주철(鑄鐵)의 흑연(黑鉛)구상화에 미치는 Misch Metal Hydride의 첨가효과(添加效果) (Graphite Spheroidization in Cast Iron by Addition of Misch Metal Hydrides)

  • 3.9%C-2.0%Si-Fe 조성의 압분체(壓粉體)를 $1350^{\circ}$, Ar가스 분위기에서 50분간 용해한 용탕에 시판(市販) misch metal과 misch metal hydride인 MmH와 $MmH_2$를 각각 여러비율로 첨가(添加)한후 서냉(徐冷)및 급냉(急冷)한 시편의 흑연형상(黑鉛形狀)의 변화로부터 misch metal hydride의 구상화능(球狀化能)과 흑연구상화(黑鉛球狀化) 기구(機構) 로서의 기포설(氣泡說)의 타당성을 고찰한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1) Misch metal은 0.5% 이상, 그리고 misch metal hydride는 0.25% 이상 첨가한 때 구상흑연(球狀黑鉛)과 CV 흑연(黑鉛)이 나타났으며, misch metal hydride를 첨가한 때가 misch metal에 비하여 흑연립수(黑鉛粒數)가 더 많았다. 이와같이 misch metal hydride의 첨가량이 misch metal에 비하여 적었음에도 흑연립수(黑鉛粒數)가 더 많은 것을 보면 Mm으로부터 방출되는 다수(多數)의 수소기포(水素氣泡)가 구상흑연(球狀黑鉛)의 정출장소로 되는 것으로 해석되기 때문에 기포설(氣泡說)이 타당하다고 생각된다. 2) Misch metal 과 misch metal hydride의 첨가량(添加量)이 1.0%로 증가되면 두경우 모두 흑연립수(黑鉛粒數)가 감소하였다. 이는 용탕중에 개재된 수소기포(水素氣泡)의 실수율차이에 의한 잔류 수소기포수의 증가율둔화와 첨가량(添加量)의 증가에 따른 잔류 misch metal량의 상대적(相對的) 증가로 인한 다량의 잔류 misch metal이 응고과정에서 수소를 재흡수 용해하여 흑연입수를 결정하는 용탕중의 유효수소기포수(有效水素氣泡數)를 감소시켰기 때문으로 생각된다.

  • Because of a good wear resistance and a stable contact resistance, Ag-CdO is widely used as electrical contact material. But, the Cd-oxide mainly exists as a coarse particle and adversely affected to environment. As a reason, $Ag-SnO_2$ alloy has been developed. The Sn-oxide maintains stable and fine particle even at high temperature. In order to investigate the effect of Misch metal (Mm) additional that affects the formation of the oxide and the formation of fine matrix Ag, we studied the microstructures and properties of Ag-Sn-In(-Mm) material fabricated by rapid solidification process. The experimental procedure were melting using high frequency induction, melt spinning, and internal oxidation. The Mm addition makes Ag matrix more fine than no Mm addition. The reason is that the addition of Misch metal decreased a latent heat of fusion of alloy, as a result the rapid solidification effect of alloy is increased. The maximum hardness shows at 0.3 wt%Mm. after that the hardness is decreased until 0.4 wt% Mm, but still larger than no Mm addition alloy. At 0.5 wt% Mm alloy, the precipitation of Misch metal causes a decrease of hardness than no Mm addition alloy.

급속응고한 AZ91 합금의 미세조직 및 기계적 특성에 미치는 Misch metal 첨가의 영향 (The Effect of Misch Metal Addition on the Microstructure and Mechanical Property of Rapidly Solidified AZ91 Alloy)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of misch metal addition on the microstructure and mechanical property of rapidly solidified AZ91 alloy by melt spinning process. As the contents of misch metal(rare earth element:Ce,La, Nd, Pr)was increased, the microstructure of RS ribbons and extrudates became finer than those of AZ91, and RE related phases($Al_{11}RE_3$, $Al_2RE$) were formed. At room temperature, the rapidly solidified AZ91+1 wt%Mm alloy showed the highest tensile strength, 430 MPa due to precipitation strengthening of${\beta}(Mg_{17}Al_{12})$ phase and Al11RE3 phase. At the elevated temperature, the mechanical property of AZ01+3 wt%Mm alloy was higher than those of other Mg alloys. The reasons were that $Al_{11}La_3$ phase was thermally stable and suppressed the grain growth. In contrast with $Al_{11}La_3$ phase, ${\beta}$ phase was thermally unstable and could not suppress the grain growth at the elevated temperature. Therefore, Al11RE3 phase contributed to improve the thermal stability of RS AZ91 Alloy.

