  • The "China Zun" tower in Beijing will rise to 528 meters in height and will be the tallest building in Beijing once built. Inspired by an ancient Chinese vessel, the "Zun", the plan dimensions reduce gradually from the bottom of the tower to the waist and then expand again as it rises to form an aesthetically beautiful and unique geometry. To satisfy the structural requirement for seismic and wind resistance, the structure is a dual system composed of a perimeter mega structure made of composite mega columns, mega braces, and belt trusses, and a reinforced-concrete core with steel plate-embedded walls. Advanced parametric design technology is applied to find the most efficient outer-perimeter structure system. The seismic design basically follows a mixed empirical and performance-based methodology that was verified by a shaking table test and other specimen lab tests. The tower is now half-way through its construction.

  • This study is for getting sacrificial service, discussing process of sacrificial rituals and understanding the composition of space in Dong-gok Jaesa. For these things, we're arranged for exact blueprint through actual survey and analyzed the architectural features. Dong-gok Jaesa has features which show centripetal space organization with strong closing sparsely. This is intended for sincerity during ritual which is processed without obstruction. This is a mixed form which is unified both straight dwelling and Jung Dang Hyeop Sil type. And this is for all functions which is necessary for Jaesa architecture in only one building. And this is used with organizing technique for space utility with connection of compartments and various enlargement and partition. Through these things, even though it is not a big Jaesa, it shows that this is Korea traditional composition of space technique according to several purposes.

  • In this study, recycled aggregate and natural aggregate were mixed in advance using an aggregate mixing facility that was developed to improve the quality of recycled aggregate concrete. Then the mixed aggregate was applied and concrete characteristics before and after a mix were considered. Based on the findings extracted, this study aimed to suggest a new direction for quality stabilization and application activation of recycled aggregate. The test results of change rates of mortars and coarse aggregates in fresh concrete mixed by a concrete mixer, before and after mixing aggregates showed that the variations of the mortars and coarse aggregates in the concrete mixed with the aggregates beforehand were decreased than those in the concrete before mixing them. The variation of compressive strength and the mean compressive strength at the ages of 3 and 7 days showed similar results before and after the aggregates were mixed, and the strength at the age of 28 days before and after mixing them showed larger deviation than that at the ages of 3 and 7 days. The use of the mixed aggregates after mixing aggregates beforehand reduced the variation in strength and is believed that it is advantageous for long-age strength development. The above results show that the variations of coarse aggregates and compressive strength in the concrete using the mixed aggregates produced by mixing recycled aggregates and natural aggregates beforehand are reduced so it will be possible to produce the homogeneous concrete by mixing aggregates beforehand.

  • This study sets the research goal of reducing energy consumption which 'H' University Industry-University Cooperation Foundation and resident companies are concerned with, as well as conducting policy research and data analysis. We tried to present a solution to the problem using the technique. The algorithm showing the greatest reliability in the power of the model for the analysis algorithm of this paper was selected, and the power consumption trend curves per minute and hour were confirmed through predictive analysis while applying the algorithm, as well as confirming the singularity of excessive energy consumption. Through an additional sub-sensor analysis, the singularity of energy consumption of the unit was identified more precisely in the facility rather than in the building unit. Through this, this paper presents a system building model for real-time monitoring of campus power usage, and expands the data center and model for implementation. Furthermore, by presenting the possibility of expanding the field through research on the integration of mobile applications and IoT hardware, this study will provide school authorities and resident companies with specific solutions necessary to continuously solve data-based field problems.

  • Recently, it tend to increase the high-rise and large-scale of buildings and the developtment of construction technology can to be applied reinforced concrete structures to high-rise buildings. However, when a high-rise buildings is constructed with reinforced concrete, it has a disadvantage that buildings weight increases. In order to resolve the weight of reinforced concrete structures, various types of lightweight aggregates become development and research. Although lightweight aggregates can be reduced the weight of concrete, the strength of ITZ(Interfacial Transition Zone) is lowered due to its less strength than natural aggregates. In this study, an experimental study was conducted to coat the surface of lightweight aggregates with GGBFS(ground granulated blast furnace slag) to improve the strength of cement matrix mixed with lightweight aggregates. Result of this experimental study shows that the compressive strnegth of the surface coating lightweight aggregates was higher than general lightweight aggregates. Also, it was considered that this is because the pore at the ITZ of the surface-coated lightweight aggregates mixed cement matrix are filled with GGBFS fine particle.

  • Cement industry is typical carbon-emission industry. If the industrial by-products(granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS), fly ash, etc.) are used a large amount, it might be able to reduce cement consumption and mitigate carbon emissions. In this case, however, decrease of early strength is relatively large. Therefore, there is a limitation in increase of the amount of substitute. Considering these circumstances, it would be a good solution to reduce carbon emissions in cement industry to improve the performances of mixed cement through proper alkali-activation in Portland blended cement using GGBFS or fly ash. Therefore, this study prepared concrete in ready-mixed concrete manufacturing facilities with an addition of a binder which used 2.0% modified alkali sulfate activator after mixing Portland cement, GGBFS and fly ash in the ratio of 4:4:2 and assessed its basic properties. The results found the followings: The use of modified alkali-sulfate activator slightly reduced slump and shortened setting time. As a result, bleeding capacity decreased while early strength improved. In addition, there is no big difference in carbonation resistance. It appears that there should be continued experiments and analyses on the related long-term aged specimens.

