Control Scheme Using Forward Slip for a Multi-stand Hot Strip Rolling Mill

  • Forward slip is an important parameter often used in rolling-speed control models for tandem hot strip rolling mills. In a hot strip mill, on-line measurement of strip speed is inherently very difficult. Therefore, for the set-up of the finishing mill, a forward slip model is used to calculate the strip speed from roll circumferential velocity at each mill stand. Due to its complexity, most previous researches have used semi-empirical methods in determining values for the forward slip. Although these investigations may be useful in process design and control, they do not have a theoretical basis. In the present study, a better forward slip model has been developed, which provides for a better set-up and more precise control of the mill. Factors such as neutral point, friction coefficient, width spread, shape of deformation zone in the roll bite are incorporated into the model. Implementation of the new forward slip model for the control of a 7-stand hot strip tandem rolling mill shows significant improvement in roll speed set-up accuracy.

Development of Recycling Technique of Mill Reject Produce using Ttiboelectrostatic Separation (마찰하전형정전선별법을 이용한 Mill Reject 산물 재활용 기술개발)

  • This study was to develop the triboelectrostatic separation technique to recycle the coal from about 20% of mill reject products remained by grinding process in the coal thermoelectric power plant. In this study, we get a test results that can product the cleaned coal of 15% ash content and 66.23% recovery from mill reject of 47% ash content. And then, from the result of the releases analysis, we proved the excellence of treatment method, after showing the treament processing which is able to get 80% of recovery of coal from 20% of ash content demanded in the power plant.

제분공정이 쌀가루의 특성에 미치는 영향

  • 습식쌀가루는 침지 후 롤밀(Roll mill)로 분쇄 후 건조하여 휘츠밀(Fitz Mill)로 분쇄하여 제조하였으며 건식쌀가루는 Roll mill, Fitz Mill, 볼밀(Ball mill)의 입자 크기별로 만들어 쌀가루의 특성을 검토하였다. 건식쌀가루의 경우 제분공정의 횟수가 증가할수록 자기가 증가됨을 나타내었고 a값과 b값의 감소를 나타내었다. 습식은 건식에 비해 유의적으로 높은 자기를 나타내었고 건식과 마찬가지로 제분공정이 길어질수록 같은 색도 양상을 나타내었다. 각 입자크기에 따른 색도는 습식이 더높은 밝기 값을 나타내었다. 제조공정별 단계에 따른 수분흡수지수(WAI) 및 수분용해지수(WSI)의 값은 건식, 습식 모두 roll mill < Fitz mill < Ball mill 순으로 높은 값을 나타냈고, 물에 침지되어 침출액이 제거된 습식쌀가루의 WAI, WSI는 건식쌀가루보다 낮은 값을 나타내었다. 입자크기에 따른 건식쌀가루의 WAI, WSI의값은 입자가 작을수록 높은 값을 나타낸 반면 습식쌀가루의 WAS의 값은 80-100Mesh의 입자에서 가장 높은 값을 나타냈었고, 100-140Mesh이후로는 WAS의 값이 감소 한 반면 WSI의 값은 입자가 작을수록 높은 값을 나타내었다. 호화양상은 습식쌀가루가 호화엔탈피 (ΔH)의 값이 높게 나타났으며 제분방법의 횟수가 증가할수록 전분손상도가 증가됨을 나타내었다.

A Study on Geometric Definition and 5-Axis Machining of End Mill with Insert Tip (Insert Tip용 End Mill 공구의 형상정의와 5-축 가공에 관한 연구)

  • This study describes the geometric characteristics and the 5-axis machining method in order to make end mill cutter coming with insert tips. End mill geometry is consisted of flute part and insert tip part. Flute part modeled by using ruled surfaces with constant helix angle, and insert tip part modeled by rectangular planes containing tapped hole of specified direction in its center. In this study, the modeled insert tip part considered both of a radial rake angle and a axial rake angle, because they were important cutting conditions. In order to machining the virtual end mill defined from geometric characteristics, we programmed a special software to machining the end mill considered in this study. This software can generate NC-codes about following processes, end milling or ball end milling of flute part end milling of rectangular plane, centering of hole, drilling of hole, and tapping of hole. Ant sampled end mills were modeled and machined on 5-axis CNC machining center with two index tables. Since machined end mills were very agreeable to designed end mills, we saw that the method proposed in this study can be very useful for manufacturing of end mill body with insert tip.

