  • Instead of extracting every selected harmonic component, the current reference of selective active power filter (APF) can be also obtained by filtering out the fundamental component from distorted load current for computation efficiency. This type of mixed current reference contains kinds of harmonic components and easily involves noises. In this condition, selective harmonic compensation must be realized by the current controller. With regard that selectivity is the most significant feature of controller, this paper presents specific comparison analysis between two types of resonant controllers: proportional-resonant (PR) controller and vector-resonant (VR) controller. The comparison analysis covers the relations, performances, and stability of both controllers. Analysis results conclude that the poorer selectivity of the PR controller could be relatively improved, but limitations from system stability make the improvement hardly realized. By contrast, the VR controller exhibits excellent selectivity and is more suitable for selective APF with mixed current reference. Experimental results from laboratory prototype validate the reasonability of analysis. And the features of each resonant controller are concluded.

  • Electric arc furnaces (EAFs) has a process to cause the degradation of the electric power quality such as voltage flicker. In order to adequately understand and analyze the effects on the power system from these loads, obtaining an accurate representation of the characteristics of the loads is crucial. In this paper, a mixed chaotic EAF model to represent the low frequency and high frequency variations of the arc current respectively has been proposed. The Lorenz system may contribute to the low frequency components of arc current and the logistic equation may contribute to the high frequency components, and the proposed mixed model will be a combination of both Lorenz and logistic model. The concept of chaotic parameters, such as chaotic resistance, inductance of admittance has been also proposed for the characterization of arc furnace operation and the highly nonlinear physical processes. The power quality indices are calculated from the simulated waveforms and compared with the actual power quality indices statistics in order to illustrate the model's capabilities.

  • The ZnO surge arrester is the protective device for limiting surge voltages on equipment by diverting surge current and returning the device to its original status. The occurrence of overvoltage appears in any phase to AC power supply system and it appears in mixing AC and impulse voltages, moreover because HVDC power supply system uses converter in semiconductor, it makes mixed DC and high harmonics voltages. In this study, the various mixed AC and DC voltages was made for investigating the degradation effect of ZnO arrester according to mixed voltage. As a result, the increase of DC component to mixed voltages causes the increase of resistive component of total leakage current to ZnO block. In changing V-I curve for mixed voltages, the cross-over point acts a factor as making the proper capacitor size of an equivalent circuit for ZnO block.

  • This study applied the statistically significant factors to the short-run model in the existing nonlinear long-run equilibrium relation analysis for the forecasting of maritime economy using the mixed cycle model. The most common univariate AR(1) model and out-of-sample forecasting are compared with the root mean squared forecasting error from the mixed-frequency model, and the prediction power of the mixed-frequency approach is confirmed to be better than the AR(1) model. The empirical results from the analysis suggest that the new approach of high-level mixed frequency model is a useful for forecasting marine industry. It is consistent that the inclusion of more information, such as higher frequency, in the analysis of long-run equilibrium framework is likely to improve the forecasting power of short-run models in multivariate time series analysis.

  • This paper reports on the dynamics and friction characteristics of piston skirt with consideration of mixed lubrication. Piston skirt is an important part of the engine that transforms fuel into mechanical energy. The durability and low friction characteristics are important recent issues in piston skirt design. In this paper, the piston skirt motion is analyzed with consideration of mixed lubrication and piston skirt tilting motion. The entire trajectory of piston motion is obtained by using transient numerical method. Also various parameter studies are performed for piston skirt design and the development of lower frictional engine.

  • In this study, an accurate 2-noded hybrid-mixed element for continuous fiber-reinforced laminated beams is newly proposed. The present element including the effect of shear deformation is based on Hellinger-Reissner variational principle, and introduces additional consistent node less degrees for displacement field interpolation in order to enhance the numerical performance. The micromechanical and lamination theory are employed in the finite element description to consider the effects of the laminate stacking sequences, material orthotropy, and fiber volume fraction, etc. The element stiffness matrix can be explicitly derived through the stationary condition and static condensation using Mathematica program. Several numerical examples confirm the accuracy of the present hybrid-mixed element and also show in detail the effects of the continuous fiber volume fraction, stacking sequences and boundary condition on the bending behavior of laminated beams.

  • Experiment is carried out to investigate the mixed convective flow in three-dimensional horizontal rectangular channels filled with high viscous fluid. The particle image velocimetry(PIV) with thermo-sensitive liquid crystal tracers is used for visualizing and analysis. Quantitative data of temperature and velocity are obtained by applying the color-image processing to a visualized image, and neural network is applied to the color-to-temperature calibration. In this study, the fluid used is silicon oil(Pr=909), the aspect ratio(channel width to heigh) is 4 and Reynolds number is $2{\times}10^{-2}$. From the present study, we can visualize the quantitative temperature and velocity of mixed convective flow in three-dimensional horizontal rectangular channels simultaneously.

  • A numerical simulation is carried out mixed convection in horizontal channel with a heat source from below of rectangular cavity. Finite volume method was employed for the discretization and PISO algorithm was used for calculating pressure term. The parameters governing the problem are the Reynolds number ($10^{-2}{\leq}Re{\leq}50$), the Rayleigh number ($10^3{\leq}Ra{\leq}2.06{\times}10^5$), the Prandtl number ($0.72{\leq}Pr{\leq}909$), the aspect ratio ($0.5{\leq}AR=W/H{\leq}2$) and the angle of inclination ($0^{\circ}{\theta}60^{\circ}$). Mean Nusselt number distributions were obtained and effect of Reynolds number, Rayleigh number and Prandtl number on mixed convection in the horizontal channel with rectangular cavity were investigated.

  • An important aspect of the study of power system markets involves the assessment of strategic behavior of participants for maximizing their profits. In models of imperfect competition of a deregulated electricity system, the key task is to find the Nash equilibrium. In this paper, the bimatrix approach for finding Nash equilibria in electricity markets is investigated. This approach determines pure and mixed equilibria using the complementarity pivot algorithim. The mixed equilibrium in the matrix approach has the equal number of non-zero property. This property makes it difficult to reproduce a smooth continuous distribution for the mixed equilibrium. This paper proposes an algorithm for adjusting the quantization value of discretization to reconstruct a continuous distribution from a discrete one.
