
In this paper, rare earth element (REE)/polyester composites were designed with lanthanum oxide, gadolinium oxide, and lutetium oxide as ray shielding agents, and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) as the base. Monte Carlo simulation was carried out using FLUKA software. We found that the radiation protection performance of the composite is affected by the type and amount of REE; a higher amount of REE equated to a better radiation protection performance of the composite. When the thickness of the composite and total thickness of the REE is constant, the number of superimposed layers inside the composite does not affect its shielding performance. Compared with a single-type REE/PET composite, a mixed-type REE/PET composite has a wider range of γ-ray absorption and better radiation protection performance. When the mass ratio of PET to REE is 2:8 and different types of REE are mixed with equal mass, several 0.2 cm-thick mixed-type REE/PET composites can shield >70% of 60 and 80 KeV γ-rays.
The traditional methods for radiation shield design always only focus on either the structure or the components of the shields rather than both of them at the same time, which largely affects the shielding performance of the facilities, so in this paper, a novel method for designing the structure and components of shields simultaneously is put forward to enhance the shielding ability. The method is developed by using the genetic algorithm (GA) and the MCNP software. In the research, six types of shielding materials with different combinations of elements such as polyethylene (PE), lead (Pb) and Boron compounds are applied to the radiation shield design, and the performance of each material is analyzed and compared. Then two typical materials are selected based on the experiment result of the six samples, which are later verified by the Compact Accelerator Neutron Source (CANS) facility. By using this method, the optimal result can be reached rapidly, and since the design progress is semi-automatic for most procedures are completed by computer, the method saves time and improves accuracy.
In the medical field, radiation provides information for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. As the use of radiation increases and the risk of exposure increases, interest in radiation protection is also rapidly increasing. Lead shielding material is mainly used, which has a risk of lead poisoning and absorption into the body. Tungsten mixed filament shielding sheets were fabricated with a size of 70 × 70 mm and a thickness of 1, 2, and 4 mm by using a 3D printer. In the general shooting experiment, the thickness of the shielding sheet is 1 ~ 5mm, the tube voltage is 60, 80, 100, 120 kVp and the tube current is 20, 40 mAs. In general photography, Tungsten showed better shielding rate compared to Brass, Copper, and Lead protective tools under all irradiation conditions, and in particular, Tungsten 5 mm showed 100% shielding rate. The 3D-printed tungsten mixed filament shielding is expected to be used as a new shield that can replace the existing lead protection tools as it shows a better shielding rate than the existing lead protection tools in Radiography.

The appropriate radiation conditions of ship motion problem with advancing speed in frequency domain are investigated from a theoretical and practical point of view. From extensive numerical experiments that have been conducted for evaluation of the relevant radiation conditions, a hybrid radiation technique is proposed in which the Sommerfeld radiation condition and the free surface damping are mixed. Based on the comparison with the results of the translating and pulsating Green function method, the optimal damping factor of the hybrid radiation technique is selected, and the observed limitations of the proposed hybrid radiation technique are discussed, along with its accuracy obtained from the numerical solutions. Comparative studies of the forward-speed seakeeping prediction methods available confirm that the results of applying the hybrid radiation technique are relatively similar to those obtained from the translating and pulsating Green function method. This confirmation is made in comparisons with the results of solely applying either the free surface damping, or the Sommerfeld radiation condition. By applying the proposed hybrid radiation technique, the wave patterns, hydrodynamic coefficients, and motion responses of the Wigley III hull are finally calculated, and compared with those of model tests. It is found that, in comparison with the model test results, the three-dimensional Rankine source method adopting the proposed hybrid radiation technique is more robust in terms of accuracy and numerical stability, as well as in obtaining the forward speed seakeeping solution.
Repeated measurements on each variables of interest often arise in bioscience or medical research. We need to account for correlations among repeated measurements to assess the correlation between two variables in the presence of replication. This paper reviews methods to estimate a correlation coefficient between two variables in repeated measurements using the variance-covariance matrix of linear mixed effect models. We analyze acoustic radiation force impulse imaging (ARFI) data to assess correlation between three shear wave velocity (SWV) measurements in liver or spleen and spleen length by ultrasonography. We present how to obtain parameter estimates for the variance-covariance matrix and correlations in mixed effects models using PROC MIXED in SAS.

This study confirmed the radioprotective effects of a mixed extracts of Hottuynia, Perilla Frutescens, and Camellia Sinnensis as natural radioprotectors on the prostate, small intestine, and liver of SD rats. It is known that Hottuynia, Perilla Frutescens, and Camellia Sinnensis have antioxidant effects on the prostate, small intestine, and liver, respectively. In this study, SD rats were irradiated with 8 Gy of gamma rays to confirm the radioprotective effects of a mixed extracts of Hottuynia, Perilla Frutescens, and Camellia Sinnensis. After radiation irradiation, histological analysis of the prostate, small intestine, and liver was performed. After radiation irradiation, histological analysis of the prostate, small intestine, and liver was performed. In the case of the prostate, the HPC+IR Group had less prostate damage and better recovery due to radiation compared to the IR Group. It was confirmed that the prostate size of the HPC+IR Group was 11.48%p and 24.54%p higher than the IR Group on 1st and 7th days. In the case of the small intestine, the HPC+IR Group had less radiation-induced small intestinal damage and recovery was better than the IR Group. The length of small intestine villus in the HPC+IR Group was confirmed to be 23.73%p and 24.27%p higher than the IR Group on the 1st and 7th days. In the case of the liver, the HPC+IR Group had less liver damage due to radiation and had better recovery than the IR Group. This was confirmed through the hepatic portal vein and surrounding cells. The results of this study are considered to be used as basic data for research on natural radiation protection using mixed extracts.
