To estimate the reliability of a large and complex network with a small variance, we propose two dynamic Monte Carlo sampling methods: the sequential minimal cut set (SMCS) and the sequential minimal path set (SMPS) methods. These methods do not require all minimal cut sets or path sets to be given in advance and do not simulate all arcs at each trial, which can decrease the valiance of network reliability. Based on the proposed methods, we develop the importance sampling estimators, the total hazard (or safety) estimator and the hazard (or safety) importance sampling estimator, and compare the performance of these simulation estimators. It is found that these estimators can significantly reduce the variance of the raw simulation estimator and the usual importance sampling estimator. Especially, the SMCS algorithm is very effective in case that the failure probabilities of arcs are low. On the contrary, the SMPS algorithm is effective in case that the success Probabilities of arcs are low.
The research discusses interrelationship of structural and reliability importance measures which used in the probabilistic safety assessment. The most frequently used component importance measures, such as Birnbaum's Importance (BI), Risk Reduction (RR), Risk Reduction Worth (RRW), RA (Risk Achievement), Risk Achievement Worth (RAW), Fussel Vesely (FV) and Critically Importance (CI) can be derived from two structure importance measures that are developed based on the size and the number of Minimal Path Set (MPS) and Minimal Cut Set (MCS). In order to show an effectiveness of importance measures which is developed in this paper, the three representative functional structures, such as series-parallel, k out of n and bridge are used to compare with Birnbaum's Importance measure. In addition, the study presents the implementation examples of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) metrics and alternating renewal process models with exponential distribution to calculate the availability and unavailability of component facility for improving system performances. System state structure functions in terms of component states can be converted into the system availability (unavailability) functions by substituting the component reliabilities (unavailabilities) for the component states. The applicable examples are presented in order to help the understanding of practitioners.
This study is conducted to evaluate the explosion of tolune storage tank in the petrochemical plant by Fault Tree Analysis. The conclusions are as follows; 1) Fault Tree diagram and the required computer program for evaluation of explosion accident is developed. 2) The probability of the top event, explosion accident, is $1.5\;{\times}\;10^{-8}$ per year, so there is almost no possibility of explosion during the life cycle of tank. However, the probability of Gate 6 and Gate 7 is 8.8 per month, therefore, attention should be paid to them for accident prevention. 3) The number of minimal cut sets is 67 sets which are not calculated the probability of each set, because of the lack of computer capacity. All the minimal cut sets should be examined case by case. However, it is necessary to be paid attention to COM1, 126, 131, and COM4 in minimal cut sets, because the number of appearance is so high. 4) The number path sets is 70 sets which are not calculated the probability of each set, because of the lack of computer capacity. It is very useful to prepare safety checklist by using this minimal path sets. Also, the events which appear many times, 123, COM5, 139, 127 and 128, are very high in reliability.

