  • The relationship between mind and body was reviewed from the perspecive of oriental medicine. Shin represents sout and hyung represents body. Health indicates the state in which shin and hyung are united as a whole one. On the other hand, disease means the state in which shin and hyung are spearated. And if such separation goes to extremes, death follows.

  • Purpose: Previous randomized controlled trials (RCT) found that mind-body therapy can improve the health outcomes of patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The purpose of this meta-analysis was to identify the combined effects of mind-body therapy on patients' IBS symptoms, quality of life, anxiety, and depression. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted using various databases such as PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL CENTRAL, DBpia, RISS, and KISS. The primary outcome variables were IBS symptoms and quality of life; the secondary outcome variables were anxiety and depression. Comprehensive Meta-Analysis version 3.0 was used to analyze the extracted data. The effect size was calculated using standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Results: Eleven final RCTs were used for this meta-analysis. Mind-body therapy was found to have a significant effect on the IBS patients' symptoms (SMD, -0.63; 95% CI, -0.77 to -0.48), quality of life (SMD, 1.03; 95% CI, 0.40 to 1.66), anxiety (SMD, -0.28; 95% CI, -0.47 to -0.09), and depression (SMD, -0.31; 95% CI, -0.06 to -0.12). Conclusion: This meta-analysis reveals that mind-body therapy significantly improves IBS patients' symptoms, quality of life, anxiety, and depression. The results suggest that, in the future, appropriate mind-body therapy should be applied to Koreans suffering from IBS. Moreover, the therapy's long-term effects should be assessed.

  • The methodology of the Oriental philosophy is deductive and that of the of Occidental philosophy is inductive. Therefore study on the Oriental philosophy must start from right comprehension of fundamental premise before detailed analysis. The writer studied the meaning of the cosmology which forms the basis of Sa-sang constitutional philosophy and the propriety of visceral assignment by Sa-sang constitution which forms the theoletiacal basis of Sa-sang constitutional medicine. The results are following ; 1. The cosmology of Lee jae-ma has the existent principle but don't have the side of the formative principie. 2. The cosmology of Lee jae-ma is not that searchs for the objective rule of nature but that centers around a human being by subjective understanding system. 3. The cosmology consists of four elements, that is mind(心), body(身), events(事), and nature(物). Among them mind and body means a human being, nature means the natural environment containing time and space, events means not that of nature but that of human being. 4. The mind and body as Yin-yang(陰陽) means the state which objects and self become one. 5. The mind as the Great-Absolute(太極) has the possibility of two interpretation, Firstly it means the state of the source of life which nature and human being become one, and secondly it means that the mind of a human being becomes the cosmos or the center of the cosmos. 6. In the visceral assignment by Sa-sang constitution the position of heart, the Great-Absolute in center is immanent within four viscera and the function of it is that the undifferentiated unitary organic body, after it is diffrentiated still serves as the unitary organic whole by mutual connection, adjustment, unification and supervision. 7. The Great-Absolute in center is divided into the Great-Absolute of mind and that of body. And the Great-Absolute of body consists of the heart and the system of blood vessel, that of mind means the self-consciousness(自我).

  • Despite a current fascination with East Asian iconography such as Zen Style among contemporary designers, there is a lack of genuine cross-cultural discourse that could enable us to share essential design experiences. To bring the discussion a deeper level, traditional Japanese tea-house in its design philosophy of body-mind interplay is explored. Tea-house is a superb manifestation to reveal a holistic understanding of the world. Nondualistic realization is generally associated with the dominant tendency of traditional East Asian philosophy, namely the view that the self and environment, and that the mind and the body exist in unity. The essence of tea-house is not in its poetic style or meticulous details, but in its unmistakably monistic approach of creating inseparable form, function and meaning. Tea-house bestows dignity upon restraint, imperfection, discomfort, poverty, and even humility. This concept offers a tremendous insight since it implies that the rational and effective design solution to the greatest degree is not sufficient. Perhaps the most challenging question about tea-house is: How does our experience with human-made 'design' in the broadest sense help both our body and mind attain a full harmony of being? It is the heading which this research inquires.

  • 1. Objectives This paper was tried to find out Dong-Mu's recognition systemfor Sasang Structure about "Dongyi Suse Bowon" and "Gyukchigo" 2. Methods The study was researched through comparative studying in a structural manner between "Gyukchigo" 's Affairs-Mind-Body-Objects(事心身物) and "Dongyi Suse Bowon" 's Heaven-Human-Nature-Order(天人性命). 3. Results and Conculusions "Gyukchigo" 's Affairs-Mind-Body-Objects(事心身物) should be understood as Dong-Mu's change process of thinking scheme before writing the book of "Dongyi Suse Bowon" and it is somewhat difficult to make a connected attachment in a lump between "Dongyi Suse Bowon" 's Heaven-Human-Nature-Order(天人性命) and "Gyukchigo" 's Affairs-Mind-Body-Objects(事心身物). Just "Dongyi Suse Bowon" 's Heaven-Human-Nature-Order(天人性命) can be understood as a new recognition systemto encompass" Gyukchigo" 's Affairs-Mind-Body-Objects(事心身物).