Analysis of Particulate Characteristics in Licorice Milling with Different Grinding Methods (분쇄방법에 따른 감초 분쇄생성물의 특성 분석)

  • 본 연구에서는 분쇄방법에 따른 감초 분쇄생성물의 특성을 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. Hammer mill의 경우 d$_{80}$=750$\mu\textrm{m}$로 중간미분쇄의 입도범위를 가지며 비표면적은 0.269m/g로 분석되었고, Pin mill의 경우 d$_{80}$=600$\mu\textrm{m}$로 Hammer mill보다 입자크기는 조금 작으나 중간미분쇄영역의 입도범위를 가지며 비표면적은 0.324m$^2$/g로 분석되었고, Turbo mill은 d$_{80}$=250$\mu\textrm{m}$와 비표면적은 0.370m$^2$/g로 입자의 크기가 가장 작아 다른 분쇄기보다 분쇄능이 가장 우수한 것으로 분석되었다. 2. Hammer mill의 분쇄메커니즘은 대부분 충격, 일부 전단과 마찰에 의해 분쇄가 행해지고, Pin mill은 핀 사이에서의 전단, 충격, 마찰에 의해 분쇄된다. 즉 충격과 마찰에 의한 분쇄는 전단력에 의한 분쇄메커니즘보다 분쇄 능이나 분쇄효율이 상대적으로 낮은 것을 알 수 있었으며 주로 전단력과 충격, 반발력에 의해 분쇄가 이루어지는 Turbo mill의 분쇄능 및 분쇄 효율이 우수함을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구에 의해서 감초와 같이 섬유질을 많이 함유하고 있는 원료를 분쇄할 경우 분쇄메커니즘이 전단력인 분쇄기가 가장 적합하고, 분쇄중 소요되는 동력 면에서도 기존 분쇄기보다 우수한 Turbo mill의 분쇄조건을 확립해야 한다고 사료된다. 사료된다.

Study on the Selection of End Mill Shape to Improve Tool Life in End Mill Process of Ti-6Al-4V Alloy (Ti-6Al-4V 합금의 가공에서 공구 수명 향상을 위한 엔드밀 형상의 선정에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to find the shapes of an end-mill with low cutting temperature during the end-mill process of Ti-6Al-4V alloy. Such ${\alpha}-{\beta}$ titanium alloys are increasingly more used for their high tensile strength and high corrosion resistance. The cutting characteristics of Ti-6Al-4V alloy were studied using an analytical method validated by comparing the estimated cutting resistance with that from experiments. The end-mill shape was analyzed using an experimental method. The end-mill shape with low cutting resistance and low cutting temperature was confirmed by analyzing the signal-to-noise ratios for various conditions. Then, the factors with significance factor of 95% or more were determined in the variance analysis. Finally, an end-mill shape that can ensure a low cutting temperature was proposed.

  • This study investigated the effects of ball mill operation condition on the morphology of raw powders in the dry-type milling process using three types of ball mills traditional ball mill, stirred ball mill and planetary ball mill. Furthermore, since spherical powders offer the best combination of high hardness and high density, the optimum milling condition to produce sphere-shaped powders was studied. The applied rotation speed ranged from 200rpm (low rotation speed) to 700rpm (high rotation speed). The used ball size ranged from 1mm to 5mm. The metal powder morphology was studied using SEM, XRD and PSA. The aimed spherical powders could be obtained under the optimum experimental conditions: traditional ball mill(200rpm, 1mm ball), planetary ball mill (500rpm, 1mm ball) and also planetary ball mill (700rpm, 1 and 3 mm ball). The results show to the development of new material using spherical type copper powder/CNT composites for air-craft and automotive applications.

  • This paper has investigated physicochemical properties and conventional and environmental-friendly treatment methods of paper mill sludge to emphasize the importance and necessity of the sludge recycling. The paper mill sludge generally shows high contents of calcium and water, and is mostly discharged by landfill after incineration process rather than being recycled due to technical or economical problems. In recent years, however, several possible methods for recycling the paper mill sludge have been suggested for its sustainable process as follows; compost, raw material for the construction and paper industry, new energy source for reducing fossil fuel use and raw material of activated carbon for treating paper mill wastewater. Thus the authors suggest that practical recycling technologies of the paper mill sludge must be developed for substantiality in the paper industry through comprehending physicochemical compositions and generation status of the sludge and actively performing various related studies. Furthermore, this investigation could be used as preliminary information for the study on recycled paper development using paper mill sludge incineration ash.

The Effect of Gear Contact Stiffnesses on the Vibration of Torsional Geared Systems for a Mill Turret (복합공구대 비틀림계 진동에 대한 기어 맞물림 강성의 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This paper describes mathematical models of the torsional geared driving system for the indexing path and the mill driving path in a mill turret. The eigenvalue analysis for the models is conducted both with and without the gear contact stiffnesses. The natural frequency leads to the effect of gear contact stiffnesses on the vibration of torsional geared systems in a mill turret. It is necessary to analyze eigenvalues of the complex geared torsional system in order to prevent the unexpected vibrations.

  • A diagnosis system that provides early warnings regarding machine malfunction is very important for rolling mill so as to avoid great losses resulting from unexpected shutdown of the production line. But it is very difficult to provide early warnings in rolling mill. Because dynamics of rolling mill is non-linear. This paper shows a chaotic behaviour of vibration signal in rolling mill using embedding method. Not only phase plane and Poincare map are implemented but also FFT and histogram of vibration signal in rolling mill is presented by embedding method.