  • A pick cutter is a rock-cutting tool used in partial-face excavation machines such as roadheaders, and its quality is a key element influencing the excavation performance and efficiency of such machines. In this study, pick cutters with hardfacing deposits applied to a tungsten carbide insert were made with aim of increasing their durability and wear resistance. They were field-tested by being installed in a roadheader and compared with conventional pick cutters under the same excavation conditions for 24 hours. The hardfaced pick cutters showed much smaller weight loss after excavation, and therefore better excavation performance, than the conventional pick cutters. In particular, the damage to and detachment (loss) of tungsten carbide inserts was minimal in the hardfaced pick cutters. A detailed inspection using scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry and three-dimensional X-ray computed tomography scanning revealed no macro- or micro-cracks in the pick cutters. The reason for the absence of cracks may be that the heads of pick cutters are mechanically worn after the tungsten carbide inserts have been worn and damaged. However, scanning revealed the presence of voids between tungsten carbide inserts and pick cutter heads. This discovery of voids indicates the need to improve production processes in order to guarantee a higher quality of pick cutters.

  • The purpose of this study was predicted the effects of mixing and diffusion due to the operation of the apparatus before the development of the mixed diffusion device for the decontamination absorbent to minimize the influence of contaminant inflow due to radiation accident. The tracer used for the flow characteristics was $^{68}Ga$, $^{99m}Tc$, which is a radioactive isotope, and 2 inch NaI radiation detector was used to detect it. The impeller of the decontamination mixed diffusion system applied to this study was made into three types and the mixing diffusion effect was compared. As a result of analyzing the flow characteristics of the radio-isotope with decontamination mixed diffusion device, mixing, diffusion and flow pattern were obtained. The radial mixing type impeller was able to diffuse to the water surface by the upflow flow, and the fin structure was adjusted for finding optimal conditions. The model 3 type consists of a fin guiding part and an auxiliary fin so that the diffusion speed is higher than that of other types of impellers. It also showed a short time to reach complete mixing.

  • Seismic design codes permit the use of Equivalent Static Analysis of buildings considering torsional eccentricity e with dynamic amplification factors on structural eccentricity and some accidental eccentricity. Estimation of e in buildings is not addressed in codes. This paper presents a simple approximate method to estimate e in RC Moment Frame and RC Structural Wall buildings, which required no detailed structural analysis. The method is validated by 3D analysis (using commercial structural analysis software) of a spectrum of building. Results show that dynamic amplification factor should be applied on torsional eccentricity when performing Response Spectrum Analysis also. Also, irregular or mixed modes of oscillation arise in torsionally unsymmetrical buildings owing to poor geometric distribution of mass and stiffness in plan, which is captured by the mass participation ratio. These irregular modes can be avoided in buildings of any plan geometry by limiting the two critical parameters (normalised torsional eccentricity e/B and Natural Period Ratio 𝜏 =T𝜃/T, where B is building lateral dimension, T𝜃 uncoupled torsional natural period and T uncoupled translational natural period). Suggestions are made for new building code provisions.

  • The hipped roof on the research building, which was constructed 51.9m above sea level on a hillock by Korea National University of Education in June 1999, is composed of four inclined planes which are 12m in breadth, 8m in length and have a 30 degree gradient. For the roof vegetation, the yellow earth collected from around the building was laid on top. It was designed to supply the soil on the slope with water for a considerable period by making rainfall pool at the edges. In order to prevent the soil on the slope from being swept away, 31 sorts of grass seeds were imported from Germany and sown in the soil. At the present day, 10 years after the seeds began to sprout and inhabit the settled slope, 30 individual plant species were identified in the period between April 2008 and March 2009. Out of 31 species were seeded on the slanted, soiled roof, only 8 were still alive. It was confirmed that the Artemisia Princeps var, Chrysantheum, Prunella Vulgaris and Lespedeza Cuneata have been the major species inhabiting the east, west, south and north inclined planes respectively. The Phragmites Communis was inhabiting the edge of the roof where the water supply was adequate, while the Dianthus Barbatus was primarily inhabiting the south-east side of the roof. As a whole, 26 identifiable plants and 4 unidentified plants were observed on the inclined planes of the hipped roof. In consideration of the plant distribution on the slope, it was confirmed that the selection of seeds may have had an effect on the slope vegetation. As for the yellow earth laid on the roof, it was discovered that about 2~3cm thickness around the ridge was swept away, but the rest of the slope was in relatively good condition. Accordingly, it has been proven that vegetations can be applied to hipped roofs by using ordinary plants without any special structural measures.