In order to do that, it was devised for a one-group pretest-posttest design and implemented a pretest, a treatment(that was a 12-session program), and a posttest. The results of the 16 middle-aged housewives were used to prove the effect of this program. The main results of this study are as follows: First, physical self-concept(t=-4.609, p<.001), mindful attention awareness(t=-2.804, p<.05) and tea life practices(t=-4.748, p<.001) of the middle-aged housewives have been improved after the implementation of Body & Mind Integration Program. Secondly, the Body & Mind Integration Program has provided the chance for the middle-aged housewives to newly recognize their physical and psychological ability so that they can appreciate their lives more happily and realized their inner strength. In the final analysis, it is the task for all of us to develop and supply the kind of program which helps the middle-aged housewives not only to keep the efforts for their healthy body & mind, but also to get rid of the negative feelings and tensions which happen from personal relationships so that they can find happiness in their lives continuously.

  • In the Oriental medicine, it was recognized that mind and body have a inseparable relationship. The goal of this study was to examine the body(肉體) and self-be1ief(自己信念) and methods of self-therapy(自己治癒) in transcendental meditation(冥想療法). We will furnish the information of the basic concepts and methods in transcendental meditation. The findings are as follows: 1. The thing that you have in mind does not stay in abstract idea but materializes and operates the body. 2. When you have disease implies that you have negative belief, thought and mind. 3. When you can observe the things happening in your body and mind- just like meditation- you can have positive changes. 4. When you change the negative beliefs into positive ones on body, you feel gratitude and the disease will be cured.

  • Generally, mind-body medicine is the field of studying neurose or diseases induced to body by psychological cause in a broad sense. It is said that, by definition, the medicine means the field of medicine with psychosomatic disease as its main object of research, and that it aims at utilizing the study of the relationship between mind and diseases to diagnoses and therapy of many physical diseases. Oriental medicine, the mind is classified into 'O-shin'(五神, five minds) and 'Chil-chung'(七情, seven mental states). O-shin are related to the five viscera each other. The liver contains the soul, the heart does the mind, the spleen does the consciousness, the lungs do the spirit and the kidneys do the will Chil-chung are seven mental states such as joy(喜), rage(怒), anxiety(憂), thinking(思), sorrow(悲), fear(恐) and horror(驚). If these Chil-chung are excessive, they induce physical diseases by hurting the five viscera as well as they cause mental problems. In oriental medicine, five mental is a concept for understanding of man's mental structure. Spirit and body is inseparable relation in oriental medicine. Function of spirit and body is regarded as one in oriental medical physiology. Spirit is the essence of a function which an organism reveal, and it is regarded in the same with life. Results: Sa-sang constitutions contain much content that can be applied to mind-body medicine. Conclusions: First, the principle of disease caused by mental and physical connections was clearly suggested, as it was considered that when emotions of joy, sorrow, and pleasure reach their peak, they cause fatal damage to the body. Second, it was encouraged to prevent diseases by giving specific examples to prevent the prejudice of the methodology of looking back when it hasn't happened yet and the feeling of anger and joy before the emotions of joy and sorrow are revealed. • 1. Objectives The purpose of study is to find Lee Je-Ma's thoughts about Great Absolute-Mind in his writings. 2. Methods the concept of Lee Je-Ma's Great Absolute-Mind versus preexisted Great Absolute-Mind is compared and analysed in this study. 3. Results and Conclusions (1) Lee Je-Ma composed his Great Absolute-Mind based on its concept of the science of divination, Confucianism and medicine. However his Great Absolute-Mind is rooted in preexisted meaning, it was disputed desides the controversy between the science of divination, Confucianism and medicine. For this reason, Lee Je-Ma's Great Absolute-Mind is such an originative concept unable to be explained with a simple substitution this concept for the preexisted one of the science of divination, Confucianism and medicine. (2) Lee Je-Ma's Great Absolute-Mind is the human being itself and it can include the humanity from human being itself. (3) There are not only physical meaning of heart but also abstract metaphysical concept of heart included in Lee Je-Ma's Great Absolute-Mind. (4) The talent for comprehending principles is organically connected with the ability to attain their will. And the talent and ability is devided into Two Modes(兩儀) like Mind & Body(心身), Perception & Action(知行) and Nature & Emotion(性情). (5) The supervision of Lee Je-Ma’s Great Absolute-Mind affects physical part of body as well as spiritual part and is not devided into two but one. (6) The source of the supervision is rooted on Lungs Spleen liver Kidney(肺脾肝腎), Sasang(四象), even though it exists in the Great Absolute-Mind. So Sasang(四象), which is Lungs Spleen Liver Kidney(肺脾肝腎), is organically related to the Great Absolute-Mind in its effect and origin.
