  • This study aims to investigate whether the misalignment between syllable and word onsets due to the process of resyllabification affects Korean-English late bilinguals perceiving English continuous speech. Two word-spotting experiments were conducted. In Experiment 1, misalignment conditions (resyllabified conditions) were created by adding CVC contexts at the beginning of vowel-initial words and alignment conditions (non-resyllabified conditions) were made by putting the same CVC contexts at the beginning of consonant-initial words. The results of Experiment 1 showed that detections of targets in alignment conditions were faster and more correct than in misalignment conditions. Experiment 2 was conducted in order to avoid any possibilities that the results of Experiment 1 were due to consonant-initial words being easier to recognize than vowel-initial words. For this reason, all the experimental stimuli of Experiment 2 were vowel-initial words preceded by CVC contexts or CV contexts. Experiment 2 also showed misalignment cost when recognizing words in resyllabified conditions. These results indicate that Korean listeners are influenced by misalignment between syllable and word onsets triggered by a resyllabification process when recognizing words in English connected speech.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the syllable-word boundary misalignment cost on word segmentation in Korean continuous speech. Previous studies have demonstrated the important role of syllabification in speech segmentation. The current study investigated whether the resyllabification process affects word recognition in Korean continuous speech. In Experiment I, under the misalignment condition, participants were presented with stimuli in which a word-final consonant became the onset of the next syllable. (e.g., /k/ in belsak ingan becomes the onset of the first syllable of ingan 'human'). In the alignment condition, they heard stimuli in which a word-final vowel was also the final segment of the syllable (e.g., /eo/ in heulmeo ingan is the end of both the syllable and word). The results showed that word recognition was faster and more accurate in the alignment condition. Experiment II aimed to confirm that the results of Experiment I were attributable to the resyllabification process, by comparing only the target words from each condition. The results of Experiment II supported the findings of Experiment I. Therefore, based on the current study, we confirmed that Korean, a syllable-timed language, has a misalignment cost of resyllabification.

  • The deterministic errors of semiconductor gyros and accelerometers must be estimated and compensated to develop the low-cost IMU using them. Generally, the dominant errors of the low-cost IMU are bias and misalignment errors. Bias is sensitive to temperature. Therefore, in this paper, the effect on temperature of bias is analyzed and temperature compensation are carryed out. It is shown by experiment that the compensation is efficient.

  • The demand for 3D wafer level integration has been increasing significantly. Although many technical challenges of wafer stacking are still remaining, wafer stacking is a key technology for 3D integration due to a high volume manufacturing, smaller package size, low cost, and no need for known good die. Among several new process techniques Cu-to-Cu wafer bonding is the key process to be optimized for the high density and high performance IC manufacturing. In this study two main challenges for Cu-to-Cu wafer bonding were evaluated: misalignment and bond quality of bonded wafers. It is demonstrated that the misalignment in a bonded wafer was mainly due to a physical movement of spacer removal step and the bond quality was significantly dependent on Cu bump dishing and oxide erosion by Cu CMP.

  • This research develops a low-cost and high accuracy kinematic calibration method based on the following principles: 1) the platform locations are accurately measured by a constrained movement to inspect a calibration target; 2) the constrained movement is chosen to guarantee the parameter observability; 3) the mechanical fixture to constrain the movement and the sensor to check the constrained movement are implemented by low-cost and high-accuracy devices; 4) the calibration is easily done at an industrial environment. The kinematic parameters calibrated with respect to a single plane aren't influenced due to the misalignment of the plane. A parameter observability is successfully obtained even through one planar constraint, which guarantees that all kinematic parameters are estimated by minimizing the cost function.

  • This research develops a low-cost and high accurate kinematic calibration method for a parallel typed machining center tool. A planar table is used for a mechanical fixture restricting the platform to place at the constrained pose and a low-cost and high accurate digital indicator is employed for a device checking if the constrained movement is satisfied within the established range. The kinematic parameters calibrated with respect to a single plane aren't influenced from the misalignment of the plane. A parameter observability is successfully obtained even through one planar constraint, which guarantees that the kinematic parameters is estimated by minimizing the cost function.

  • In this paper, the real-time attitude determination based Matlab using low-cost receivers was designed and evaluated. The GNSS attitude determination system was implemented to operation in real-time by TimerCallback in MATLAB. The TTM(Transmission Time Misalignment) of U-blox receiver was confirmed through zero baseline tests and this problem was revised. The computed attitude by the high-cost NovAtel receiver was compared to the computed attitude by the low-cost U-blox receiver. As a result of this, the performance of attitude determination systems by low-cost receiver was confirmed. To determine baseline, LAMBDA and BC-LAMBDA for integer ambiguities search methods were used. To confirm suitable integer ambiguity search method in real-time attitude determination algorithm, determined baselines by two methods were compared, and it was confirmed that BC-LAMBDA is more suitable. As a result of this, the operation of real-time attitude determination system was confirmed using 3 low-cost receivers.

  • A new fiber coupling scheme using thermally over-expanded core(TOEC) fiber was proposed and demonstrated. In the coupling experiment between 1.3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ FP-LD and the proposed TOEC fiber with a tapered hemispherical microlens. superior performances such as a long working distance, a high coupling efficiency, and large misalignment tolerances were verified experimentally.

  • SMSC(Seoul Metropolitan Subway Corporation) is substantially taking the core role of mass transit system in Seoul Metropolitan area. When it was built, the design had challenged to sharp curved tracks less than 250m radius considering the protection of buildings and cultural properties as well as the connection to ground roads. Such circumstances have required a certain extent of slack in track geometry and therefore led to the construction of ballasted track with wooden sleepers. However, the dynamic force from running on sharp curved track has caused the misalignment and abnormal failure of track geometry, and it has resulted in a frequent maintenance and repair works which require a lot of cost and manpower. In this paper, we present the construction case of maintenance-free track system by using of concrete sleeper and elastic rail fastening system to ensure the safety of both passengers and trains, and to contribute the effective maintenance for track facilities of SMSC.

  • The steel wheels are widely used in the passenger cars because of their low cost of production although the aluminum wheels have many advantages in their performance and appearance. It is known that the steering wheel vibration with steel wheels is generated more often than one with aluminum wheels. Both the constant velocity driving test and the m up test are carried out in this study to analyze the causes and path of the steering wheel vibration generated from the steel wheels. And this study shows that the steering wheel vibration is affected by the fastening torque of the wheel mounting bolts between the steel wheel and the suspension disk.
