  • This paper presents a method for estimating the parameters of dynamic models for induction motor dominating loads. Using particle swarm optimization, the method finds the adequate set of parameters that best fit the sampling data from the measurement for a period of time, minimizing the error of the outputs, active and reactive power demands and satisfying the steady-state error criterion.

  • This test is performed to reduce slip/slide which are generated from VVVF inverter. when the adhesive force between wheel and rail is not ensured, slip/slide are mainly originated. In this paper, we carried out real test adopting acceleration changes to find optimized method minimizing the amount of generation of slip/slide. Through this real test, we obtained optimum result on reducing slip/slide and especially focused on decrease in slip. This method is currently applied to real train.

  • This paper presents an efficient method for real power loss minimization and for improvements in voltage profiles. This method is accomplished by optimal control of reactive power in the system. The problem is formulated as an optimization problem, suitable for solution by linear programming technique. After establishing the objective function for minimizing the system losses with the help of linearised sensitivity relationships of control variables, i. e., the transformer tap position, generator terminal voltages and switchable reactive power sources. The linear programming technique is used to determine the optimal adjustments to the above variables, simultaneously satisfying the constraints. The proposed algorithm has been tested on a sample system and the result is presented and discussed.

  • This paper discusses the minimum cutting thickness with a continuous chip in sub-micrometer order precision diamond cutting. An ultra precision cutting model is proposed, in which the tool edge radius and the friction coefficient are the principal factors determining the minimum cutting thickness. The experimental results verify the proposed model and provide various supporting evidence. In order to reduce the minimum cutting thickness a vibration cutting method is applied, and the effects are investigated through a series of experiments under the same conditions as conventional cutting method.

  • The XML is well accepted in several different Web application areas. As soon as many users and applications work concurrently on the same collection of XML documents, isolating accesses and modifications of different transactions becomes an important issue. When an XML document correctly corresponds to the rules laid out in a DTD or XML schema, it is also said to be valid. The valid XML document's validity should be guaranteed after the document is updated. The validation method mentioned above, however, results in lower degree of concurrency. For getting higher degree of concurrency and minimizing the range of the XML document validity, a new validation method based on a specific locking method is required. In this paper we propose the sequence group validation method for minimizing the range of the XML document validity. We also propose the boundary locking method for isolating accesses and modifications of different transactions while supporting the valid XML document's validity. Finally, the results of some experiments show the validation and locking methods increase the degree of transaction concurrency.

  • In this paper, the fractal image compression using the minimizing method of domain region is proposed. It is minimize to domain regions in the process of decoding. Since the conventional fractal decoding applies to IFS(iterative function system) for the total range blocks of the decoded image, its computational complexity is a vast amount. In order to improve this using the number of the referenced times to the domain blocks for the each range blocks, a classification method which divides necessary and unnecessary regions for IFS is suggested. If necessary regions for IFS are reduced, the computational complexity is reduced. The proposed method is to define the minimum domain region that a necessary region for IFS is minimized in the encoding algorithms. That is, a searched region of the domain is limited to the range regions that is similar with the domain regions. So, the domain region is more overlapped. Therefore, there is not influence on image quality or PSNR(peak signal-to-noise ratio). And it can be a fast decoding by reduce the computational complexity for IFS in fractal image decoding.

Abstract In mobile distributed systems the data on the air can be accessed by a lot of clients. This paper describes the way clients access the broadcast data in short latency in uniform wireless broadcasting environment. We define the problem of wireless data scheduling and propose a measure, named Query Distance(QD), which represents the coherence degree of data set accessed by a query. By using the measure, we give a data scheduling method that constructs the broadcast schedule by appending each query's data set in greedy way. When constructing the schedule, we use schedule expansion rules that reduce the QD's of lower-frequency queries while minimizing the QD's of the higher-frequency ones. With the use of examples we illustrate the mechanism of the proposed method and we test the performance of our method.

  • This paper presents an efficient eigensolution method for non-proportionally damped systems. The proposed method is obtained by applying the accelerated Newton-Raphson technique and the orthonormal condition of the eigenvectors to the linearized form of the quadratic eigenproblem. A step length and a selective scheme are introduced to increase the convergence of the solution. The step length can be evaluated by minimizing the norm of the residual vector using the least square method. While the singularity may occur during factorizing process in other iteration methods such as the inverse iteration method and the subspace iteration method if the shift value is close to an exact eigenvalue, the proposed method guarantees the nonsingularity by introducing the orthonormal condition of the eigenvectors, which can be proved analytically. A numerical example is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Recently, the ratio of fuel cost to the operational cost of a ship is increasing according to the increase of the international oil price. Thus, many studies are being made to reduce the cost; for example, a method for acquiring the sea state information, a method for estimating fuel consumption, a method for determining the ship's optimal route, and so on. However, these studies were not incorporated together and being independently made in different fields. In this study, by improving and incorporating such studies, a method for determining a ship economic route based on the acquisition of the sea state and estimation of fuel consumption was proposed. To evaluate the applicability of the proposed method, it was applied to an optimal routing problem of the ocean area including many islands. The result shows that the proposed method can yield the economic route minimizing fuel consumption.
