  • Urban transit construction has increased since 1970, and the utilization of urban transit system also has sharply increased. However, the prediction for station scale was underestimated in design, eventually, passenger crowdedness of station, platforms and transfer pathways has got worse. Especially, safety for passenger is concerned for rush hour because of passenger crowdedness peak. Therefore, several stations, which service level is D, were investigated for passenger crowdedness. In this study, measures which are to mitigate passenger crowdedness for stations are indicated.

  • Dam is a barrier constructed to divert, hold water and raise its level for purpose of water supply, irrigation, power generation, flood control, and recreational facilities, etc. Therefore, there are many inevitable environmental impacts on dam construction. We need some better tools to predict the impacts and mitigate measures before and after dam construction. For this purpose I discussed several feasible suggestions and provisions mainly related to environmental impact assessment.

  • We present a fair and efficient solution for selfish readers with the Nash bargaining solution (NBS) to mitigate the effects of RFID frequency interference. We compare the NBS with a solution derived by the max log-sum scheme that maximizes total utility and show that for selfish and rational readers, the NBS brings success in bargaining on resource allocation between readers unlike the max log-sum scheme, although the NBS has less total payoff compared to the max log-sum scheme.

  • An educational program for parent caregiving families has been developed with a view to help mitigate burdens of those who provide caring services for their aged parents and to meet the needs of both the caregiving middle-aged daughter-in-law and the parent. The program has been applied to a small group of people who at least one living aged parent. The effectiveness of the program has been evaluated by taking pre- and posttests. The result of the tests strongly suggest that the program has been effective in improving participatns' knowledge on aging process, confict solving and relationship with parent.

  • The growing number of web applications in the global economy has made it critically important to develop secure and reliable software to support the economy's increasing dependence on web-based systems. We propose an intercepting filter approach to mitigate the risk of injection flaw exploitation- one of the most dangerous methods of attacking web applications. The proposed approach can be implemented in Java or .NET environments following the intercepting filter design pattern. This paper provides examples to illustrate the proposed approach.

  • It is a long-standing issue to correctly determine the number of long-run relationships among time series processes. We revisit nonparametric test for cointegration rank and propose bootstrap refinements. Consistent with model-free nature of the tests, we make use of Cholesky factor bootstrap methods, which require weak conditions for data generating processes. Simulation studies show that the original Breitung's test have difficulty in obtaining the correct size due to dependence in cointegrated errors. Our proposed bootstrapped tests considerably mitigate size distortions and represent a complementary approach to other bootstrap refinements, including sieve methods.

  • The accelerated growth of the internet and the enormous amount of data availability has become the primary reason for machine learning applications for data analysis and, more specifically, pattern recognition and decision making. In this paper, we focused on the crowdfunding site Kickstarter and collected the comments in order to apply neural networks to classify the projects based on the sentiments of backers. The power of customer reviews and sentiment analysis has motivated us to apply this technique in crowdfunding to find timely indications and identify suspicious activities and mitigate the risk of money loss.

  • A custom power device provides an integrated solution to the present problems that are faced by the utilities and power distribution. In this paper, a new controller is designed which is connected to a multiconverter unified power quality conditioner (MC-UPQC) for improving the power quality issues adopted modified synchronous reference frame (MSRF) theory with Fuzzy logic control (FLC) technique. This newly designed controller is connected to a source in order to compensate voltage and current in two feeders. The expanded concept of UPQC is multi converter-UPQC; this system has a two-series voltage source inverter and one shunt voltage source inverter connected back to back. This configuration will helps mitigate any type of voltage / current fluctuations and power factor correction in power distribution network to improve power quality issues. In the proposed system the power can be conveyed from one feeder to another in order to mitigate the voltage sag, swell, interruption and transient response of the system. The control strategies of multi converter- UPQC are designed based on the modified synchronous reference frame theory with fuzzy logic controller. The fast dynamics response of dc link capacitor is achieved with the help of Fuzzy logic controller. Different types of fault conditions are taken and simulated for the analysis and the results are compared with the conventional method. The relevant simulation and compensation performance analysis of the proposed multi converter-UPQC with fuzzy logic controller is performed.

  • Through case studies of photovoltaic complex and wind farm construction and management, the causes of environmental and social conflicts were analyzed. Policies and measures to minimize conflicts and complement the institution were identified by analyzing successful construction and management case studies from both domestic and abroad. The causes of problems were haphazard damages to the regional environment, direct damages from power production facilities, lack of regional benefits from power production businesses, and loose environmental restrictions and management. The countermeasures to mitigate the problems at hand are to improve and strengthen the guidelines for power production businesses, secure residents' acceptability, strengthen regulations for business explanation, increase stakeholder's participation, find alternative sites, and ensure the speedy implementation of on-shore wind farms. Through these countermeasures, specific goals included in the New Renewable Energy Master Plan, such as target goals for photovoltaic and wind energy, preservation and protection of environment, and improvement of residents' acceptability, can be achieved.

  • This paper assessed environmental impacts of marine sand mining on coastal areas and Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs) of Korea, and diagnosed problems of the related assessment statements for suggesting key assessment items (scoping) and system improvement. To mitigate conflicts and environmental impacts caused by large-scale, concentrated sand mining, we suggest it is critical to promote sustainable and eco-friendly utilization of marine resources while listening opinions from various stakeholders and analyzing alternative plans. Especially, it should be mandatory as a scoping item to provide verifiable data on the amount of sand, potential and accumulative impacts by mining, and key assessment items (e.g. erosion and sedimentation by submarine topography, benthic change, spreading of suspended solids, water pollution, grain-size change, and impact on fisheries resources). We also suggest that postassessment and monitoring should be improved to enable tracking of environmental impacts caused by sand mining through seasonal monitoring together with intermittent short-term surveys. In addition, effective measures to mitigate the impacts is also essential. As repeated sand mining at large-scale can damage marine ecosystems by long-term accumulated impacts, we suggest that assessment systems and regulatory policies should be developed and established, especially for ensuring reliability of assessment and review on selected major sandmining projects.
