The researcher participated in the groups once per week and an assignment was suggested once per week. Repeated Measurement Two-way Repeated Measures ANOVA was conducted to confirm the differences according to periods and groups for the data analysis method. In order to examine the changes according to periods, t-test was conducted on the pre- and post-test. Results: The findings are as follows: First, regarding awareness of imaginations and decentering, the reading mind recording group showed a significant result in repeated measurement. Second, the reading mind recording group showed a significant decrease in the pre- and post-t-test about parenting stress. Third, all the reading mind recording group and expressive writing group showed significant results about subjective well-being. Conclusions: This study is significant in that it verified the effectiveness of reading mind recording on awareness of imaginations, decentering and parenting stress, and proved the possibility as an oriental counseling model that considers the characteristics of our culture.

  • The abstracts written in Korean presented at the Fall Meeting of the Korean Earth Science Society held at the Kangwon National University in October, 1999 were reviewed. They are dotted with foreign expressions and obscure wordings as well as difficult expressions and very long sentences. The foreign expressions are those originated from Japanese, English, and Chinese expressions and words. Several suggestions are made to increase the ability to write good abstracts and articles in Korean on the earth sciences. They include reading many books on natural sciences for general readers, writing sentences not exceeding 20 words, critical reading by professor or colleagues, and open mind to accept their criticisms. The authors should pay attention not to commit various errors shown in Table 2 in this paper.

  • Most people think that our brain and mind are separate, however, they are closely connected. With this idea, we can heal the sickness of our brain and mind. People understand their lives better through the process of 'Identification-Catharsis-Insight' by reading literatures. In addition, they can speak out from their suppressed heart and take comfort when they write. Therefore, they will enjoy the self-healing effects. In this regard, we can help the people who are suffering from their brain damages or people who have wounded heart using literatures, and heal their mind.

  • The aim of teaching writing is not to memorize a single piece of knowledge but to acquire higher thinking that could be related to other fields using learners' various reading experiences and schemata. Among several strategies or techniques to write well, it is recommended to use a mind-map technique. A mind-map software applies the mind-map technique into computer for learners to study autonomously. However, the mind-map software is not common in educational fields yet and there are only few studies on the effect of it. Therefore, this study analyzed various curricula to extract the elements of writing and developed a mind-map software program which was applied and tested. As a result, the writing program using the mind-map software was effective in promoting learners' motivation and lowering anxiety. It also improved learners' competence of writing such as understanding, analytic thinking, creativity, ability to organize, and expression.

  • Current neuroscience views the mind-body problem from the monistic perspective which claims that the human mind is the result of brain activity and that the mind shuts down when the brain does. However, a considerable number of lay people still believe in the existence of the soul and the afterlife, concepts that are hard to explain from the monistic perspective. This study examines whether lay people think that the mind of the dead is capable of exceeding the physical constraints if they believe that such mind exists. After reading one of three vignettes which describes the state of the protagonist as alive, dead, or brain dead, the participants evaluated the protagonist's general mental capacity and transcendental ability to obtain new information. The participants rated that the dead protagonist had more 'transcendental ability to obtain new information' than the alive one if they evaluated high general mental capacity to the protagonist. In addition, unlike the alive condition, in the dead and the brain dead condition, there was a correlation between the general mind capacity rating and the transcendental ability rating. The results suggest that lay people expect the mind of the alive and the dead to be different, as they believe the latter's general mind capacity connotes transcendental ability. We also found that the participants' religiosity affected their beliefs about the transcendental ability of dead person.

  • This thesis analyzes the Chapter "Hoyeonjigi(浩然之氣)" of Mencius(孟子), using text linguistics theory and reading theory of Korean. In this process the model of macro-structure #1∼5 are presented, according to Vandijk′s rules of macro-structure; Auslassen, Selektierne, Generalisieren, Konstruieren odor Integrieren. As a result, this certifies; First, macro-structure could make arbitrarily a several steps of macro-structure by types of text or purpose of analysis. Second, macro-structure applies various cognitive mechanisms of outer world as well as inner world. Third, a text with profound symbolism could be figured as a two-or threefolded symbolic structure. At the same time, macro-structure enables the clearer analysis of the content of the Chapter to verify the following; first, Hoyeinjigi itself is the best measure of developing "Imperturbable Mind(不動心)" Second, benevolence-righteousness(仁義) and wisdom(智) would be reached by cultivating Hoyeonjigi. Third, Mencius′ own view of language is well expressed in "Jieon(知言)", which is not only a condition for Imperturbable Mind, but also the Oriental view of language focused especially on listening in terms of language usage, not language analysis. This Mencius′ view of language has a thread connection with that of Oriental′s.

  • Objective One of the areas of social cognition is Theory of Mind (ToM) is defined as the capacity to interpret, infer and explain mental states underlying the behavior of others. When social cognition studies on neurodevelopmental disorders are examined, it can be seen that this skill has not been studied sufficiently in children with Specific Learning Disorder (SLD). Methods In this study, social cognition skills in children diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), SLD or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) evaluated before puberty and compared with controls. To evaluate the ToM skills, the first and second-order false belief tasks, the Hinting Task, the Faux Pas Test and the Reading the Mind in the Eyes Task were used. Results We found that children with neurodevelopmental disorders as ADHD, ASD, and SLD had ToM deficits independent of intelligence and language development. There was a significant correlation between social cognition deficits and problems experienced in many areas such as social communication and interaction, attention, behavior, and learning. Conclusion Social cognition is an important area of impairment in SLD and there is a strong relationship between clinical symptoms and impaired functionality.