  • It is well known that Ag-CdO alloy for electrical contactor has been widely used in weak or middle electric current field. But it is necessary to decrease Cd contents without decrease of contactor property because Cd is harmful to human body. The present work has been carried out to investigate effects of Mm (misch metal) addition on the property of Ag-CdO alloy for electrical contactor. As the results of present works, hardness and strength was improved and arc resistance was improved, also, in spite of decrease Cd contents by the Mm addition. It was estimated that Ag-oxide particle was refined by Mm addition.

  • Misch metal (rare earth element, Ce, La, Nd, Pr) which has large influence on high-temperature stability and toughness was added to the Al-5%Ni-5%Mg alloy, and squeeze casting was used for Al-5%Ni-5%Mg-(Mm) alloys. The effect of applied pressure and misch metal additions on mechanical properties in Al-5%Ni-5%Mg alloy by direct squeeze casting has been investigated. The applied pressure were 0 MPa(gravity casting), 25, 50 and 75 MPa. Squeeze-cast Al-5%Ni-5%Mg-(Mm) alloys had better mechanical properties than those of non-pressurized cast alloys because of the increased cooling rate by the application of pressure during solidification. By the addition of misch metal in Al-5%Ni-5%Mg alloy, better combination of strength and elongation was obtained. The addition of 0.3%Mm in Al-5%Ni-5%Mg alloy improved the heat resistant property due to the formation of fine eutectic phases.

Sc과 Misch Metal을 첨가한 Al-Mg 합금의 고온 변형 거동 (High temperature deformation behavior of Sc and Misch metal added Al-Mg alloys)

  • In this work, the effect of Sc and Mm(misch metal) on the high temperature behavior of Al-Mg alloys was observed. Hardness was increased due to appearance of fine $Al_3Sc$ precipitates. The elongation of Al-Mg-Sc alloy at high temperature was higher than that of Al-Mg-Sc-Mm alloy because Al-Mg-Sc alloy has finer grain sizes than Al-Mg-Sc-Mm alloy. The strain rate sensitivity factor, "m" of Al-Mg-Sc and Al-Mg-Sc-Mm at $475^{\circ}C$ and $1{\times}10^{-2}s^{-1}$ were 0.33 and 0.46, respectively. The activation energy of Al-Mg-Sc and Al-Mg-Sc-Mm alloy for superplastic deformation was 133KJ/mol and 103KJ/mol respectively. The elongation of Al-Mg-Sc alloy at high temperature was decreased by the addition of Mm, but the strength at high temperatures and low strain rate was improved.

  • A small amount of misch metal and/or Zr was added as a dopant to 70.5wt----Cu-26wt----Zn-3.5wt----Al shape memory alloy in order to study the effect of grain refinement and heat treatments on the transformation behavior, stabilization of martensite, and shape memory ability. It was found that the addition of misch metal and Zr was very effective for reducing the grain size. The fracture mode has been changed from intergranular brittle fracture to ductile fracture with void formation and coalescence by the addition of misch metal and Zr. Aging of the ${\beta}$-phase decreases the $M_s$ temperature, but that of the martensite phase increases the $A_s$ temperature. The hysteresis of transformation temperature ${\Delta}T(A_s-M_s)$ has an increasing tendancy by grain refinement. The crystal structure of martensite was identified as monoclinic structure. As the grain size decreased, martensite stabilization more easily occured and the shape, memory ability has been reduced by the grain size refined.

  • The present work is an attempt to evaluate the relationship between dendrite arm spacing and average cooling rate in gasatomized $Al_{87.3}misch$ $metal_{8.3}Ni_{4.4}$ powder by means of the following methods. One is calculation of heat transfer coefficient and average cooling rate, which are derived from estimated particle velocity during gas-atomization. The other is measurement of secondary dendrite arm spacing, which are observed on the particle surface. Then, we make experimental equation for this relationship in case of permanent mold casting and compare it with similar equation in case of rapidly solidified powder. Both average cooling rates and solidification rates are considered to represent the variance of dendrite arm spacings in two types soidification route. Even though there is a considerable difference in each average cooling rate, the dendrite arm spacing values are similar in two cases; particle diameter, $100\;{\mu}m$, and casting width, 2.05 mm. It is because that each solidification route has similar solidification rate.