An economic ship routing means to sail a ship with a goal of minimizing the fuel consumption by utilizing weather forecast information, and various such systems have been recently studied. For a successful economic ship routing system, an efficient algorithm is needed to search an optimal geographical path, and most of the previous systems were approaching to that problem through a minimal static-cost path search algorithm based on the Dijkstra algorithm. To apply that kind of search algorithm, the cost of every edge assigned with the estimated fuel consumption should be constant. However, that assumption is not practical at all considering that the actual fuel consumption is determined by the weather condition when the ship will pass the edge. To overcome such a limitation, we propose a new optimal ship routing system based on a minimal dynamic-cost path search algorithm by properly modifying the Dijkstra algorithm. In addition, we propose a method which efficiently reduces the search space by using the $A^*$ algorithm to decrease the running time. We compared our system with the shortest path-based sailing method over ten testing routes and observed that the former reduced the estimated fuel consumption than the latter by 2.36% on average and the maximum 4.82% with little difference of estimated time of arrival.
Purpose: To investigate the effects of anterior guidance (AG) change on the working (WCP) and non-working condylar paths (NWCP), and lower incisor path (LIP) using a splint with flat (FAG) or steep AG (SAG). Materials and Methods: The samples consisted of six young adult women (mean age=$23.5{\pm}3.3$ years). Inclusion criteria were skeletal Class I and normodivergent pattern, normal overbite/overjet, minimal slide from retruded cuspal position to intercuspal position, no temporomandibular disorder signs and symptoms, mutually protected occlusion, and minimal tooth wear. After the values of natural AG (NAG) were obtained as a reference for each patient, two types of splints ($15^{\circ}$ flatter and steeper than NAG) were made. After insertion of the splints with FAG or SAG, the WCP, NWCP, and LIP were recorded five times for each patient using an ultrasonic AQR (SAM, Munich, Germany) and statistical analysis was subsequently performed. Result: NAG exhibited postero-superior movement in the WCP and did not show a noticeable immediate side shift (ISS) or difference between the eccentric (EP) and returning paths (RP) in the NWCP. FAG was associated with an irregular and excessive WCP, an increase in ISS, and a difference between EP and RP in the NWCP. SAG showed minimal WCP movement and a decrease in the extent of difference between EP and RP in the NWCP. LIP showed significant differences in EP and in RP (P<0.001, all; FAG
A velocity planning method is proposed that ensures collision-free and minimal delay-time motions for two robotic manipulators and auxiliary equipments. Additional path, which makes robot start with possible largest speed, is added to the original prescribed path of one of two robots, and this running start along the additional path reduces delay time introduced to avoid collision between the robots and therefore reduces total traveling time.

This paper presents shape design, surface construction, and cutting path generation for the surface of marine ship propeller blades. A propeller blade should be designed to satisfy performance constraints that include operational speed which impacts rotations per minutes, stresses related to deliverable horst power, and the major length of the marine ship which impacts the blade size and shape characteristics. Primary decision variables that affect efficiency in the design of a marine ship propeller blade are the blade diameter and the expanded area ratio. The blade design resulting from these performance constraints typically consists of sculptured surfaces requiring four or five axis contoured machining. In this approach a standard blade geometry description consisting of blade sections with offset nominal points recorded in an offset table is used. From this table the composite Bezier surface geometry of the blade is created. The control vertices of the Hazier surface patches are determined using a chord length fitting procedure from tile offset table data. Cutter contact points and path intervals are calculated to minimize travel distance and production time while maintaining a cusp height within tolerance limits. Long path intervals typically generate short tool paths at the expense of increased however cusp height. Likewise, a minimal tool path results in a shorter production time. Cutting errors including gouging and under-cut, which are common errors in machining sculptured surfaces, are also identified for both convex and concave surfaces. Propeller blade geometry is conducive to gouging. The result is a minimal error free cutting path for machining propeller blades for marine ships.

BDD is a well-known alternative to the conventional Boolean logic method in fault tree analysis. As the size of fault tree increases, the calculation time and computer resources for BDD dramatically increase. A new failure path search and path restructure method is proposed for efficient calculation of CS and MCS from BDD. Failure path grouping and bottom-up path search is proved to be efficient in failure path search in BDD and path restructure is also proved to be used in order to reduce the number of CS comparisons for MCS extraction. With these newly proposed methods, the top event probability can be calculated using the probability by ASDMP(Approximate Sum of Disjoint MCS Products), which is shown to be equivalent to the result by the conventional MCUB(Minimal Cut Upper Bound) probability.

Global routing is to assign each net to routing regions to accomplish the required interconnections. The most popular algorithms for global routing inlcude maze routing algorithm, line-probe algorithm, shortest path based algorithm, and Steiner tree based algorithm. In this paper we propose weighted network heuristic(WNH) as a minimal Steiner tree search method in a routing graph and a genetic algorithm based on WNH for the global routing. We compare the genetic algorithm(GA) with simulated annealing(SA) by analyzing the results of each implementation.

A network consisting of a set of N nodes and a set of links is considered. The nodes are assumed to be perfect and the states of links to be binary and associated to each other. After defining a network structure function, which represents the state of network as a function of the states of links, we obtain some lower and upper bounds on the network reliability by adopting minmax principle and minimal path and cut set arguments. These bounds are given as functions of the reliabilities of links. The bridge network is considered as an example.
