  • Anticipating a wide range of morphological variations of arterial anatomy of foregut derivatives beyond the classical pattern, a precise understanding is pertinent to preoperative diagnosis, operative procedure and to avoid potentially devastating post-operative outcome during various traumatic and non-traumatic vascular insult of foregut. The study aimed to revisit the morphological details and update unusual configurations of arteries of foregut to establish clinico-anatomical correlations. This study described the detailed branching pattern of coeliac trunk (CT) as principal artery of foregut with source & course of hepatic, gastric, duodenal and pancreatic branches in 58 cadaveric dissections. Based on morphology, different types and subtypes were made. The descriptions were explained using figures and pertinent tables. Among classical branches of CT, splenic artery was found as most stable whereas other two branches were found to be most variable with missing common hepatic artery in 11 cases. In addition to classical trifurcation (65.52%), different types of bifurcation (12.07%) and tetrafurcations (22.41%) of CT were observed. Regarding variations of hepatic arteries (27.59%), both non-classical origin and accessory hepatic branches were found. In case of gastric branches, more variant origins were seen with right gastric (50%) as compared to left gastric artery (34.48%). Other morphological variations included non-classical origin of gastro-duodenal artery (18.96%) along with presence of accessory pancreatic (17.13%) and duodenal arteries (6.38%). Awareness of anatomical variations regarding circulatory dynamics of foregut is worth knowing in order to facilitate successful planning of surgery involving upper abdominal organs with least complications.

  • Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) has been used to measure and monitor plant growth, vegetation cover, and biomass from multispectral satellite data. It is also a valuable index in forest applications, providing forest resource information. In this research, an approach for monitoring forest change using MODIS NDVI time series data is explored. NDVI difference-based approaches for a specific point in time have possible accuracy problems and are lacking in monitoring long-term forest cover change. It means that a multi-time NDVI pattern change needs to be considered. In this study, an efficient methodology to consider long-term NDVI pattern is suggested using a harmonic model. The suggested method reconstructs MODIS NDVI time series data through application of the harmonic model, which corrects missing and erroneous data. Then NDVI pattern is analyzed based on estimated values of the harmonic model. The suggested method was applied to 49 NDVI time series data from Aug. 21, 2009 to Sep. 6, 2011 and its usefulness was shown through an experiment.

  • Recently, digital doorlock systems have been employing biometric recognition and smartphone as personal authentification means. The performance of a digital doorlock system is determined by the two conflicting indices such as security and convenience. This paper proposes and implements one grip based doorpull shaped doorlock systems using fingerprint and touch sensor grip pattern. The proposed system sequentially performs fingerprint recognition and grip pattern identification when a user grips the doorpull in order to open the door. This method so called 'One Grip' is considered to enhance security while maintaining users' convenience. We expect the proposed method can solve the phone missing problem encountered in developing smart doorlock systems based on smartphones.

  • PURPOSE. Accurate information is essential in dentistry. The image information of missing teeth is used in optically based medical equipment in prosthodontic treatment. To evaluate oral scanners, the standardized model was examined from cases of image recognition errors of linear discriminant analysis (LDA), and a model that combines the variables with reference to ISO 12836:2015 was designed. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The basic model was fabricated by applying 4 factors to the tooth profile (chamfer, groove, curve, and square) and the bottom surface. Photo-type and video-type scanners were used to analyze 3D images after image capture. The scans were performed several times according to the prescribed sequence to distinguish the model from the one that did not form, and the results confirmed it to be the best. RESULTS. In the case of the initial basic model, a 3D shape could not be obtained by scanning even if several shots were taken. Subsequently, the recognition rate of the image was improved with every variable factor, and the difference depends on the tooth profile and the pattern of the floor surface. CONCLUSION. Based on the recognition error of the LDA, the recognition rate decreases when the model has a similar pattern. Therefore, to obtain the accurate 3D data, the difference of each class needs to be provided when developing a standardized model.

  • To assess the food intake and diet quality by the interrelationship of DDS and DVS of high school girls, this dietary survey was conducted with 253 subjects living in Iksan and Seoul areas using a 24-hour recall method. The average amount of total food intake was 1,133.2 g, with 79.9% of food intake being supplied by vegetable food and 20.1% by animal food and higher in Seoul area. The food consumed most frequently was rice, green onion, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, onion, and Kimchi. The food consumed in the largest amounts were rice(303.3 g), milk(62.2 g), and Kimchi(53.4 g). Diet quality was assessed by food group pattern, dietary diversity score(DDS), and dietary variety score(DVS). When investigating the consumption pattern of major five food groups(grain, meat, dairy, fruit, vegetable groups), nobody consumed all five food groups in each meal. The groups most frequently missing were fruits and dairy products. The average number of food consumed per day was 12.1(DVS) and Iksan area scored lower(11.7) on DVS than Seoul area(12.6). The higher DDS and DVS of subjects were, the more MAR and NAR of energy, calcium, vitamin A and C increased. The number of major food groups(DDS)(p<0.01, P<0.05) and that of food items (DVS)(p<0.01) correlated positively NAR(nutrient adequacy ratio) and MAR (mean adequacy ratio) significantly.

  • In order to clarify an effect of seedling weight on the growth pattern of ginseng, seedlings ranged from 0.4g plant to 1.8g plant were transplanted, and then the characters of 5- and 6-year-old ginseng were investigated. The characters of root and leaf, such as length and diameter of main root, root weight, leaf area, and leaf dry weight of 5- and 6-year-old ginseng originated from large seedlings were superior as compared with those from small seedlings, and percentage of missing plant was increased with the increase of seedling weight. There were, however, no significant difference in stem length, stem dry weight, number of seeds per plant and number of palmate leaves and leaflets per plant in 5- and 6-year-old ginseng and these characters were not affected by the weight of seedings transplanted. Root field per unit area was higher in seedings of above 0.6g/plant than in small seedlings.

  • In this paper. we propose receiver algorithms for VHF(Very High Frequency) digital link mode-2(VDL Mode-2) systems. Unlike conventional digital communication systems using the root raised cosine filter as a transmit and receive filter, raised cosine filter is used as a transmit filter in VDL Mode-2 systems. Hence, it is crucial to design and implement the optimum lowpass receive filter by considering the amount of inter-symbol interference and noise performance. On the other hand, due to the short preamble pattern, it is crucial to develop an efficient packet detection algorithm for reliable communication link. In this paper, we design the optimum receive filter and packet detection algorithm and evaluate the performance of receiver adopting the proposed receive filter and packet detection algorithm.

  • Pattern classification is one of the most important topics for machine learning research fields. However incomplete data appear frequently in real world problems and also show low learning rate in classification models. There have been many researches for handling such incomplete data, but most of the researches are focusing on training stages. In this paper, we proposed two classification methods for incomplete data using triangular shaped fuzzy membership functions. In the proposed methods, missing data in incomplete feature vectors are inferred, learned and applied to the proposed classifier using triangular shaped fuzzy membership functions. In the experiment, we verified that the proposed methods show higher classification rate than a conventional method.
